Careful

  • Let's be careful where we're using this template. It really should only be used in places where the page being linked to is dynamic (which usually means that it will only be used in certain other Templates like the Theory template it was originally designed for). We shouldn't use this to forcibly remove red links. Red links are ok and not only serve as a reminder that an article is needed, but they help keep the statistics accurate as to what pages are being linked to the most already and ought to be created. • Gotcha. I just used it at User talk:Thrashmeister#Image:Misty eyes.png because I figure the image will be deleted and it saves the trouble of going and erasing red links if the image is deleted. I also use it a lot for things that I'm not sure need to become articles, especially in disambig pages. For instance, Connecticut (disambig) lists two cities that really don't need articles right now...but if they one day become important, then those places are automatically linked. Wouldn't this be a good use of the link template? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:24, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
      • I'd agree with that. I think we should make sure to avoid it in places where we feel there's a high chance of a link soon, but we could use it in some places where there's a medium chance of a link in the future. It's not the end of the world if we use it a little too much, of course, since we can always go back and clean up superfluous (hah) uses of the template afterwards, but I suspect we'll find that it's only used on a small set of pages (Theories, disambigs, etc). • Right, I see the big picture. However, one of my biggest pet peeves for the site is seeing red links on the main page. I also don't like having red links in the interviews I've conducted, but that's more of a personal preference than anything else. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:55, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
