Ability to: Detect when people are lying

Lie detection is the ability to detect if other people are telling lies.

Characters

Limits

This ability allows the user to sense when someone speaks a lie. Limits are unknown at this time. This seems to be a passive ability.

This seems to depend on sensing physiological variations rather than a limited form of telepathy: Arthur Petrelli's mental abilities provide no immunity against the power.

Sue Landers

Sue is able to detect Sylar's lie immediately after she is told he's there to make a delivery.

Sylar

Sylar states the user feels a tingling sensation when told a lie, after being lie to by in an elevator, when a man is nervous after seeing him with blood on his hands and shirt. He is also able to detect a lie from Arthur Petrelli.

Selected Examples

  • In Our Father, Sue Landers used this ability to determine that Sylar was not at her office to deliver something. She also senses that when he says he won't hurt her, he's lying.
  • In the same episode, Sylar, after killing Landers, used this ability on an office worker in the elevator, as well as on Arthur Petrelli.

Memorable Quotes

"I'm here to give you a delivery."

"No... you're not."

- Sylar, Sue Landers (Our Father)

"Huh, it does kind of tingle."

- Sylar (Our Father)
