Theory talk:Nathan's reflection
Unless we're planning an article on "Nathan's reflection", this theory is probably better off (and would be easier to find) were it relocated to Theory:Nathan Petrelli.--Hardvice (talk) 13:49, 28 September 2007 (EDT)
- Totally agree. If it were about something completely unique, that's one thing. But it can be easily classified under Nathan's stuff. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:27, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- I also worry that, with the new individual theory pages, we'll get a lot of unnecessary new pages for every unique theory. I can just see "Theory:Nathan's beard", "Theory:Nathan's alcoholism", "Theory:Nathan's separation", "Theory:Nathan's homoerotic whisper in Hiro's ear during Landslide". -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:04, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- I'm not sure what Theory pages we have offhand already, but would it make sense as a general policy to not have Theory articles where there isn't a matching article in the main namespace? (Admin 13:09, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
- There are a few that are very, very general which don't have a matching article (like Theory:Red), so all of the templates, etc. are set up to allow a theory page with no mainspace page. But yes, by and large, it's probably best to have a general policy to have a theory article tied to a mainspace article. In fact, I think all of the documentation at present assumes that to be the case.--Hardvice (talk) 13:16, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Could add a section to MediaWiki:Newarticletext where if someone tries to create an article in Theory namespace without a corresponding one in the main namespace then instead of displaying the "Create theory page" button it displays some help text saying that theories should match a main article and can even suggest seeking out a more general Theory page. (e.g. Theory:Nathan Petrelli vs Nathan's reflection). (Admin 13:21, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
- That sounds like a pretty good idea. Something like "When possible, theory articles should relate to an existing article. Currently, there is no article called "{{BASEPAGENAME}}". You should [[Special:Search?ns0=1&search={{BASEPAGENAME}}&searchx=Search|search]] for a better article title for which to create a corresponding Theory article".--Hardvice (talk) 13:35, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Sounds groovy. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:59, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Seems to be working. Try creating Theory:Clach versus, say, Theory:Uluru's girlfriend. Could probably use some more distinctive formatting--maybe a box and a big scary WARNING--Hardvice (talk) 14:11, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Looks fantastic. It doesn't work if somebody tries to create a theory for a redirect (say, "Theory:Peter"), but I guess that's okay. You're right, though, there should be some kind of an attention-grabber. I'll add a warning, but not as scary as the one above. Whew, I almost peed my pants when I saw it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:17, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Or it could even be Please note. Looks less scary. :) (Admin 14:25, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
- Ah, that's the one. Let me take off my diaper and see how that looks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:28, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
