The Manhattan target was granted his ability by a dose of uncatalyzed formula. |

+ Like Mohinder's ability, nerve gas emission is both dangerous and difficult to control.
- The Manhattan target lacked the horrific mutations which all other users of the uncatalyzed formula exhibited.
- + He may have taken the formula very recently, and simply hasn't developed them yet.
- - Mohinder and others who were injected with the uncatalyzed formula developed mutations very fast.
- + Mohinder had his ability for some time before the mutations started.
- + Also, the mutations may have been hidden beneath his clothing.
- How would this man have managed to obtain the formula?
- + He could have been an employee of the Company who stole a sample and ran, not knowing that the formula he had stolen was incomplete.
- - Nothing indicates that he ever worked for the Company.
- The Manhattan target had an ability during the Evs Dropper summer arc, the formula was only introduced after Season Three started, after the Evs Dropper arc had finished.
- + The formula existed long before the Evs Dropper arc even began; it simply wasn't introduced until Season Three.
- - This formula had the Catalyst; the uncatalyzed formula was created by Mohinder and Arthur Petrelli after Evs Dropper arc.
- + This theory presupposes that the serum he used did NOT have the catalyst. He may have already begun mutating, explaining why he chose to wear a turtleneck and trench coat in non-wintertime Manhattan. Also, Mohinder didn't invent the formula; the Company figured it out long before he was born. They may have kept samples of uncatalyzed serum in storage.
- - Why would the Company keep samples of an unstable, deadly formula (the elephant man didn't die because of the formula, but he was in extreme pain)?
- - According to Angela, the Company decided to stop producing the formula and playing God, that's why they divided and hid it.
+ If you have samples of a highly dangerous substance which takes the concept of 'hazardous waste' to nightmare-inducing heights, how are you going to dispose of it? Any method of disposal could potentially end with it escaping into the environment. Imagine an area where all the people are deranged freaks with superpowers.
- - Peter destroyed Strain 138 of the Shanti virus using induced radioactivity, and Mohinder destroyed some vials just by throwing a stool into them. The virus was far more dangerous than the formula.
- + The only sample of Shanti virus that posed any threat whatsoever was Strain 138. That was kept in a hyper-secure vault, which even Peter had difficulty in opening. The vast majority of samples which the Company had were only usable against evolved humans.
- + Induced radioactivity appears to be an extraordinarily rare power, and it is unlikely that the Company had someone possessing it on hand. Second, all Mohinder accomplished by throwing that stool was to spread the liquid samples around. Seeing as Bob Bishop did not run out of the room screaming, those samples were likely non-contagious (or at least only worked if injected).
