Theories

Theory Citations Notes
Meredith is related or connected to Maarten or Ted Sprague. None . + All three characters create fire.
- Ted Sprague had the ability to create radiation not fire.
Related evolved humans usually don't have the same powers (example: Hawkins family, Peter and Nathan, Claire's family), though some do (Matt and Maury Parkman), while others have related powers (Maya and Alejandro).

+ Meredith's brother has pyrokinesis.
+ Meredith's father was not seen in the show and both her and her brother have pyrokinesis; their father will most likely be Maarten.

- The Company believes Flint Gordon, Sr. died in the fire around 1983; Maarten worked for the Company around 1989.
- Flint Gordon Sr. has brown hair; Maarten has black hair.
Meredith is a daughter of Adam Monroe. None. + Adam's regenerative abilities have allowed him to live a lot longer than normal people. So he could be Meredith's father.

+ Meredith's daughter, Claire, also has Adam's regenerative abilities.
+ Meredith, her daughter Claire, and Adam all have blond hair.

2% of the world's population have blond hair. That's over 130 million people, 28.5 times the population of New York.
Adam has been around for 4+ centuries he could be the father of countless numbers of the children so narrowing down to one person without substantial proof is hard to believe.

It might account for how Meredith seems resistant to her powers, like in the scene where she depletes the oxygen supply or how she survived the explosion. Then again it could just be because of her powers.

This is because of the Rule of Ted.

- Flint Gordon Sr. is supposedly Meredith's father.

Meredith will meet up with Peter. None. + In the explosion future, Peter had fire powers.
- Peter has absorbed pyrokinesis from Flint, as seen in I Am Become Death.
+ It has been confirmed that Peter absorbs pyrokinesis from Meredith in the explosion future.
- The explosion was prevented, so the explosion future will not happen.

+ Peter and Meredith are both on Primatech's side.
- Meredith may be dead.

Meredith and Flint's abilities are different. None. + Flint's fire surrounds his hands whereas Meredith's comes from her palm.
- By that logic, the powers of Nathan and West are different because we haven't seen West fly as fast as Nathan.
As far as we know they could be: Nathan flies very fast and West just floats and hovers very slowly.
We have seen West fly both Claire and Noah Bennet from point a to b, so West can do more than hover and flies at least at a reasonably high speed.

We have yet to see Flint survive a lack of oxygen like Meredith did.
- Both abilities generate fire.

- Flint's power might just be more developed than Meredith's.
- In Playing with Fire, Flint says he's been practicing to make it 'extra hot'.
+ But in terms of range instead of the heat of the flames, Meredith is far more developed because she can even launch fireballs. Something Flint might not be able to do.

Flint's blue flames suggests that he does not need oxygen to use his power. Meredith's fire uses oxygen as seen in One of Us, One of Them. This may mean Flint could be harmed by a lack of oxygen, making his and Meredith's powers different.

As long as a substance is being burned, oxygen is used up. As blue flames undergo more complete combustion, they actually use up more oxygen than orange flames.

+ Flint jumps back from the fire that he caused when Peter broke a gas line. If his and Meredith's abilities were the same, why would he have jumped and not run through it?

- Regardless of immunity, a small explosion can easily startle someone.
+ And this is Flint we're talking about. Gullible would describe him.

+ Meredith survived the explosion she caused when the Company was after her.

If there was a explosion right next to Meredith the fire would not burn her; the only injury she would get would be when she hit something hard. In all episodes that Meredith uses pyrokinesis her hand has no burn. + The Rule of Ted would apply.
- The rule has its exceptions.
+ The exception does not apply to pyrokinesis.
Meredith didn't die in the explosion. None. + Those with abilities are many times not able to harm themselves with that ability, including the ability of pyrokinesis. Fire has not harmed Meredith in the past; Ted Sprague did not harm himself; etc.
- If the building fell in on her, then she could have been killed (not being killed from the flames directly).

+ The explosion would have blasted all concrete near Meredith away from her, making it less likely she died.

- But there was plenty of the building above her to fall down on her. Even if all of the building that was above her went up away from her, which is not likely, it would have to fall back down again, with much of it landing on her.
+ Maybe the majority of the explosion was out and away from her, and not upwards.

+ This could be referring to the explosion that happened when Claire was a baby. The Haitian told her he knew nothing of her father, and that her mother had died.
+ Most of the building was still standing as Claire and company looked on, it seems unlikely she would have been crushed if this was the case.

- The building could have fallen at any time thereafter.
+ Meredith could have got out of the building by then, if it ever happened at all.
+ Should Sylar survive somehow, he could have saved Meredith with the intention of having someone to leverage with Noah or Claire.

+ Hiro or Peter could have saved her.

- When Primatech burned, Peter was saving Nathan, and Hiro didn't have his powers anymore.

+ This doesn't rule out that Future Peter couldn't save her. He has been known to change the past.

- And future Peter would be affected by the changes in the current timeline. If Peter didn't recover his previously absorbed abilities, there's no way any future Peter would come to the rescue.

+ Meredith has experienced a similar event in the Graphic novel Hell's Angel. She managed to escape then so there is no reason to say she couldn't do it again.

- On that occasion, she had control over her ability. She didn't have it at Primatech because Sylar pumped her with adrenaline.

Either way, Meredith still exploded. If she survived it, she might have regained control over her ability.
While the Rule of Ted might've prevented her death, secondary things like debris could have killed her. Also, certain things may negate the Rule, as seen with Elle.
