Screencaps part 2

If you use the screencap site, click on the picture. A bigger version will pop up, and that's the one that would be best to upload. Also, the one thing I didn't mention earlier is using the screencaps from that site also requires that you remove the website name and watermark from the picture. You can get most by cropping, but after that, ya gotta photoshop, smudge, or somehow finagle the pic. If you can't get it perfectly, that's fine, somebody else will take care of it... But it is a good idea to get the full-size pic. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:04, 9 March 2007 (EST)

  • I'd also add that, if you're using a digital file, either transferred from a DVR or downloaded from a P2P site, I can't endorse a piece of software called Virtual Dub highly enough. It lets you step through the file frame-by-frame, and there are literally dozens of filters available to allow you to do anything from color and gamma correction to resizing and cropping to dewatermarking on the fly. You can even export clips in just about any format, including animated GIFs. It's pretty amazing software, and it's free.--Hardvice (talk) 13:52, 9 March 2007 (EST)
    • Hardvice, you should really get an endorsement package from Virtual Dub. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:33, 9 March 2007 (EST)

Location links on place portals

Hey, Heroe. Just so you know, all the place portals are really cool -- they will link the location if it exists, but will stay black if it doesn't. That way, you can put "Unknown" if you wanted, or a non-linked place (as in the case of Auschwitz, which is in Poland). Adding the links as you did doesn't hurt at all -- I just want to let you know for future reference, so you understand why they're black and not linked. Thanks for all your hard work, as usual! :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:46, 13 March 2007 (EDT)

  • Yeah, I kinda noticed that half-way through editiing. :p Heroe 21:27, 13 March 2007 (EDT)

Little square things

What exactly are you looking for? If you want the bullets, you can either cut and paste this: • or edit this message to cut and paste the escape code I used. Is that what you're looking for? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:57, 14 March 2007 (EDT)

  • Yeah, thanks! Heroe 22:59, 14 March 2007 (EDT)

Non-citations on Theory Pages

Thanks for cleaning these up, but it's probably a better idea to move the information to the third column rather than just deleting it. That way, you aren't getting rid of somebody's contribution--you're just putting it in the proper place.

User:Heroe/Wiki experiments‎ & image stuff

Okay, check it out now. I'm heading to bed in just a few minutes, so if you need anything, let me know now. Also, a few notes about :Image:Stop sign.png and Image:Questionmark.gif ... don't forget to include the source where you got them. Also, it'd be nice if they were the same size, so they don't look all wibbly wobbly on the template. But actually, all the other message templates have two of the same icon. I guess you could do whatever you want, but if you choose to go with just one icon, I suggest the question mark. Finally, the image causes a bunch of whitespace around the question mark in the template--you can avoid this by filling it in with the exact color of the template flag and then reuploading. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:08, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

  • I need help again :\ I was trying to make separate crewnav bars but they got messed up :/ Heroe!(talk) 20:28, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
    • Do you mean separate bars for directors, writers, producers? If so ... ugh. That means some people are going to have four or five navbars. Ick.--Hardvice (talk) 21:02, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
      • Yes.
        • Well, ok. Most of the writers are also producers, so they'll have at least 2 navbars. Some of them are also GN writers, so that's three for them. Beeman's a director and a producer ... he gets two navbars. Tim Kring is in three groups -- three bars for him. The only people who really benefit from this are most of the directors and some of the miscellaneous people. I just am not seeing why this is a good idea.--Hardvice (talk) 21:02, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
          • Well, it looked pretty crowded to me, so I wanted to split it up. But now I'm just thinking oh, screw it! Heroe!(talk) 21:14, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
            • You're right, it is kind of crowded. But that's not really a fault in our design, it's a product of a crew that wears many hats. If everybody fit into one nice little title ("Hi, I'm a director. Produce? Never. Write? That's for losers! And don't get me started on those comic books!"), it would change things around. But since the crew takes on so many responsibilities and because they have been "promoting" their underlings, there's no real way around the issue. Actually, it really helps fill in a some very sparse articles. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:37, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Your theory on Mr. Bennet's name.

Where did you come up with your theory and why do you think that HRG stands for something other than what is known to be true. Tim Kring's original script for the pilot listed this character's name only as "H.R.G." — standing for Horn-Rimmed Glasses. Bennet was also referred to on posting boards as "HRG" before he was given a name.

  • Oh, it's just one of those fun little theories. See the theories for waffles. :) Heroe(talk) 22:15, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Well in that case Mr. Bennet is actually a transexual shape-shifter from the planet Opulon-7 and HRG is a typo his name is supposed to be Hug. It is fun to make up stuff with no valid reasoning.

  • Go ahead and add that if you want. :) Heroe(talk) 22:43, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Good times, noodle salad

Glad you like the quote ... It's from As Good as It Gets -- great underrated Jack Nicholson line. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:59, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

  • Actually, I believe Jack was in character as Melvin Udall when he said it. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:27, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

Hey, Heroe ... Don't forget to add a source for those last three images you uploaded. Thanks! — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:13, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Weird sig

Huh. Whenever I type my sig, it comes out as purple instead of green. Heroe(talk) 11:07, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

  • That's because you don't have your span set up correctly. You have <span style="color=green;">Heroe</span>, and it should be <span style="color:green">Heroe</span> which will result in this: Heroe. All ya gotta do is take out the equal sign and replace it with a colon. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:01, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Superfluous

... is also a favorite of mine. One of my email addresses starts "superfluousjunk". — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:11, 2 April 2007 (EDT)

  • The problem is, you can never use the word "superflous" in a sentence without it seeming superflous. :) Heroe!(talk) 22:02, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
    • Here's it used in a sentence, "The third u in "superfluous" is not superfluous."  ;) (Admin 22:07, 4 April 2007 (EDT))

Spoilers

Spoilers do in fact need to be confined to only spoiler articles. See Help:Spoilers.--Hardvice (talk) 19:28, 12 April 2007 (EDT)

  • But don't we allow information from promos, which are techically spoilers? Heroe!(talk) 20:16, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
    • Right now, the only references to anything not canon are interviews with the writing staff to explain anything that has taken place. I was tempted to leave in a few Kring interview references, but they referred to "future episodes" or "we will see", so I left those out.--Bob 20:18, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
    • No. Still spoilers. Still only belong in spoiler articles. Spoiler articles have their own Fan Theories sections for just this reason.--Hardvice (talk) 20:32, 12 April 2007 (EDT)
    • I don't think any promo info is included on any non-spoiler article--but if it is, it should be removed. That said, people often base their theories on promos and spoilers, and I don't see anything wrong with that, so long as it's not blatantly quoting a spoiler or using a promo as a source. For instance, there's a big difference between saying "Micah will help Mr. Linderman. || None || Linderman might be aware of Micah's power since his mother is already in cahoots with Linderman." and "Micah will help Mr. Linderman. || Micah is seen in a preview talking with Linderman. || Micah has the power to manipulate technology, and Kristin Veitch said that Linderman will need somebody to rig his voting booths." — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:43, 12 April 2007 (EDT)

Parodies

So the red link you have on your user page is "Parodies and References to Heroes in other works". Good idea for a page, though I'm not exactly sure we have enough for one...yet. The "References" shouldn't be capitalized. And actually, if we're going to make the page, it should probably just be "parody" or "parodies", so that it's a bit more user-friendly. But I'd wait until we see a bit more. For instance, Zeroes is a great parody, but really deserves its own page. Just my thoughts. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:01, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

Astounding/Outstanding

What's your objection to the word "astounding" on Melloasjello's page? In any case, I think we're better off leaving other people's user pages as they are, rather than putting words in their mouths.--Hardvice (talk) 23:16, 17 April 2007 (EDT)

  • Sorry, I'm kinda OCD when it comes to proper word useage. <eye twitches> Heroe!(talk) 23:48, 17 April 2007 (EDT)
    • But ... there's nothing wrong with "astounding".--Hardvice (talk) 00:09, 18 April 2007 (EDT)
      • Er, yeah. I'm confused. And a smidge irritated as well, frankly. Melloasjello 11:22, 21 April 2007 (EDT)
        • Right. As I said, editing other people's user pages = not cool. I don't even fix typos (let alone change people's word choice for no apparent reason) on other people's user pages; it's supposed to be their space.--Hardvice (talk) 12:27, 21 April 2007 (EDT)

Timeline article template

It was discussed on the timeline talk page that with the new timeline setup, the timeline article template is obsolete. By putting the section link in the event infobox (plus the fact that you cannot automate the link to a specific part of the timeline), the events don't really need the template.--Bob 11:16, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

  • Oh.... Heroe!(talk) 11:19, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
    • Also, is it currently exists, it links to a non-existent section on the Timeline article...--Hardvice (talk) 13:12, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Category:Heroes Wiki Contributor

I wonder if we're being too liberal in calling people Heroes Wiki Contributors when they're really not. Not that it really matters one way or the other to me since I don't use the category, but I do think that somebody should at least make one contribution to the site before they have that category applied. (See here and here, for instance.) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:22, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Main Page

  • Concerning the Main Page, what specifically appears messed up to you? (Admin 12:18, 28 April 2007 (EDT))
    • Everything appears as red links. Heroe!(talk) 12:19, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
      • What happens when you click on the red links? Do you get the article or does it say the article doesn't exist yet? Does it happen with articles other than the main page and are you able to test it using multiple browsers? (Admin 13:02, 28 April 2007 (EDT))
        • It says the article doesn't exist yet, but it seems to have been fixed now. Heroe!(talk) 13:12, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Heroes as allegory for Hindu myth

I don't know where to post this, so I hope you'll excuse my edit. From the reading I've done both at university and in the four years since, it is clear to me that Heroes is a very specific type of allegory, and Five Years Gone only confirms this for me. A few terms to consider: Rama, Ravana, Navratras, Akashic Records, cosmic involution, Chakra. There are two moments in Five Years Gone which are absolutely convincing for me: first, the fact that Niki Sanders and Peter Petrelli are romantically involved, five years later; second, and most importantly, that when Sylar and Peter Petrelli meet in the hallway at the end of the episode, Sylar invokes Manipur Chakra and Peter Petrelli invokes Svadhistan Chakra to counter it.

On another random Heroes blog, I mentioned that it would be quite useful to attempt to categorize the heroes into sub-classes based on the elemental manifestations of their powers; I'll finish this edit by listing the six Chakras, into which each hero we've seen can be classified:

  • Muladhara: earth element, associated with the number 56
  • Manipur: water element, associated with the number 52
  • Svadhistan: fire element, associated with the number 62
  • Anhata: air element, associated with the number 54
  • Visudhi: ether element (think Hana Gitelman, Micah), associated with the number 72, and
  • Ajna: mind element (think Matt Parkman, The Haitian), associated with the number 64.

The numbers associated with the elements are said to be the number of cosmic 'rays' necessary to cause that element to invoke its cosmic involution. How many rays are there in total? 360. Like a circle. It's the universal sakti -- the number of creation.

Greg Beeman has confirmed at least part of this; it's not some crackpot theory. Lander 18:05, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
