Talk:Costa Verde, CA
Fictional?
I'm not so sure this is fictional. On the Season 2 spoiler talk page, HiroDinoSlayer said, "The spoiler says it is a fictional place. However, there is a Costa Verde, CA; a small area in the 92122 zipcode area of San Deigo, of which Costa Verde Blvd runs through. I think there is also a Costa Verde beach (esp playa de Costa Verde) in Southern CA." However, according to Google Earth, the area that Costa Verde Blvd runs through is called University City. - Right, I was confused by the same thing. My best source is my grandmother *chuckle chuckle* who used to live in San Diego. She said there are sections of where she used to live that are called Costa Verde (kind of like SoHo or Greenwich Village are sections of New York City), but that she didn't know any cities called Costa Verde in Southern California. She could be wrong, but I have yet to see a city called such. So far it's just as you said: streets, areas, and beaches. I think I'd like to hear what Joe Pokaski and Aron Coleite have to say. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:30, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Maybe University City (referred to as a town by Wikipedia, despite being within the borders of San Diego) was once called Costa Verde, and the writers either didn't research it or just thought the old name sounded better. I remember an interview with Jack Coleman where he said that the Bennet family moves to a town close to San Diego in Season 2. Conduit 18:29, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

- Many of those seem to be references to the neighborhood, which doesn't really tell us if it's a municipality or not. Incidentally, and not that it's conclusive proof, but the USPS Zip Code Lookup can't find it, and it can find towns with a population in the very low 100s.--Hardvice (talk) 20:31, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks for those, HDS. So it seems that more than one Costa Verde exists, but none exists as a city. I saw three ZIP codes (92626, 92122, and 92999) which either belong to Costa Mesa or San Diego. The other references seem to point to street names or local areas within cities. Good information. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:33, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

In the latest episode, "I Am Become Death", a satellite picture of "Costa Verde" is shown on TV. This is actually an image of the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California. I recognized it right away because I live here! There's a tiny street called "Via Costa Verde" in Rancho Palos Verdes. The nuclear blast is depicted in the heart of Rolling Hills, however. In the episode "Trust and Blood" they showed and aerial view of the town of "Costa Verde" and having lived in the area I noticed Catalina Island on the horizon and a golf course on the coast so I went to Google Maps and did a search for golf courses on the coast parallel to Catalina and came up with "Rancho Palos Verdes" - I posted comparison images of Costa Verde from the show and a screen shot from Google Earth of Rancho Palos Verdes here.
RE: Costa Verde location name - I used to live in SD and LA, been thru Rancho PV on Via Costa Verde too. Wonder if by chance this could also be a small tribute to the "Poltergeist" movie housing development named "Cuesta Verde Estates" which was built on the graveyard [ http://www.poltergeist.poltergeistiii.com/cuestaverde.html ]. I seem to be seeing more such references lately, since that movie was resurrected (some pun intended). Cheers from another minor city in the Heroes universe, Austin TX. BTW, I just found that there's also a Cuesta Verde street in an upscale lakeside community not far from here, makes you wonder! - HiRoll 20:30, 8 Nov. 2008 (CDT)
A City?
Has it ever been said that Costa Verde is a city or sub-urban town. Surely, if it is only an area in a larger city, then it can still be referred to as Costa Verde? --mc_hammark 11:16, 8 December 2009 (EST)
