Theories

Just writing too see if anyone had any theories on Mr. Bennett.

In Episode 11 "Fallout", when Mr. Bennett brought Claire to the jail to visit Peter Petrelli, Peter began a noticeable cough. Does Mr. Bennett have a sickness or is he ill? Is it one of his 'abilities'?

It also seems in the same episode in a prior scene that Sylar had no powers in the Primatech facility. Later when Eden came to suggest suicide, Sylar had his powers. Did Sylar learn how to manipulate them or was he blocked by Mr. Bennett?

Peter's cough: I believe as he's absorbing powers, he becomes more "ill" - but the details are still unknown, and it's all speculative. Feel free to add your theories here, though.
Sylar's powers: There's been a lot of back-and-forth about Sylar's powers, but it's the same idea - we just don't know anything conclusive quite yet. I'm sure the Haitian has something to do with it. Re: Genesis

In the comment for HRG under "Genesis" it says that he overheard HRG in his father's apartment in Midras. This is not correct. At the time he overheard the phone call between HRG and his boss, Mohinder was in his father's Manhattan apartment. Also, in the unaired version of the pilot, the portion of the scene where Mohinder overhears HRG was not included (it ends as Mohinder glanses at the map). From the original context it appeared to me that HRG may not have originally known about Chandra's research (but did know OF him) - lending more evidence that HRG was originally supposed to be a minor character.

  • I remember this being a little confusing to me, too, initially, but it was indeed Chandra's apartment in Madras where he overheard Mr. Bennet on the phone. He was talking to Nirand as he climbed up the stairs and then he enters the apartment. As he's looking around the apartment he ends up hearing Mr. Bennet and he rushes out.     • It absolutely was New York, I just watched it two minutes ago.
      • So did I. :) He first enters the apartment in Madras which is where he overhears Mr. Bennet. Later in the episode he goes to NY and the landlord lets him into Chandra's apartment there.         • Ah, I see what's happened. The scenes are shifted. In the version I have here, we never see him at the apartment in Madras. It shows him talking to the landlord then going into Chandra's NYC apartment.   • It's also curious how HRG was in New York to meet with Mohinder and then a very short time later he turns up in Texas (before the sun sets!) to be welcomed home by Claire. What sort of budget does this guy have to work with that he can travel like that?!
    • When he appears in Mohinder's cab later, he makes the comment that he is going to fly out of JFK.

Wireless, Part 1

Is it just me, or is anyone else shocked to see HRG kick Hana to the ground. She is clearly a trained fighter, from the way she took down her superior officer (moustached guy concerned about her "heart"). Perhaps HRG has super powers after all? Maybe the Haitian is hidden around the corner, and he has nullified Hana's super strength. - AverageMan

  • I think HRG just caught her off guard. And her power isn't super-strength. It's Electronic Data Transception. - Heroe
    • The graphic novels are considered "near-canon", I think mostly because they tend to slightly exaggerate the truth. I'm sure in reality (look at me, what am I talking about, "reality"??) they had an encounter and scuffle, but not as dynamic as in the GN. When his name is revealed...

I don't think we'll find out his name this season. Just my opinion - I think they'll keep it "mysterious" for quite awhile (like "Not Henry" on Lost's second season). But there's no need to go back and change his name - it's still Mr. Bennet, and even if we know his first name, he's still known as Mr. Bennet. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:29, 9 January 2007 (EST)
Plus, we can fairly safely move him to "Lorenzo Bennet" or whatever and let the redirect do the work. His Name is revealed if you were paying attention. It was on his licence Sylar showed him when Bennet was trapped in the cell. But if he didn't have any name besides "Bennet", then his wife probably wouldn't have said what she did just before cutting herself off. Yes, it's possible that she could still phrase it that way, but not very likely. That and the driver's license, both during the same ep, were clearly a taunt at us viewers. ^^ I tend to think his first name isn't yet revealed (or possibly even decided yet) because the story doesn't need it yet. Is the blog official? Because it makes a lot of radical assertions, and does not seem to be written in a very authentic style. DOB on Driver's Licence

I originally read the licence as being 06/06/62 but when I changed birth date, It was corrected to 08/06/62. I checked the scene and tried to get a clearly one way or the other answer but even in the clearest pictures it is looks like a fuzzy 6 or a fuzzy 8. I would have to try to see if I can get a broadcast HD version from a friend to tell.--WolvenSpectre 17:12, 6 February 2007 (EST)

      • I have the HD (720p) Screencapture of Mr Bennet's Licence. I did not edit the image and you will have to look at a version that is not compressed by MediaWiki. Their getting tired of it so my friend is going troll through his big drives and get me the whole season so far. YAY! Bennet's Power

After spending an entire night contemplating HRG and the Haitian, and the Haitian's power, I can't think of any way that HRG COULDN'T have a power. I think that his power is the power to nullify other's powers, but he play's it off as the Haitians power. In the scene where Nathan flies away from them, the Haitian can be seen with his hand out to wipe Nathan's memory, but HRG is clearly distressed by the situation.     • Sometime last fall, I do not have the interview available. I've also had this theory for a while, that The Haitian can only control memories, and that HRG has the ability to nullify powers (like he has his own built-in Glycimerine field). And, that it's really just a camera trick to make you think that HRG is "normal".     • Multiple times. One of the CBR interviews with Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski. Jack Coleman has also said he doesn't believe he has a power. Tim Kring also said he doesn't have a power.         • Could just be more variations on a sub-theme in hero stories: that heroism (or villainy) is less about your actual powers and more about how well and to what purpose you use what you have. With Peter, Sylar, Bennet, and Mohinder the impact of their characters on the story is based less on their power (or lack thereof), but their ability to affect all the other characters in the story -- Peter uses, Sylar steals, Bennet controls, and Mohinder educates. With that in mind, Sylar and Bennet are particularly strong characters right now, Mohinder seems rather ineffective so far, and Peter is intended to be the ultimate hero. --Glue 00:59, 26 February 2007 (EST)
      • I like the idea that someone without power can have such influence over those that do, but the further we get into season 2, the more likely it seems. He keeps alluding to 'what he is capable of doing' or words to that effect. He's still a mystery.....
  • Well he's clearly got some sort of power.. He just died in ep. 9 but somehow comes back to life.

Restriction on Drivers License

Anyone know the visual restriction code for a Texas Driver's license that would require the driver to wear glasses? If Bennet does not have that listed, then it means the glasses are not required, so they serve some other purpose. --Baldbobbo 15:08, 25 February 2007 (EST)

  • His vision isn't necessarily bad enough to warrant a restriction on his license. Plus I dont know how it is in Texas, but where I live once you get your license they rarely if ever perform another vision test so even if his vision's bad now it may not have been when he first got his license. According to the Texas Drivers Handbook the restriction code for corrective lenses is A. This appears as "REST: A" on Bennet's license. Therefore, yes Bennet is required to wear glasses. --Rayden54 14:02, 14 March 2007 (EST)

Mr. Bennet doesn't wear Horn Rimmed Glasses

I was looking at the horn rimmed glases wikipedia page and the glasses that page describes don't match Bennet's glasses. Horn rimmed glasses are apparently those thick plastic framed glasses you see emo kids and Drey Carey wearing. Bennet actually wears "half rimmed glasses".. but at least his acronym still works :D The definition of horn rimmed says they don't have nose pads, but Bennet's glasses definitely have them (you can see them when mohinder picks up the glasses in genesis for example) --Frantik (Talk) 02:29, 28 February 2007 (EST)

      • THANK YOU. I was hoping someone would actually notice this. They're actually called Browline glasses. Most of the characters on the show seem to call them horn-rimmed, too, hence the mass confusion.

HRG == Jack?

Mr. Bennet's glasses

I'm noting this here, in case we ever write an article for Mr. Bennet's glasses. It comes from Tim Kring, posted on NBC.com.

Q:Is there any real significance to Mr. Bennet's glasses?
A:Because his character had very few lines in the pilot, and needed to be recognizable, we gave him a distinct pair of glasses. I also liked that they had a distinct early days of the CIA look to them. Very "Company Man".

Bennet's Possible Power

In .07%, does anyone else that that Bennet has the power to say things in people's minds, or was that really just Parkman using telepathy?

      • I don't think there's any reason to think Bennet has superhuman strength based on the confrontation in Four Months Later. The self-important copy-store boss probably twisted himself onto the table to releave the pressure on his fingers; it wouldn't take superhuman strength to make him do that. Why does everyone want Bennett to have a power? Like if he doesn't trip while walking down a street, people will jump to conclusion he has superhuman agility. Why is that? The actor has stated his character has no power nor does he want him to have one. I like that his character does very well without the need for a power. Working for the company for so long, he has learned to find strengths and weaknesses in people's powers and exploit it. I consider him the "Batman" of the series. New First Name

Was he identified as "Noah Butler" at all (nametag?) in the episode? Obviously he was called "Butler," but wouldn't he try to switch up some of the names, since I'm sure the Company can narrow down the Noah-Lyle-Claire-(presumably Sandra) families?

Is he Nathan's attacker?

  • I don't know if this is supposed to be here or not but if it isn't let me know.
  • I don't think H.R.G is the "killer" (Nathan may not be dead) because of time constraints, he was in Costa Verde, how would he get to Nathan's conference in Odessa Texas. I think it is someone in the Company, but it is not him.--horrorman
    • If the assailant was Noah (which is actually very probable), Noah would have no problem getting to Nathan's press conference on time. Remember, just because the episode Powerless was one hour, it doesn't mean the events in Powerless took place in an hour. Time in the Heroes universe is different from the real world. Heck, it's entirely possible that Nathan's press conference was one week after the vault experience. Also, the reason I say that Noah is probably the shooter is, Noah made a deal with Bob and the Company to keep his family safe. The deal included going back to the Company, and working with them. Since Nathan, Matt, and Peter were about to expose the Company and its secrets, Noah might have had to shoot Nathan.--Ice Vision 18:40, 12 December 2007 (EST)
