Law of the Conservation of Energy says it has to go somewhere... • It is possible that the energy is absorbed into the user and then displaced harmlessly into the surroundings in alternate forms, such as the blue glow we have seen when the ability is used. • Cooling is the absorption of an objects heat by nearby objects which have less heat.
Freezing is not the reduction of temperature in an object, but the actual conversion of the chemical composition of matter to H20 in its solid form ice. This would not have happened as drastically at it did in The Butterfly Effect by merely reducing the temperature of the body, and it definitely would not have happened for the reporter's clothes, made of different cloths.
Future Sylar obtained freezing in the Future from Tracy	None	+ Tracy is revealed to have freezing abilities. - Sylar already has freezing abilities. + Yes but according to sources and interviews Sylar lost all his previous abilities aside from telekinesis and his aptitude when he contracted the Shanti virus. This may have occured in the Explosion future too. We can never be sure in Heroes. - The Company, mainly Candice, seems to have injected Sylar with the virus. This would not have happened had the explosion destroyed New York City, as Sylar would not be "dead" and he would not have been under Candice's control. + A lot of the things that occurred in the Five Years Gone future are occurring anyway, such as Candice being killed by Sylar (even if he didn't take her power). - Sylar was infected by an artificial strain of the virus that was manufactured by the Company. If Sylar was never captured by the Company, he would not be infected with the virus, unless it was the original strain, in which case, he would probably be dead before the events of Five Years Gone.
