Isaac paints in a fugue state and is not aware of the content of his paintings while creating them. Peter was unaware that he had started painting something until after the fact and he certainly seemed to be in a trance when Isaac's power was triggered in Caitlin's flat. (Fight or Flight) + Isaac paints Peter's location but is not aware until afterwards that Peter was invisible. (Distractions) He appears to need to study his paintings afterwards in order to derive meaning from them, as he needs to notice Peter's footprints to find him.
- Isaac says that he remembered the explosion while experiencing his vision -- "There was a bright light like an explosion. It wiped out the whole city like Hiroshima."
- After his experience with Uluru during a trance, Isaac suddenly returns to a normal state and appears to be in a state of shock.
A painting shows what would happen if the painting were not created. None. + When a painting does not come true, its existence is usually responsible.
+ If the painting of Peter dead on the Union Wells High School hadn't been painted he would have never gone there.
Prior to his own death, Isaac created a work depicting Sylar's death. This painting has nothing to do with his drawing of the events at Kirby Plaza. None + Season 2 partially revolves around the discovery of eight paintings Isaac created before he died. It is presumable that at least one other painting will play a pivotal role in the series.

+ Isaac never described the work he did of Sylar's death, leaving the door open for another work altogether. (.07%)

Isaac's painting will always happen, regardless of interference None + Twice, Isaac's painting could have had multiple meanings, one of a cheerleader lying in a pool of blood, which, if not for Hiro's interference, would have been Claire but was instead Jackie. And again, with Mohinder holding a gun to Noah's face, it was only because Noah had seen the paintings that he acted so quickly and saved himself, although he was shot hours later.
