- Wikimedia: links to http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/. Your link is to mediawiki, which is a different site. It can be changed if you want, but you'd have to let Admin know. I don't know how to change the interwiki links. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:13, 5 June 2007 (EDT)

Portal Help
It's high time we create a section for editing portals. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:13, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- In fact, I'd also like to write a template with directions that preload every time a portal is edited. However, I'm not sure which MediaWiki page is responsible for providing the text at the top of the editing screen. I'm aware of the editintro variable that can be added the request string of a URL, but I don't know 1) how to get it to preload for pages that already have text, and 2) which MediaWiki page to add logic to so it only preloads on pages with "Portal" in the title. Hmm. Anybody able to help? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:22, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
Potential methods to alter directions for editing Portals
- You can edit MediaWiki:Newarticletext and have that do a search if the first word of {{FULLPAGENAMEE}} is "Portal:".--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:52, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- No, that only works if the page is a new page with the word "Portal" in the title. I would like to preload text for basic editing, not for creating a new page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:15, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- Ah, well there's MediaWiki:Noarticletext. That's for articles that exist, but don't have any content. I realize that's not exactly what you want but maybe it can help?--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:26, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- I do appreciate your suggestions, but no, that's not what I'm looking for. I want to preload a template of directions evertime a page with the word "Portal" in its name is edited. Maybe it's not possible. Even manually, I can't figure out how to get the URL to work for me. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:09, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- Heh, it's an interesting challenge. :) If you are still interested in pursuing it, I was thinking you might be able to put the help code in MediaWiki:Sitenotice; but currently, there's no function allowing you detect that 'action=edit' is part of a url. You could write a function that references $path or calls 'getFullURL();', but I'm not positive that the 'action=edit' will show up. And I assume editing the toolbar to print text above it isn't what you want, so I checked into the 'editintro' you mentioned. It says here that the editintro variable is an option that can be set to the 'title of an existing article or template to rendered above the edit form'. Maybe set it to a new template, MediaWiki:Allarticletext, and see if that works.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:08, 22 September 2007 (EDT)

Special Links
Thanks for this section. I didn't even know some of these existed, what with having such a busy wiki. Plus, it's good to have these all laid out in such an organized way. Thanks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:38, 11 November 2007 (EST)
- I kind of went crazy with these the other week. I started trying to think about repetitive things we end up typing over and over again and how we could simplify them. Anything else that comes to mind?--Hardvice (talk) 00:40, 11 November 2007 (EST)
