I know this is a "controversial" page (read: Y'all think it's bunk!)... And since it ''is'' technically just a fan theory, is there some way we can make it an extension of the Theories page? Should we leave it alone? - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 00:06, 30 November 2006 (EST)

  • Personally, I have not seen anything abnormal about the color red in the show. In the interest of cleanup, I've categorized it to get it out of the Special Pages. --Orne 16:11, 10 November 2006 (EST)
    • I haven't noticed anything in particular about red, either. Anyone else? Any interviews or fan discussions about it already? (Admin 16:15, 10 November 2006 (EST))
      • I spent a good hour or so trying to think of any examples of this. There are red things, like Claire's cheerleading outfit, but there are lots of scenes with supernatural stuff going on with no red stuff. The only thing red that stands out for sure is this article ... it's a red herring.--Hardvice (talk) 01:40, 11 November 2006 (EST)
        • Should it be deleted then? I have not seen a mention of this theory on 9thwonders.com, and that's saying something, given what normally passes for theories over there  :) --Orne 01:44, 11 November 2006 (EST)
          • I'd vote to kill it. Even now that the list is filled out, I can't help but think we could do the same thing with an article called "Blue" or "Yellow" or "Chartreuse". This is up there with the OMG THE 11YO INDIAN BOY IS REALLY MOHINDER'S DEAD SISTER threads in plausibility.--Hardvice (talk) 17:52, 14 November 2006 (EST)
          • Seconded (thirded?). --Fcphantom 17:55, 14 November 2006 (EST)
            • I vote for deletion as well. (Admin 18:12, 14 November 2006 (EST))

There are lots of examples of red in the show, just as many comic books, movies, and other media will use a particular color to evoke a feeling, emotion, or as a sign (or, yes, red herring) to the audience. Red is especially evident in Isaac's paintings.

  • It just doesn't strike me as any more prevalent than any other color ... say, blue. The scenes between Peter and Isaac are filmed with a heavy blue filter, as was the scene between Peter and Future Hiro. In those cases, it's definitely a design choice, but that alone doesn't mean it Means Something. The instances of red seem to mostly be instances where one would expect to see red, unlike, say, the red doorknob in The Sixth Sense. They also seem far too random to be trying to establish a point. It seems a lot more like they're filming a world that happens to include red things than it seems OMG THIS STOPSIGN IS RED IT MEANS THERE ARE SUPERHEROES PRESENT.--Hardvice (talk) 13:53, 16 November 2006 (EST)
    • With all due respect, just because one fan doesn't see it, doesn't mean another doesn't. In the end, we are cataloguing the world of Heroes, including fan theories. No, this is certainly not a plot point. But it is part of the world, and it is a viable theory and observation about the world. Watching three episodes back-to-back for the first time, my wife and I both turned to each other and noted, "Man, they use a lot of red in this show, don't they." It's okay if not everybody sees it or agrees with it - but that's not a reason to delete a page.Ryangibsonstewart 16:01, 16 November 2006 (EST)
      • So given that there are differing opinions on whether it's a valid theory at this point, I suggest we default to leaving it. We can just make sure the article or references to it point out that it's a fan theory. (Admin 16:18, 16 November 2006 (EST))
      • I think the problem is, many people feel is not that evident that they are using Red any more than any other color in the palette. Yes, things like the "school color" can be picked to have significance to the show, but... It happens that my High School in PA also had the mascot of the Wildcat and school colors were Red and White. Coincidence, yes -- but does that mean that Red was picked in Heroes because it's "special", or was it picked because it is a common school color so that the viewers can feel that it's an 'anytown' high school.... likewise, things like "stop signs" are not unique, "blood" is used in every show as a suspense element... Feel free to keep populating the list, I'm gonna leave it alone. --Orne 16:35, 16 November 2006 (EST)
        • You make a good point - of course there is going to be red in any show, and that doesn't mean that it's necessarily special. But I think it's the design choice in certain parts of the show where red is used to be striking (like the red dress in Schindler's List, or throughout The Sixth Sense), or at least to mimic the look of a comic book (much the way bright colors were used in Dick Tracy). True, a stop sign probably doesn't need to be included in the list, but many of the examples are signigicant. And even though blood is always going to be red, you have to admit that it looks pretty striking in the 9th Wonders comic book page Ryangibsonstewart 17:31, 16 November 2006 (EST)
