It had been a while since Mark had had some time alone with his thoughts. Usually he was always with someone, partnered with Knox, or Flint. He took the time to go for a walk in a park. Drink some coffee. Although he had been working for Arthur Petrelli for some time now, he still remembered his true reasons for doing so.

He hadn't had much contact with Claude lately, he could never really get alone. But he took this opportunity to call him.

"Claude, it's Mark."

"Finally, I thought they found out about you. What do you know about them?" Claude asked.

"They don't seem like they're working for the Company. Nor with them. But I don't think they're good news. Claude, they're experimenting with some sort of formula. I think it's supposed to give people abilities." Mark replied, looking round.

It was a beautiful day. There were people all around the park. People running, couples sitting on benches, children eating ice-cream.

"That doesn't sound good at all. How far along are they with it?"

"I think they're almost done." Mark paused. "Claude, they've started experimenting on people. They had me kidnap some people." "And what happened to them?"

"I don't think you'd want to know. Long story short, Claude, I need help. We need to stop this."

"I'll see what I can do. I need to go."

"Whatever you're going to do, do it fast." Mark said.

After the call ended, Mark sat down on a bench. He stayed there for over an hour, just taking in the surroundings. He stood up and began to walk back to Pinehearst. He passed a couple sitting on a bench. Mark looked at the woman, who smiled and winked at him. Mark smiled back, but the man noticed and stood up.

"What they hell do you think you're doing mate?" he asked in an irish accent.

"Sorry?" Mark asked.

"That's my girl."

"Do you have a problem or something?" Mark asked the man.

"Yeah," said the man, grabbing Mark's jacket.

"Listen, I don't want to have to hurt you." Mark warned the man, pushing him back.

The woman now stood up.

"Look baby, just leave it, ok. He didn't mean anything by it. C'mon, lets go."

The man looked from his girlfriend to Mark and back again.

"Fine, let's go."

The couple turned around and began to walk away. Mark turned and began walking off too. There was a tap on Mark's shoulder. He turned around as a fist hit his face, knocking him out.

Mark awoke in the back of a vehicle. He opened his eyes to see himself staring down the barrel of a gun. The person holding it was the woman that had been in the park.

"Don't move. Don't try to escape." "Who the hell are you?" Mark asked.

"We're agents from Primatech. And we know all about you."

Mark looked to the driver. It was the man. The car continued driving until it pulled up at a large building. When he got out, Mark noticed a solar eclipse beginning.

The agents walked Mark into the building and through some corridors.

"In here," the man told Mark. He pointed to a cell. Mark entered and the man closed the door behind him.

The cell was grey concrete, with a chair, and one large window on one wall. Mark sat down on the chair and watched as the man and woman left. He stood up and went to the window. He looked out and down the corridor. There was a large black number four on the wall, and there were two guards at the end of the corridor. Mark sat back down.

He waited for a while then decided he would practice with his abilities. He had been storing up some energy since he was inside the car, taking in as much noise from the car, heat and light from the sun as he could without arousing suspicion.

He tried to create an arc of electricity to overload the lock on the door. But he couldn't. He tried again. And again. And again. He couldn't do it. He tried to create different energies. He couldn't use his ability at all. He was powerless.

"Can't use your ability?" came a voice from outside the cell.

There was an older woman in a suit standing there.

"No. What are you doing to me?" Mark asked her.

"We're not doing anything. It's the eclipse."

"The eclipse?" asked Mark.

"Yes. It took away all of our abilities. We don't know why, but we know someone who might. And apparently, you worked with him at Pinehearst."

She walked to the cell door and entered the code. The cell door opened.

"Come with me," she said.

Mark followed her. They walked through several corridors. She turned into an office, and Mark followed. The male agent who had kidnapped him was sitting on a couch.

The woman sat down at a desk and signalled for Mark to sit down opposite her.

"Mr. Cunningham, we know what you've been doing. We know that Mr. Rains sent you." she said.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Angela Petrelli and I'm in charge of the Company, but you already know all about us don't you."

"Yeah, Claude filled me in on what you guys do."

"Claude hasn't worked for the Company for years, we've changed since then."

"You still kidnapped me." Mark told her.

Angela, paused for a few minutes, then pulled out a file. She handed it to him. Mark looked through it. It was of Arthur Petrelli.

"My husband. You worked for him. He's dangerous Mark. And he's going to change the world forever. We need you to stop him. You're the only one that can." she told him.

"Me? And how do you know this?" Mark asked, glancing at her up from the file.

"Various sources," she told him. "Do you know what he's planning to do once he completes the formula?"

"No. What?"

"He's going to create an army. An army of superhumans. All with abilities, and they'll be the downfall of humanity. Mark, we need you."

"He's going to be giving it out?"

"Yes, he thinks that abilities are the weapons of the future."

"Surely he realizes that people will want it, they'll steal, and kill for it."

"No. He doesn't. Which is why we need to stop him."

"How? We don't have our abilities."

"Which is why we need Doctor Suresh. We know you're working for them, so you can get in. Get him back here to figure this out." Angela told Mark.

"I don't know if he will. Mr. Petrelli seems to have something Suresh wants."

"Just get him back here. No matter what it takes. Agent Nolan here will help you."

Mark looked around at the agent, who was still sitting on the couch.

"Go. We need Doctor Suresh back here as soon as possible."

An hour later, Mark and Agent Nolan, who had introduced himself as Mikhail Nolan, stood outside Pinehearst.

"Wait here," Mark told Mikhail.

"I don't think so. I'm coming with you."

"You can't come with me, they'll know something is up. I need to go in alone."

A black van pulled up and Knox got out.

"Mark," he said as he approached. "Who's this guy?"

Mark looked at Mikhail. Then at Knox.

"This is Mikhail. He's a friend. Knox, we need to stop Arthur."

"I don't think so. We don't have our powers and that formula may be the only way to get them back," Knox said.

"Knox, you don't understand. He's not doing it to give us our powers back, he's going to give it to other people. He's going to create an army of specials."

Knox looked at Mark, then Mikhail, then towards the building.

"That would mean we wouldn't be all that special anymore."

"Yes."

"Then we'll stop him."

"You don't need to do anything just now Knox. Just act normal."

"Have you seen Flint?" Knox asked.

"No. Go find him. Convince him to help us," Mark told Knox.

"I don't think that'll be too hard." said Knox.

Inside, Mark and Mikhail entered Suresh's labratory. He wasn't there.

"Oh my god," Mikhail said, pulling back a sheet, exposing a man who was very disfigured.

"Is this what they've been doing?" he asked.

Mark nodded. He looked through Suresh's files, and on his computer. There were things on the eclipse, and on the formula.

"We'll need to split up," Mark said. "We'll find him faster that way."

The two split up, and Mark headed in the direction of Arthur's office. When he arrived outside the office, the door opened, and Arthur appeared.

"Mark. Would you like to come in?"

Mark hesitantly entered. Arthur closed the door behind him.

"I know that you visited Angela," he said.

"Visited is hardly the word I'd use. Kidnapped is more like it," Mark smiled, trying to fool Arthur.

"Yes. And then you joined her side. Trying to find a cure for the loss of our powers because of the eclipse. Well the eclipse has finished, and we have our powers back."

True enough Mark was able to create a ball of light in his hand.

"Sadly," Arthur continued, taking a step towards Mark, "you're still a danger to me."

Arthur put his hand on Mark's shoulder.

"And I can't have that. I'm afraid I'm going to have to let you go."

Suddenly there was a large bright light forming around Arthur's hand. Mark felt a large amout of energy being sucked from his body and soon he was lying on the floor. He tried absorbing some of the light in the room to get it back. It didn't work. He tried with heat. Again it didn't work. His ability was gone.

"What did you do?" Mark shouted at Arthur.

"I took your abilities. I can't have you running around working for the enemy. I'm sorry. And now you have to go." Arthur told Mark.

"Go where?" Mark asked, getting to his feet.

"You're going back. Back in time. Back to 1982," Arthur told him.

Arthur put his hand on Mark's shoulder. Suddenly the room he was in changed to stone. Mark found himself inside a building. Arthur was nowhere to be seen.

Mark looked around him. There were boxes everywhere. Primatech Paper. Mark saw a newspaper on one of the boxes. He picked it up and looked at the date. November 7th 1965.

This couldn't be right, there had to be a mistake. It had to be a trick. Before he had a chance to do anything else, a door behind him opened and in walked three people; a young woman and two men, one of Japanese descent, while the other looked and sounded American.

Mark froze as the woman and American drew guns. He put his hands in the air.

"My name is Mark Cunningham, and as wierd as it sounds, I'm from the future."
