Sergeant Carlos Gutierrez is an Afghanistan War veteran who earned a medal for bravery in battle, though he never committed the act of bravery he was recognized for. Following his brother's death, Carlos tried to live up to the honor he was given by fighting crime under the alias "El Vengador". After the kidnapping of his nephew and his friend, Carlos was forced to team up with an enemy to save them. In the process, he was reunited with an old love and was inspired to continue his work as El Vengador, protecting the people of Los Angeles.
