Heroes movie

After the cancellation of Heroes, there were plans to bring about a Heroes movie to wrap up loose story lines. This plan never came to fruition. Years later, the world of Heroes was revived with the mini-series Heroes Reborn.

Timeline

On April 17, 2010, TVLine reported that MSN was in talks to revive Heroes. The relaunch would be on Xbox, and would "include new stories and heroes, while mixing in cameos from the original series cast (schedules and interest permitting)."

On May 5, 2010, stuff.co.nz reported that "a possible mini-series or movie could still go ahead."

On May 14, 2010, reports stated that "There has been talk that NBC may air a movie that allows the producers to wrap up the story, but nothing has been set in stone."

On May 17, 2010, Tim Kring said, "I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the Heroes universe alive for its fans." NBC's primetime entertainment president, Angela Bromstad, confirmed that discussions had begun regarding plans to produce a two-hour Heroes event. This would be aimed at providing closure for longtime fans of the series. This event was confirmed on May 25, 2010, to be a two-hour movie.

On May 25, 2010, Greg Grunberg confirmed that there was a story and that NBC was in favor of a Heroes movie. "Tim [Kring] has a great story in mind. I know he has to sort of rethink it because he was thinking in terms of six or 13 [episodes] now it has to be two hours or four hours. But I know that the network wants to."

On June 21, 2010, Entertainment Weekly asked Tim Kring, "Will we see a Heroes movie on NBC next season?" Kring said, "No decision has been made . But the Heroes brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise. It wasn't about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening. We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways. Certainly, a movie is a way to do that and clearly, there is an entire world and a number of platforms that this property could live in. Movies sometimes need a little distance from the television show."

In August 2010, Greg Grunberg was still talking about the possibility of a Heroes movie, from a financial and business standpoint, from a storytelling standpoint, and from a fan service standpoint.

On August 25, 2010, Digital Spy interviewed Tim Kring and asked about a Heroes movie. Tim said, "Unfortunately, there's no more news on it. But it looks like we're really going to start talking about it now. The summer months in television are always about preparing for the Fall launch of all the new shows, so I totally understand why there hasn't been a lot of discussion [until now]. Once the Fall season is launched, I fully believe that this discussion will get reignited in a very big way."

On September 9, 2010, NBC officially announced that it wouldn't go forward with a Heroes movie, at least for the 2010-11 season. However, Tim Kring still indicated at the time that the show's broad premise allows for many different stories to be told in many different ways.
