Theories

Just writing too see if anyone had any theories on Mr. Bennett.

In Episode 11 "Fallout", when Mr. Bennett brought Claire to the jail to visit Peter Petrelli, Peter began a noticeable cough. Does Mr. Bennett have a sickness or is he ill? Is it one of his 'abilities'?

It also seems in the same episode in a prior scene that Sylar had no powers in the Primatech facility. Later when Eden came to suggest suicide, Sylar had his powers. Did Sylar learn how to manipulate them or was he blocked by Mr. Bennett?

Peter's cough: I believe as he's absorbing powers, he becomes more "ill" - but the details are still unknown, and it's all speculative. Feel free to add your theories here, though.
Sylar's powers: There's been a lot of back-and-forth about Sylar's powers, but it's the same idea - we just don't know anything conclusive quite yet. I'm sure the Haitian has something to do with it. You can add your Sylar theories here, or your theories about Mr. Bennet here. :) - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:35, 7 December 2006 (EST)

Re: Genesis

In the comment for HRG under "Genesis" it says that he overheard HRG in his father's apartment in Midras. This is not correct. At the time he overheard the phone call between HRG and his boss, Mohinder was in his father's Manhattan apartment. Also, in the unaired version of the pilot, the portion of the scene where Mohinder overhears HRG was not included (it ends as Mohinder glanses at the map). From the original context it appeared to me that HRG may not have originally known about Chandra's research (but did know OF him) - lending more evidence that HRG was originally supposed to be a minor character.

  • I remember this being a little confusing to me, too, initially, but it was indeed Chandra's apartment in Madras where he overheard Mr. Bennet on the phone. He was talking to Nirand as he climbed up the stairs and then he enters the apartment. As he's looking around the apartment he ends up hearing Mr. Bennet and he rushes out. (Admin 09:59, 8 December 2006 (EST))
    • It absolutely was New York, I just watched it two minutes ago.
      • So did I. :) He first enters the apartment in Madras which is where he overhears Mr. Bennet. Later in the episode he goes to NY and the landlord lets him into Chandra's apartment there. He finds that apartment ransacked. It's there that he tells the landlord that he's going to rent the apartment and that he has a job as a taxi driver. (Admin 10:05, 8 December 2006 (EST))
        • Ah, I see what's happened. The scenes are shifted. In the version I have here, we never see him at the apartment in Madras. It shows him talking to the landlord then going into Chandra's NYC apartment. The scene in the beginning ends with Mohinder talking to his father's friend int he street. - (Yoshie 10:11, 8 December 2006 (EST))
  • It's also curious how HRG was in New York to meet with Mohinder and then a very short time later he turns up in Texas (before the sun sets!) to be welcomed home by Claire. What sort of budget does this guy have to work with that he can travel like that?!
    • When he appears in Mohinder's cab later, he makes the comment that he is going to fly out of JFK.

Wireless, Part 1

Is it just me, or is anyone else shocked to see HRG kick Hana to the ground. She is clearly a trained fighter, from the way she took down her superior officer (moustached guy concerned about her "heart"). Perhaps HRG has super powers after all? Maybe the Haitian is hidden around the corner, and he has nullified Hana's super strength. - AverageMan

  • I think HRG just caught her off guard. And her power isn't super-strength. It's Electronic Data Transception. - Heroe
    • The graphic novels are considered "near-canon", I think mostly because they tend to slightly exaggerate the truth. I'm sure in reality (look at me, what am I talking about, "reality"??) they had an encounter and scuffle, but not as dynamic as in the GN. But who knows, right? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:52, 5 January 2007 (EST)

When his name is revealed...

It'll suck. Not the name itself, but if we decide to go back and change every single Mr. Bennet to a Name, it'll blow. (Just something I thought of the other day.) ---- 01:09, 9 January 2007 (EST)

I don't think we'll find out his name this season. Just my opinion - I think they'll keep it "mysterious" for quite awhile (like "Not Henry" on Lost's second season). But there's no need to go back and change his name - it's still Mr. Bennet, and even if we know his first name, he's still known as Mr. Bennet. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:29, 9 January 2007 (EST)
Plus, we can fairly safely move him to "Lorenzo Bennet" or whatever and let the redirect do the work. Since it's unlikely to move again, there's little danger of double redirects, and most of the existing links will need to stay "Mr. Bennet" anyway, since they refer to episodes in which we didn't know he was called "Boutros Boutros-Bennet" or whatever.--Hardvice (talk) 02:33, 9 January 2007 (EST)
In the beginning of Distractions, Sylar holds up what appears to be Bennet's driver's license to the window. Perhaps a freeze frame will reveal his name? --Glue 06:25, 6 February 2007 (EST)
I checked it as I watched the episode the first time hoping it just might reveal his name. Alas, it only says "Bennet" for the name. Between the id and Sandra's comment about it being weird that everyone calls him Mr. Bennet I think the writers were enjoying messing with us. :) (Admin 06:36, 6 February 2007 (EST))
I literally yelled out loud "DENIED!" when Sandra got cut off before she could say his first name. --Ted C 09:59, 6 February 2007 (EST)
I literally yelled out "COME ON!" when she cut herself off - which I've started getting in the habit of doing after seeing Greg Grunberg during online commentary. I think we should start referring to HRG as "Stop that you, no more shoes" or STYNMS. Stynms Bennet. -- ZachsMind 16:46, 7 February 2007 (EST)
His Name is revealed if you were paying attention. It was on his licence Sylar showed him when Bennet was trapped in the cell. His name is Bennet, period (like Cher).Bennet NFI, NMI (No First Initial, No Middle Initial... it is how people who have only one name have to sign legal and financial documents in most contries to show that it is a one word legal name). --WolvenSpectre 10:31, 7 February 2007 (EST)
...or, the production staff was taking the mickey out of us obsessed fans that use TiVo. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:00, 7 February 2007 (EST)
LOL!--WolvenSpectre 11:27, 7 February 2007 (EST)
But if he didn't have any name besides "Bennet", then his wife probably wouldn't have said what she did just before cutting herself off. Yes, it's possible that she could still phrase it that way, but not very likely. That and the driver's license, both during the same ep, were clearly a taunt at us viewers. ^^ I tend to think his first name isn't yet revealed (or possibly even decided yet) because the story doesn't need it yet. Similarly, they don't need to give "Claude" a real name yet, or clearly decide what other powers Sylar has, or exactly how he acquires them. --Glue 03:51, 15 February 2007 (EST)
What, she couldn't have been saying "I have always just called him Bennet" being that it is both a first and last name?
Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski's latest CBR more-or-less confirms that he has a first name, that the writers already know it, and that it's Biblical in origin.--Hardvice (talk) 13:10, 15 February 2007 (EST)
It's Methuselah, isn't it? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:31, 15 February 2007 (EST)
Casca? Lot? Peter? David? Solomon? Abraham? Morachi? Baal?--WolvenSpectre 14:30, 15 February 2007 (EST)

According to Aint It Cool his first name is Jack... See second bullet point... I don't think this is credible as it isn't from NBC but just thought I would point it out. -Zeckalpha 11:57, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Jack Coleman is the actor so they may have been confused. -Lөvөl 13:03, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

"HRG's Diary"

Is the blog official? Because it makes a lot of radical assertions, and does not seem to be written in a very authentic style. If it is just a fansite, I feel it may be helpful to mention this next to the link, or people may end up using it to source unofficial material. Branfish 03:02, 18 January 2007 (EST)

No, the site you're referencing is not official (but neither are any of the blogs produced by NBC). It's a fan site about Mr. Bennet. Good point about the misleading link - I added that it's a fan site in the article space. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:08, 18 January 2007 (EST)

DOB on Driver's Licence

I originally read the licence as being 06/06/62 but when I changed birth date, It was corrected to 08/06/62. I checked the scene and tried to get a clearly one way or the other answer but even in the clearest pictures it is looks like a fuzzy 6 or a fuzzy 8. I would have to try to see if I can get a broadcast HD version from a friend to tell.--WolvenSpectre 17:12, 6 February 2007 (EST)

  • It's definitely clearer on our old version of the screencap (check the expiration date (it's clearer than the DOB), but still blurry. But on my HD set, it's clearly an 8 on both DOB and expires.--Hardvice (talk) 17:39, 6 February 2007 (EST)
  • your link is bad so I can't tell. I blown my caps up and tweaked them in gimp, but to no avail. on either date. the moving in circles didn't help either.--WolvenSpectre 17:44, 6 February 2007 (EST)
    • Thanks for the Fix E Rowe. My caps actually came out a little better than that but the dates are just as unclear. I can see them being an 6 or 8. The font/typeface they use doesn't help either.--WolvenSpectre 17:56, 6 February 2007 (EST)
      • I have the HD (720p) Screencapture of Mr Bennet's Licence. I did not edit the image and you will have to look at a version that is not compressed by MediaWiki. If you do it is clear as day, it is an eight. Well I guess it is August 6,1962 after all. Damn 6/6/62 (666) would have been cooler! ];P --WolvenSpectre 10:17, 7 February 2007 (EST)
        • Yeah, like I said, it was very frustrating because it was so clear on HD and so fuzzy on SD, but I can only transfer files from my regular Tivo, not my HD DVR.--Hardvice (talk) 13:11, 7 February 2007 (EST)
        • At least you get to watch them in HD, I'm stuck on SD NTSC/PAL 21" flatscreen CRT set either in live broadcast, lower bitrate compressed MPEG 2 (my PVR needs to upgrade everything), or usually (ugh) VHS. Every once in a while I pester a poor friend for their better MPEG 2 or one friends HD captures. Their getting tired of it so my friend is going troll through his big drives and get me the whole season so far. YAY! (although I know they are doing this just to shut me up!) :D --WolvenSpectre 18:03, 7 February 2007 (EST)

Bennet's Power

After spending an entire night contemplating HRG and the Haitian, and the Haitian's power, I can't think of any way that HRG COULDN'T have a power. I think that his power is the power to nullify other's powers, but he play's it off as the Haitians power. In the scene where Nathan flies away from them, the Haitian can be seen with his hand out to wipe Nathan's memory, but HRG is clearly distressed by the situation. As soon as I can piece more of this together, I'll post more. Anomy 10:38, 21 February 2007 (EST)

  • I can think of a way he doesn't have a power: The writers have explicitly said he doesn't have one. :) (Admin 10:42, 21 February 2007 (EST))
  • Where and when?! Anomy
    • Sometime last fall, I do not have the interview available. I've also had this theory for a while, that The Haitian can only control memories, and that HRG has the ability to nullify powers (like he has his own built-in Glycimerine field). And, that it's really just a camera trick to make you think that HRG is "normal". Of course, in a way, maybe it was a trick statement too: HRG has "no power", since what he does is nullify powers... --Orne 11:13, 21 February 2007 (EST)
    • Multiple times. One of the CBR interviews with Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski. Jack Coleman has also said he doesn't believe he has a power. Tim Kring also said he doesn't have a power. I'm not sure which interviews with the last two address it, but I believe it's one of the interviews archived on the Interviews page.--Hardvice (talk) 11:26, 21 February 2007 (EST)
      • Plus, just from a writing standpoint, it makes such a strong statement if Bennet doesn't have any powers. It's interesting that he has such power over such powerful people, yet has no powers himself. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:45, 21 February 2007 (EST)
        • Could just be more variations on a sub-theme in hero stories: that heroism (or villainy) is less about your actual powers and more about how well and to what purpose you use what you have. With Peter, Sylar, Bennet, and Mohinder the impact of their characters on the story is based less on their power (or lack thereof), but their ability to affect all the other characters in the story -- Peter uses, Sylar steals, Bennet controls, and Mohinder educates. With that in mind, Sylar and Bennet are particularly strong characters right now, Mohinder seems rather ineffective so far, and Peter is intended to be the ultimate hero. --Glue 00:59, 26 February 2007 (EST)
      • I like the idea that someone without power can have such influence over those that do, but the further we get into season 2, the more likely it seems. He keeps alluding to 'what he is capable of doing' or words to that effect. He's still a mystery.....
  • Well he's clearly got some sort of power.. He just died in ep. 9 but somehow comes back to life.
    • The focus on the blood leading into his arm in the hospital makes it pretty clear that he's been given some of Claire's blood, much like Nathan was able to completely heal after being given Peter's blood.--croush 22:11, 19 November 2007 (EST)

Restriction on Drivers License

Anyone know the visual restriction code for a Texas Driver's license that would require the driver to wear glasses? If Bennet does not have that listed, then it means the glasses are not required, so they serve some other purpose. --Baldbobbo 15:08, 25 February 2007 (EST)

  • His vision isn't necessarily bad enough to warrant a restriction on his license. Plus I dont know how it is in Texas, but where I live once you get your license they rarely if ever perform another vision test so even if his vision's bad now it may not have been when he first got his license. I think his glasses only serve one purpose: to help him to see. :) (Admin 15:12, 25 February 2007 (EST))

According to the Texas Drivers Handbook the restriction code for corrective lenses is A. This appears as "REST: A" on Bennet's license. Therefore, yes Bennet is required to wear glasses. --Rayden54 14:02, 14 March 2007 (EST)

Bennet shooting Claude

Did anyone else think that Bennet looked surprised after the first shot, like he didn't intend to pull the trigger?--Jebriggs98 17:07, 27 February 2007 (EST)

  • They talk about that extensively in the video commentary. The writers thought it was important to show that Mr. Bennet was surprised he actually did it--that his loyalty to the Company won out over his emotions.--Hardvice (talk) 16:42, 27 February 2007 (EST)
    • I watched the commentary and I like that what they were looking for with that scene really came through. Thanks for pointing out the commentary to me.--Jebriggs98 21:36, 27 February 2007 (EST)

Mr. Bennet doesn't wear Horn Rimmed Glasses

I was looking at the horn rimmed glases wikipedia page and the glasses that page describes don't match Bennet's glasses. Horn rimmed glasses are apparently those thick plastic framed glasses you see emo kids and Drey Carey wearing. Bennet actually wears "half rimmed glasses".. but at least his acronym still works :D The definition of horn rimmed says they don't have nose pads, but Bennet's glasses definitely have them (you can see them when mohinder picks up the glasses in genesis for example) --Frantik (Talk) 02:29, 28 February 2007 (EST)

  • It looks like he's actually wearing 'Ray Ban Clubmasters' or something very similar. --Frantik (Talk) 04:11, 28 February 2007 (EST)
    • I think they're Ronsir Zyls or something of the sort. -Melloasjello 12:20, 28 February 2007 (EST)
      • THANK YOU. I was hoping someone would actually notice this. They're actually called Browline glasses. Most of the characters on the show seem to call them horn-rimmed, too, hence the mass confusion.

HRG == Jack?

  • Alan Arkush refered to HRG as Jack twice in the parasite episode commentary. I didn't know if i should put this in the trivia or notes section though in case it was a spoiler or something. Is there an appropriate place? --Frantik (Talk) 03:38, 8 March 2007 (EST)

Mr. Bennet's glasses

I'm noting this here, in case we ever write an article for Mr. Bennet's glasses. It comes from Tim Kring, posted on NBC.com.

Q:Is there any real significance to Mr. Bennet's glasses?
A:Because his character had very few lines in the pilot, and needed to be recognizable, we gave him a distinct pair of glasses. I also liked that they had a distinct early days of the CIA look to them. Very "Company Man".

By the way, if an article ever is written, this pic should totally be the lead image. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:05, 12 March 2007 (EDT)

Bennet's Possible Power

In .07%, does anyone else that that Bennet has the power to say things in people's minds, or was that really just Parkman using telepathy?

  • He's taking advantage of Matt's telepathy. (Admin 23:02, 16 May 2007 (EDT))
    • Agree, it's definitely telepathy. Bennet doesn't have a power, and I think it's really a nice balance that he has no power at all. It makes for a very nice irony that this plain old human knows more about power usage than these evolved humans.... — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:35, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
    • In Generations, the first episode of season 2, Mr. Bennet grabs his boss's finger and flips him upsidown. I believe he has a super strength ability but im not exactly sure, can someone confirm this? Dean Harper 10:04, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
      • I don't think there's any reason to think Bennet has superhuman strength based on the confrontation in Four Months Later. The self-important copy-store boss probably twisted himself onto the table to releave the pressure on his fingers; it wouldn't take superhuman strength to make him do that. The producers have made it quite clear that Bennet is an ordinary human. --Ted C 10:15, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Why does everyone want Bennett to have a power? Like if he doesn't trip while walking down a street, people will jump to conclusion he has superhuman agility. Why is that? The actor has stated his character has no power nor does he want him to have one. I like that his character does very well without the need for a power. Working for the company for so long, he has learned to find strengths and weaknesses in people's powers and exploit it. I consider him the "Batman" of the series. Clayjar 09:25, 19 December 2007 (EST)

Summary

I made Noah Bennet/Season One page and started to edit this one but i didn't have enough time so can someone take care of that?--Kettieli 16:14 19 July 2007 (HST)

New First Name

Was he identified as "Noah Butler" at all (nametag?) in the episode? Obviously he was called "Butler," but wouldn't he try to switch up some of the names, since I'm sure the Company can narrow down the Noah-Lyle-Claire-(presumably Sandra) families?

Just a thought. We should probably assume Noah until proven otherwise.--Tim Thomason 19:18, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Nevermind, he has since been identified as such.--Tim Thomason 21:06, 24 November 2007 (EST)

Meat Loaf

In Meat Loaf's video for I'd Do Anything for Love, an official-looking man in horn-rimmed glasses is chasing after a man who turns into a strange beast at will?

One of Noah's first bag-and-tags anyone? -- Cameth 00:55, 07 October 2007 (EDT)

Languages

Are we sure that Bennet speaks Ukrainian? Russian is also a common language in the Ukraine. --Ted C 13:24, 12 November 2007 (EST)

  • Well, Ukrainian or Russian, they're all very close languages --Hornrimmedglasses123 08:17, 20 November 2007 (EST)
  • I recognized it as definitely being Russian. It was not Ukrainian. --Jetski

Resurrection

Ah, I guessed this was gonna happen. That he'll either be revived by Claire's or Adam's blood. So no big surprise at the end of the episode for me. Someone else had this foresight? --BloodyFox 23:32, 20. Nov. 2007 (CEST)

  • Issac, probably. --Piemanmoo 17:48, 20 November 2007 (EST)

Is he Nathan's attacker?

  • I don't know if this is supposed to be here or not but if it isn't let me know.
  • I don't think H.R.G is the "killer" (Nathan may not be dead) because of time constraints, he was in Costa Verde, how would he get to Nathan's conference in Odessa Texas. I think it is someone in the Company, but it is not him.--horrorman
    • If the assailant was Noah (which is actually very probable), Noah would have no problem getting to Nathan's press conference on time. Remember, just because the episode Powerless was one hour, it doesn't mean the events in Powerless took place in an hour. Time in the Heroes universe is different from the real world. Heck, it's entirely possible that Nathan's press conference was one week after the vault experience. Also, the reason I say that Noah is probably the shooter is, Noah made a deal with Bob and the Company to keep his family safe. The deal included going back to the Company, and working with them. Since Nathan, Matt, and Peter were about to expose the Company and its secrets, Noah might have had to shoot Nathan.--Ice Vision 18:40, 12 December 2007 (EST)
      • It seems pretty likely that the press conference occurred shortly after the vault incident, either later that day or the next morning (Nathan wanted a conference right away, and the clothes don't change). It seems more likely that the events in Costa Verde-land occurred a day or two before the vault incident.--Tim Thomason 19:35, 12 December 2007 (EST)
        • Not that it matters, but I've worn the same clothes for a week before...--Ice Vision 19:46, 12 December 2007 (EST)
          • Well... I'm sure you didn't look as nice as Peter, Nathan, and arguably Matt did at the end of that week.--Tim Thomason 20:00, 12 December 2007 (EST)
            • It's actually not that bad if you don't sweat during the day. But, you've got a point there.--Ice Vision 20:26, 12 December 2007 (EST)
