Talk:Moral ambiguity

• I find there's actually shockingly little "good" versus "evil" in the show, in at least that none of the characters are really "good" or "evil" (with the possible exception of Sylar and Jessica, but even that's debatable).     • The more I think about it ... even Matt, my first pick for a totally "good" character, seems to have few qualms about invading people's privacy by reading their minds. Granted, most of the time he does it, it's for good ends, but at the bar he seemed to be doing it for kicks. Jessica is motivated by fear and a desire to protect/provide. Sylar feels he's compelled to finish the job evolution started. Claire intentionally maimed Brody. Micah lies to DL and tells Jessica, who he knows is up to no good, how to find them. Peter worries he might be the villain after all. Nathan and Mr. Bennet are all over the place.--Hardvice (talk) 12:35, 4 January 2007 (EST)

Sylar attacks

So I think that the continuation of Sylar's attacks should not be included on this page. Moral ambiguity suggests that the line is blurred. I think the first instance of his attacks should note his motives, but subsequent attacks are derived from that one motive. Just my thoughts.--Bob 05:40, 3 April 2007 (EDT)

Removed some stuff

I've removed stuff that wasn't morally ambiguous (ie, shades of gray; like doing something bad but with good intentions). Stuff like Brody trying to rape Claire, or Sylar killing someone, doesn't qualify because there's nothing altruistic or redeeming about their actions. Similiarly, stuff like Niki going to an AA meeting doesn't qualify because she isn't doing anything wrong.

Also, I think the examples should be categorized differently, like by the different characters as opposed to by the episodes the events occured in. --Cylon 15:04, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

• Most of the changes you made were really good (though I'm not sure why the caption kept changing, or what was wrong with it in the first place). The only one I would restore: is "A mysterious man renders Matt Parkman unconscious." Seems pretty morally ambiguous to me--in fact, any of the Company's bag and tag missions would be considered "gray", I would imagine.

  As for categorizing by character: I don't see what's wrong with categorizing by episode--it's how almost the entire rest of the site is organized. Almost every other theme is broken down episodically, too; the one or two that aren't seem really out of place, in my opinion.   • The thing about the Haitian rendering Parkman unconscious is still there; I just made the link refer to him as "the Haitian" and not "a mysterious man."

  • Concerning the caption; I guess I just wanted more context on why HRG was shooting Claude (ie, how he was on orders when he shot Claude, why there were orders to shoot Claude in the first place, ect).
  • Also, this applies more to the other articles, but I think they would look better if the information was in chronological order (ie, Linderman's Vietnam history would be in the beginning of his article, HRG's background from Company Man would be the beginning of his article, ect ect).
