Is there any proof of Ando being Huggersz69 other than in the original pilot? If not, then it doesn't necessarily apply.

*His nick Hugersz69 could be an idication of age. Most people put their birth year as the final digits of their user names. That would make Ando about 37 years old. -- Cuardin 04:59, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Main Character
Ando should be part of the main cast. He is in more episodes then most of the main cast including Simone, Jessica, Niki, D.L. Micah, and Mohidner.  --Jason Garrick 19:11, 28 February 2007
* I would agree, however the classificiation of main character vs supporting character is up to those in charge of the show.  They classify him as a supporting character so we need to.  As Hardvice once said, "This is pretty much the only category that isn't completely arbitrary." (Admin 19:37, 28 February 2007 (EST))
** More than anything, it's attached to (1) how much money you get per episode, and (2) where your name appears in the credits.  Personally, I'd take Ando over Micah / Niki any day, but that's how he signed his contract.  --Orne 19:48, 28 February 2007 (EST)

Power
I know that it is VERY unlikely, but it would be cool if Ando turned up to have a power of some kind. It would just make me feel better for the guy who followed Hiro around and watched him use his powers while Ando did nothing... That said, what should his power be?  Dean Harper 22:37, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
* I kinda think it makes the character even stronger that he doesn't have a power. I mean, he survived an attack by Sylar, made it through a very dark future, and dodged Hope's bullet, and even survived some blatant Nissan product placement. :) Check what James Kyson Lee has to say about being a mortal on Heroes in this interview. (He also answers your question about what his power should be.) -- 23:03, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
Where did he get the red bolts from, and why did he zap Hiro

- He could of gotten it from the ability induction serum that Mohinder invented, hence the formula could be used to cause a catastrophic power pandemic? And he zapped Hiro for "betraying" him. - Arkillion

* Hiro betrayed Ando in "Angels and Monsters".  Hiro stuck him in the chest with a sword to prove to Knox and Daphne that he was a "badass". --Denali 10:55, 14 October 2008 (EDT)

Ando's name
*You state that "Ando" is a common family name in Japan. If that is true, it is most likely that Ando is his last name in fact. That Hiro calls him "Ando-kun" (I don't recall another character that knows Ando and calls his name) is VERY common in Japan, I mean, calling somebody by his last name is the regular, only very close friends, lovers or relatives call somebody by his first name. Between males is very common to call others 'lastname'-kun, but if Ando is comfortable calling Hiro by his name, I don't know why Hiro does the same... Maybe because "Ando" is shorter than Masahashi.
So, as you know (I think), japanese names start with the family name, so they would be Nakamura Hiro and Ando Masahashi. Check out http://www.makikoitoh.com/journal/the_numerous_japanese_problems_in_heroes for another guy (?) that thinks the same, altough I don't know him. -- Signyour Poste
*Ando is his first name, not his family name. He was saying it's a very common name because he brings these centuries-old scrolls addressed to him, and tries to hide the fact that they're written by his time-traveling friend. Masahashi is his family name.-- 05:11, 10 November 2007 (EST)
* Additionally, they usually (but not always) reverse the names in the spoken Japanese to match the Japanese custom.  I don't speak Japanese, but I've caught them saying "Masahashi Ando" and "Nakamura Hiro" more than once.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 05:19, 10 November 2007 (EST)
* Masahashi cannot be a family name in Japanese, and Ando cannot be a given name. I have lived in Japan for 10 years and I can tell you that this is impossible. This error should be edited. It is a bit strange that Hiro refers to Ando by family name but Ando refers to Hiro by given name--normally they would do it the same way. At work and with coworkers they might be more likely to use family names (Nakamura-kun and Ando-kun), whereas if they had a non-work-related friendship they would be more likely to use given names (Hiro-kun and perhaps a shortened "Masa-kun"). -- Signyour Poste
** Remember that Heroes targets mostly American audiences. It is excusable if there were error in naming Japanese characters.  Chrisyu357 02:16, 24 September 2008 (EDT)
*** to expand, I think it's prety clear that TPTB intended for his given name to be Ando, not Masahashi, as he is refferenced to as "Ando" -- 02:51, 24 September 2008 (EDT)
** Actually, Masahashi is a family name in Japan.  Not sure why the anonymous person above asserted otherwise, but regardless of how long they've lived in Japan, they're just dead wrong on this fact.  Here is one example of a real life person with that family name.  --Dreamsmith 02:16, 18 February 2009 (EST)

Look, guys, his first name is Ando, and his surname Masahashi. Heroes targets a western audience (Us), so there might be an error in Japanese culture.--ERROR 20:28, 11 June 2009 (EDT)

Hello, sorry but its obviously, that its kind a error in the Series and of the director or writers. Its totally right what the Anonymous guy said about Japan and its culture. And this "error in japanese culture" phrase, does that reffer to (1) a maybe occured error in the series about Japanese cultere or (2) is it an offensive joke that the error is based in Japanese culture ? I was recieved by me as the second so i got a lil bit pissed off ^^. So... If Masahashi would be a Famaliename why is he written in Katakana. Its clear that the Series sais Ando is first and Masahashi is lastname. Thats correct reffering to Heroes. But in reality its just an "Error", build on less knowledge about Japanese name order and culture. That stuff happens quite often. So reffering to Heroes: Ando (first) Masahashi(last) is correct for this "inner Heroes Universe", but in reality u wont find a "Katakana" Masahashi Surname. Type it in Google all links will reffer to Ando. So its obviously that its a given First name usually. But in Heroes they used it different. Just ask a Japanese person. Its not really wrong, but its damn badly picked for a japanese character. Its like they would use in a foreign Show an american name like "Dobson Smith". I think Dobson is a typically Surname and wouldnt usually be found as a Firstname, maybe only if name giving parents are crazy or excentric. I think that is what Anonymous guy ment and what created this discussion. Just a bad pick of Heroes Makers.

* I never said that there is NO Masahashi surname, I said no "Katakana" Masahashi surname. Cut that crap about english sites or links. Send an Japanese link where i can read and see the japanese signs. I bet the link u posted the Masahashi is written in Kanji in original. At Andos case i argue about the signs. Nearly all Familie names if they arent foreign are written in Kanji. So why not in the Show, if not a mistake had sneaked in. I said its all fine for the Show "intern" that there exists an Ando Masahashi, and also in reality maybe the exact name exist but sure then it is in Kanji. so please a more serious link pls and btw u know what i ment with "links reffer only". Just to type "-ando", no deal. I was about the fact, that if u type only Masahashi and also in KATAKANA, not romaji. If u arent able to write japanese on ur PC dont argue with me. Its not normal that u dont get any side reffering to another "Katakana" Masahashi name. Try it. Type マサハシ into Google. You will see. It isnt normal that the first pages reffering to Ando only. If it was a common surname in Katakana you would find something earlier. In Knaji, yes it is, but not in Katakana. (http://www.sangakuplaza.jp/page/137988 proof that Masahashi Naoya is not comparable because its a traditional Kanji name, so who is plain wrong ? Find a Katakana surname and u got me.) --Ryuuzaki 15:56, 06 January 2010 (GMT +1)

Don't Look Back
Shouldn't Ando's character history for Don't Look Back actually be a part of an article called "Ando Masahashi (explosion future)"? I mean, that Ando exists in a future that no longer exists. Just a thought. --DocM 14:02, 8 October 2008 (EDT)
* Theoretically, yes. I think it would be a bit useless to create this article, but I'm not opposed to it.--Referos 16:25, 8 October 2008 (EDT)
** I don't see any point. There's no fundamental difference between that Ando and the one from five weeks prior. When we're talking about the explosion future, we're generally talking about the future seen in Five Years Gone, which is really, well, five years in the future. We're not talking about five weeks into the future. -- 16:28, 8 October 2008 (EDT)

Is he dead?
I doubt that he is even though sources say otherwise!  I mean Hiro stabbed someone before and he didn't die!  And I don't think Ando will die either.  Besides, he is listed in the cast of the next couple of episodes. - Jasonbres 13:33, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
*Hiro definately found a way to bring him back or else he wouldn't have stabbed him in the first place. Or maybe he ain't dead at al; but he'll be back for sure. --Futurepeter 13:49, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
** I've yet to encounter anyone who believes he's really dead. :P But he is still presumed dead, so until he makes his dramatic return, he should be listed as deceased. --Golden Monkey 16:31, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
*** Agree with Golden Monkey 100%. It's just like listing Arthur Petrelli dead until proven alive. -- 17:41, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
***Uh, no, he's not presumed dead. Daphne says she's not a killer, but she never said "I'm not up for killing Japanese guys". For all we know, she's talking about their plans with Adam. Who knows, but there's no evidence that Ando's dead, just that he got stabbed, just like what happened with DL, Sylar, Matt, Peter and Nathan at the end of Season One. That's five people, and none of them were listed as deceased. Until it's stated that Ando's dead, he ain't dead in my book. On a related note, James Kyson Lee updated his status on facebook with "you'll have to tune in next week..." when everyone kept asking if he's dead.-- 22:22, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
**** Come on. Seriously? Any sane person would see that as a reference to the Hiro/Ando situation at the "Cantina." Besides, Adam... can't die? As for those five characters, whether or not they were dead was ambiguous. With Ando, it's really no question. He was stabbed in the friggin heart. It's not like Hiro took Ando into another room and the stabbing occurred offscreen; in that case, we couldn't assume he was dead. <small>Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ]</small> 23:20, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
**** That's cool. They dealt with the stabbing so quickly that there obviously is something else going on...but either way is fine by me. -- 22:45, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
**** I definitely think he's coming back too, but if we're not assuming anything, do we know for a fact that the German is dead?  Or what about Claire from the explosion timeline, or Knox from the exposed future?  I don't think it was actually stated that any of them were dead either, was it? Stevehim 14:56, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
***** I agree as well. Nobody said he was permanently dead, but I think it's quite obvious that he's dead as of this latest episode. If we're listing all of the people that Stevehim mentioned as deceased, then we should list Ando as deceased for now. Besides, we even saw more concrete physical evidence that he was dead than the other three (except maybe the German). <small>Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ]</small> 18:03, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
***** The German's body was being dragged around after Knox punched through him, and the Company didn't take him back into custody, so that's why he's listed as dead. I also don't think it really matters about future characters since they always change the future, so they don't exist anymore anyway.-- 23:14, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
****** Yeah, that's what I just said. Ando has more evidence that he's dead (he looks pretty dead to me, also look at the image title) than exposed Knox and explosion Claire, but not as much as the German, who's kind of obviously dead. And future characters are still characters... just because that their timeline doesn't exist anymore doesn't mean that the guidelines for whether or not they're dead doesn't apply anymore. <small>Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ]</small> 23:20, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
******* Just to clarify, I still don't think I phrased that correctly. The question of whether or not the German/Ando are dead is much less ambiguous then whether or not those future characters are dead. <small>Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ]</small> 23:32, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
Ok, how about this, it's actually quite funny, what if Ando has the same ability as Peter, Mimicry of some kind. Maybe it's Future Ando who went back in time, and used Illusion on himself to disguise himself as "Ando". So the Future Ando is dead, and the current Ando is still alive :p But hey, it's just a funny theory :) --Futurepeter 15:06, 15 October 2008 (EDT)

Ando's Ability and the Eclipse
I hope I'm posting in the right spot on this one.

Has anybody wondered if this new eclipse will, besides taking away almost all if not all of the characters' abilities give other characters new abilities?  Maybe this is how Future Ando gets red lightning or whatever it is.

I'd post this in Future Ando's discussion page, but since it would be present Ando who would get the ability, I thought it should go here.

Ando and the formula
Anyone else thing that Ando's attempt to use the formula to get space/time manipulation powers will be what gives him his ability from the future???

*Yes, it does. But i do not understand, in the explosion future, how Ando's power kills Hiro, when it only charges other peoples abilities.

Ando can't be affected by Space-Time manipulation
I just noticed when I watched the episodes again, in the episode The Second Coming, When Hiro was playing with time, he keeps turning back and forward the time...

*In 3:00, no one's inside the room,
*in 2:45 no one's insides the room,
*in 3:15 no one's inside the room,
*but when he reversed time to 2:30, Ando suddenly appeared in the door and Hiro was looks very surprised to see him...

if Hiro keeps reversing the time, then we would've seen Ando moving back and forth in the scene, fastforwarding and rewinding...

and how come Hiro looks very surprised? It already happened, he would've known whats about to happen next because he just reversed time backwards...

and then for the next minutes, remember this is 2:30 time, Ando and Hiro just keeps chatting at each other, but how come when Hiro fastforwarded it before to 2:45 and up, Ando is nowhere in the scene? -- 10:24, 13 December 2008 (EST)

* I'm not ready to say that Ando can't be affected by space-time manipulation, simply because of a possible prop error, or a possible example of ability extension. -- 10:49, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Anyone else think it's funny?
Even with an ability Ando will still be a "helper" or sidekick. At least for now, since I guess we have to see how he attacked Hiro in the future. Bloodbath 21:29, 17 December 2008 (EST)
: Yep I was thinking that too. I think it's quite neat on the writer's part to make him always the sidekick, even after having an ability. Although I have to say, it's hard to see how he'll be able to add anything to Hiro's ability, presuming he gets it back (Hiro can already go around the world and travel hundreds of years; what more could he do?). I'm guessing that Ando will have to "charge up" Hiro for him to be able to use the remnants of his "lost" ability.

Future Ando killing Future Hiro
Now we've seen some of what Ando's ability can do (give abilities a hell of a power boost) I don't think he killed Future Hiro. Think about it, Hiro just assumes he has been killed by Future Ando, he doesn't know about Ando's ability yet. All Ando could have done is knock Future Hiro out, or short out his nervous system temporarily. Thoughts? Adam148 05:15, 19 December 2008 (EST)

What if Sylar or Peter took Ando's power?
I wonder if they'd be able to supercharge their own abilities 1,000x. Seems unlikely given the "they're too powerful" concerns of the writers, but fun to think about. ;) --Torley 14:18, 20 December 2008 (EST)
* Then again it might have a similar restriction to Healing, they can't use it on themselves, if it did, it could generate a feedback loop. -- Garthak 09:43, 01 December 2009 (EST)
* Well, right now, Peter can only have one ability at a time, so it wouldn't do him any good.  Sylar, on the other hand... :o  That's just too terrifying to think about.  BTW, friendly greetings, Torley!  :D  --Dreamsmith 02:27, 18 February 2009 (EST)

Probability Manipulation
Ando's ability might be a form of Reality Warping, like that of the Scarlet Witch. Aside from the similar red color of his energy projection, his supercharging ability allows(perhaps through probability manipulation) the increase of power and potential of other's abilities. e.g. Increasing Daphne's speed does not necessarily mean being able to travel through time and perfectly control this method of time-travel.
Moreover, when he injected Mohinder's serum, he was "wishing" the ability to save Hiro, but at the same time as he said to Matt,"to have faith in something". -—Joseph 21:09, 20 December 2008 (GMT)

Electric Manipulation By-product?
Mental Manipulation has two byproducts - Ability Suppression and Memeory Erasure
Telepathy has the following byproducts - Mind Reading, Mind Control, Voluntary Motor Control and Organic-only version of Illusion Generation.
Angela's "Omnicognative Dreaming" seems to have three by-products - Precognative Dreaming, Postcognative dreaming (Used by Peter to see a vision of the past) and Dream Manipulation (how she got into Sylar's head)

It appears that Ability Supercharging can amplify abilities many times their usual strength, but it might have a by-product of Electric Manipulation as seen in one future, something that Ando hasn't learned how to do yet, it is unknown how powerful it is or if it's only the effect it has on normal humans, it is at least powerful enough to stun Hiro (we don't know that the charge was "set to kill" by Ando). --Garthak 09:40, 01 January 2009 (EST)
**I think Ando just "overloaded" Hiro, knocking him out.--IotV 12.48, 4 Janury 2009 (GMT)

Those aren't byproducts. They're aspects. Byproducts are abilities that are also aspects of another ability, as well as being a separate ability (So, yes, the illusion aspect of telepathy is indeed a byproduct. == Future Ando saving Hiro ==

If Ando supercharged someone with the genetic capabilities for power, would that spark a premature reaction? Think about it, Hiro is desperate for his powers back and in the future, he had one half of the formula. What if he was so desperate, he tried to recreate the formula to get his powers back and when Ando blasted him, this caused the same reaction. Serojay 00:44, 18 February 2009 (EST)
* But Hiro shredded the paper with formula, the half he was holding in the future was crumpled, not shredded... And the catalyst - without it formula won't work. And also the world exploded after Ando blasted Hiro - it was the exposed future. If Future Peter never met Arthur and never lost his power to him, why would Future Hiro? No, I think the latter still had his powers.--Altes 08:08, 15 March 2009 (EDT)
** Just because Future Hiro didn't use his power on that occasion doesn't mean he didn't have them, he could be trying not to harm Ando, not knowing Ando would harm him. • I would say that belongs to Hiro. Even though it was for Ando, he didn't really accept it. So it is still in Hiro's possession. Right?--Catalyst · Talk · HL 16:59, 2 September 2009 (EDT)
    • I don't think we need to mention it on either page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:00, 2 September 2009 (EDT)

Significant others

Not only Kimiko isn't listed there - Ando's infobox doesn't have this section at all. Why? AltesUTC CH

Not be able to touch people and charge their power

I reckon could blast out his power and charge it from about 10m aways or a longer distance. 50000JH

A New Ando?

Is this the same Ando anymore? Because Hiro changed the past, he subsequently created a new timeline that has Ando and Kimiko dating. That would mean that technically this is a new Ando living in a new timeline (No matter how slightly altered.) I don't think we should just create a new page for him, but we should at least note it. - Vampirate68 | Talk | Contribs | 12:47, 22 September 2009 (EDT)

  • Does this new Ando have a power? AltesUTC CH
    • Very true. Because he's dating Kimiko, Hiro could have altered the timeline more than he thought. He didn't mention/use it at all last night after Hiro came back... - Vampirate68 | Talk | Contribs | 13:06, 22 September 2009 (EDT)
      • I agree. And I think we'll have to find out in coming episodes. Is Hiro will be obliged to go back again and alter what he did, this also we'll have to see. --Janrodrigo 13:10, 22 September 2009 (EDT)
        • For something Samuel said was "simple and small" is having or could have some serious repercussions. Every thing about Ando could be different now. - Vampirate68 | Talk | Contribs | 13:16, 22 September 2009 (EDT)
          • What I don't understand is that;
  1. If Hiro went back to 14 years ago and changed the destiny of Ando and Kimiko. And as a result, Ando & Kimiko are dating for a long time.
  2. Then the younger Hiro who grew up together with Ando & Kimiko would've known that they're dating. And events such as Ando's face getting reddish in front of Kimiko in Season 1 and Kimiko ditching Ando in the GNs etc. wouldn't happen.
  3. As a result Hiro would know that there's no problem between his sister and Ando, thus never attempting to change anything in the past. (Or wouldn't ask Ando if anything changed or say Yatta! when they kissed, in the present.)
  4. If he didn't try to change anything in the past, then everything would be as we knew until now, thus compelling Hiro to change the past again...thus a never ending paradox!
  • Something similar happened in Five Years Gone. Future Hiro was unaware that Peter saved Claire from Sylar until present-day Hiro told him. AltesUTC CH
  • The reason he contemplated going back to that date is because that fortune teller sent him on the path of overusing his power and dying. - Josh (talk/contribs) 13:55, 22 September 2009 (EDT)
  • I think, I kind of found out the answer, after reading Theory:Time travel and contemplating a bit. There're technically three types of time travels, some of which sometimes can be done in combination: "Fixed Time", "Multiple Universe" and "Multiverser". I, personally always understood well and liked the first two, but not much the "multiverser". Most probably this was a "multiverser time travel". --Janrodrigo 14:16, 22 September 2009 (EDT)
  • Something always prevented Hiro from creating paradoxes, didn't it? He couldn't save Charlie, and saving Claire didn't prevent the explosion. So maybe Kimando (or Andiko?) is okay for the timeline. AltesUTC CH
    • You're absolutely right Altes. I dis-do what I said earlier. (I think we'll have to find out..) Because there's no way that Ando doesn't possess his power, because if he wouldn't have got his power, he wouldn't be able to go to 1991 and bring the stuck and powerless Hiro from the past. Therefore Hiro would stay stuck in the past, in result of which, our timeline would've never be created. So Ando does still possess red lightening :) (By the way, I prefer Kimando) --Janrodrigo 14:47, 22 September 2009 (EDT)

  • When Peter went to the future and left the Irish chick, then came back, he actually left her in an alternate universe. She is still in that universe. What Hiro did now was travel into the past of another universe where Kimiko and Ando where dating(in the present) because our Hiro(from another universe in their perspective) did was he was destined to do in this universe. More clearly I say that Hiro's universe still exists as he left it, and he is in a parallel one now. Every time he changes something in "the past", he is actually going into another universe's past where everything has happened identically to this one, and the difference is Hiro and what he does. When he returns to the present, its the present of the altered timeline. They all still exists and its possible that Ando's supercharging makes Hiro capable of traveling in different realities, maybe as an abstract traveler, not being able to influence that universe in any way. --Discipol
    • I agree completely -Vampirate68 | Talk | Contribs | 20:14, 23 September 2009 (EDT)
      • So does this mean that each time he tries to save Tadashi, he goes into a different past? Therefore, he enters 47 different pasts, prevents Tadashi from photocopying his butt, and returns to the "present" of that timeline (to have his talk with Ando, a talk which is completely the same in all the timelines). But in each of these timelines, Tadashi had photocopied his butt in a different way than Hiro had prevented him from, resulting in Hiro having to repeat the sequence 47 times. Am I right with this? --Radicell 09:34, 21 October 2009 (EDT)
        • I guess I read Discipol's theory wrong. I believe that Hiro goes back to the same past, but travels to a different future each time. Like different branches or a giant time tree. -Vampirate68 | Talk | Contribs | 11:38, 24 October 2009 (EDT)

            • Although not canon material, in a deleted scene, Ando apparently supercharged a plane to make it fly faster. This is the reason for the theory. Though to be fair, this shouldn't be here, it should be on a theory page. (Actually I think it already is). --mc_hammark 18:33, 20 February 2010 (EST)
              • I'm pretty sure he only contemplated using his ability to speed up the plane, but he didn't actually do so... --Skullman1392 18:37, 21 February 2010 (EST)

Power

why did the writers gave him a power, if he's never using it?I think they should use his power more, it has lots of possibilities and it confuses me that he never used his powers on Hiro... WaterRatj 20:25, 13 October 2009 (EDT)

does he has his ability

If Hiro change the past that means changing the future events of Ando at that moment meaning he should not have the ability.User:5000JH/Signature

  • If Ando never acquired his ability, Hiro should be stuck in the past, but he isn't. Therefore, Ando has his power. AltesUTC CH

Did he get rid of the tumour?

He could of destroyed the tissue cells while he was shocking Hiro.50000JH 15:35, 14 January 2010 (EST)

  • If it were so easy, I think Hiro could have had a neurosurgeon do that to him, and it was said somewhere Hiro's tumor is inoperable. AltesUTC CH 06:50, 15 January 2010 (EST)
