5 years in the future

• I read somewhere in an interview just recently with Masi Oka that "Future Hiro" was from about 5 years in the future. If anyone can find that article we can add it as a reference.

Future Hiro on Portal Pages

Change Name

Really, isn't "Future Hiro" too ambiguous? I mean, there's Hiro 5 weeks in the future, then there's Hiro 6 months in the past who went there from what is then the future, then there may yet be other cases of Hiro travelling from the present to the past as a future Hiro, then there's the one who told Peter to save the cheerleader. I say we change this one's name to "Soul Patch Hiro." Who's with me?--E rowe 18:53, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Well, actually, the article is "Hiro Nakamura (future)", which is a little easier than "Hiro Nakamura (5 years in the future)". I think it's pretty clear that this is referring to the one Hiro that is really in the future. ... But "Soul Patch Hiro" sounds pretty cool. Why?

I had a question that turned into too many words. It's too big to put here so I put it (temporarily) over at my Userpage but would like to know where it goes or what to do with it or whether or not I'm full of it. Short-form: Why would Future Hiro have motive to go back in time and change events as he knows it, knowing it would destroy future as he knows it? -- ZachsMind 19:57, 9 February 2007 (EST)

• Okay. Some two and a half months later we get the answer. Bleargh. With the graphic novel String Theory we can see that the writers are in fact playing with the Many Worlds Theory of Quantum Mechanics. This means that the Hiro that we know, 'present Hiro,' will now never turn into the Future Hiro that we saw near the beginning of the series. When Future Hiro went back in time to tell Peter to save Claire, Hiro altered history, but not his own. He instead created an alternate reality which may or may not be any better than his own. Future Hiro's reality will not cease to exist. There's simply now another branch on a temporal tree. -- ZachsMind 23:06, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
  • There may be a bit more to it than that. While the explosion still happened in FH's timeline, it was originally caused by Sylar ... now it may have been caused by Peter instead. It may be the same timeline, but it could be self-correcting somehow (which is weird, but kind of fits with all the fate/destiny elements of the show). Or it may be correctable, and merely the case that an unforeseen ripple in the timeline caused the explosion to still occur.     • The impression I get is that Future Hiro is trying to alter his own history. Yes, it will destroy the world he knows, but he wants to destroy the world he knows in favor of a better one in which evolved humans aren't persecuted. Unfortunately, he seems to be unable to create the causality paradox that would be required: the changes that he can make can never leave him without a reason to go back in time, so history always adjusts to leave him in the same dystopian US. "Present" Hiro may be able to change Future Hiro's history, though, since he will be changing his own future, not his past. --Ted C 13:49, 25 April 2007 (EDT)
      • Exactly! Both Future Hiro and present Hiro can make and have made some changes in the past (Charlie's birthday photo, Peter exploding instead of Sylar exploding), but never enough to cause a causality paradox.--Hardvice (talk) 15:18, 25 April 2007 (EDT)
        • And it seems that the only way to change something is moving backwards in time. But excellent point Ted about Hiro being able to change Future Hiro's past since it's his future. I think in String Theory FHiro mentions that he cannot change his own past, but he can change someone else's (such as Peter saving Claire). --Bob 16:05, 25 April 2007 (EDT)
          • I believe Future Hiro is in the same situation as Future Trunks from Dragon Ball Z. Future Trunks time travels in an attempt to change the past and save humanity. But little does he know, he is actually traveling to an alternate timeline (something like a parallel universe). When Future Trunks returns home, he notices that nothing has changed and everything is still destroyed (the exact same thing happened to Future Hiro). He does not realize what is going on until he visits the main timeline for the second time. He learns that the two timelines are completely different and that he cannot save his own timeline, but he can save another--our familiar timeline.
            • Yeah that's what I believe too. Saving his own timeline would have him no existing as he exists and it would be the same paradox as killing your "young parent's". How could he have been in the past to save it if the past doesn't need to be saved anymore ? Hum... My head hurt!               • That's exactly the point, though. Future Hiro will cease to exist if Present Hiro succeeds in "saving the world". Future Hiro can't prevent his own existence, but Present Hiro can prevent Future Hiro from existing. --Ted C 16:33, 25 April 2007 (EDT)
                • Right. And Future Hiro did succeed in changing his own past, albeit not enough to cause a causality paradox: in the world he left, Claire was dead; in the world he returned to (and which present-day Hiro and Ando visit), Future Claire is very much alive and well. Had FHiro merely gone back and tried to stab Sylar and Peter and Ted so there'd be nobody to explode, he probably would have been yanked forward in time like present-day Hiro was with Charlie. But since all he did was prevent Sylar from gaining Claire's power, the timeline played out in a way where he still has a reason to go back in time to begin with: Peter exploded, not Sylar.                 • Also, how awesome would it be if the season ended with present-day Hiro, using what he's learned from Future Hiro, chopping Peter's head off right before he explodes? Something I can't quite comprehend

How did Hiro know who Peter Petrelli was in the original timeline? And how did he know Peter would be in the subway? --Citizen

• From the way he talks, Future Hiro knew Future Peter in the original timeline. I'm guessing we'll find out more about their relationship tonight, but I'd guess they met up some time after the explosion in Future Hiro's original timeline. He knew Peter would be in the subway because of his string web timelines; he must have talked to Future Peter about what he did in the weeks leading up to the explosion and decided that was the best time to contact him.--Hardvice (talk) 17:24, 30 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Hardvice covered it pretty well. Hiro didn't know of the alternate timelines. He thought he could time travel and change his own timeline. He knew that Future Peter existed five years ago just like how you would know a friend that existed five years ago. Hiro learns of the alternate timelines later (indicated in the automated reply for the most recent blog post, "Final Message". E-mail charliea@primatechpaper.com.). He probably knew Peter was in the subway because Future Peter told that he was there. --Ice Vision

Kaito's death

Most events that occurred after Hiro and Ando left for the future should not be included here. Kaito's death is a prime example. The logic fits, too: had Hiro not gone to the future and seen what it becomes, he might not have gone to Kirby Plaza. Had he not gone to Kirby Plaza, he might not have traveled back to feudal Japan. Had he not time traveled, he might not have ever met Kensei. Had he never met Kensei, Adam Monroe might never have been filled with hate and bitterness. Had he never been filled with hate, he might never have killed Kaito. Kaito's death exists in one timeline, and Future Hiro exists in another.
