In order to explain why they are spending so much time together, Claire and Zach tell her father they are working together on a research paper about manatees for their biology class.
Distractions
Claire and Zach use the excuse that they are going to the aquarium in Lubbock, TX, to study manatees for their research paper as cover for their trip to visit her biological mother in Kermit, TX.
Trivia
- Manatees have been on the Endangered Species List since its inception in 1973. In 2006, an estimated 3,000 manatees existed, up from just 65 in 1980.
- In reality, there is no aquarium in Lubbock, TX. Incidentally, it takes about three hours to drive from Odessa to Lubbock, TX. It only takes about one hour to get from Odessa to Kermit, TX.
