![]() Stephen Canfield creates a deadly vortex | |
Held by: | Stephen Canfield |
Ability to: | Create a vortex that pulls its surroundings into itself, causing their complete disappearance. |
Vortex creation is the ability create a deadly vortex at will.
Characters
- Stephen Canfield is the only character known to have this ability.
Limits
Stephen Canfield can create vortexes of varying size in mid-air. These vortexes pull in all forms of matter into themselves. Anything that enters one of Stephen's vortexes immediately vanishes, not to be seen, touched or heard from again. Stephen seemingly requires active concentration to create vortexes, although he spontaneously generates vortexes when he loses his temper. Once he creates a vortex, he can actively concentrate and close it. The range at which he can create vortexes is unknown, but in all instances his vortexes have generated within his line of sight.
In one instance, Stephen created a vortex and then left the vicinity. That vortex dissipated after approximately one minute; but it is unknown as to whether it dissipated automatically because it has a maximum lifespan, Stephen set it to shutdown after a given duration, or it ceased to exist after he passed beyond a certain range. When he created a vortex and disappeared into it, the vortex immediately dissipated. But again, it is not clear whether he "set" it to dissipate immediately after it had done its job, or it required his presence and faded once he was gone.
Stephen can use this ability with relative accuracy, creating a small vortex to disarm Claire in Angels and Monsters.
The upper limits of a vortex's "strength" to pull in objects is unknown. The strongest vortex that Stephen created was capable of pulling in the equivalent weight of an average teenage girl, and could rip wooden boards out of a floor. Besides himself, Stephen has removed at least one other person with his ability.
Notes
- According to the Heroes Interactive for episode Angels and Monsters, Stephen's vortexes have a "dimensional pull". Thus, objects passing into one of Stephen's vortexes would be sent into another dimension, but the condition of said objects after reaching the other side is unknown. It is also unknown as to whether all of the vortexes pull to the same dimension.
