Back at the university, Mohinder and Nirand argue about the veracity of the boy's claims. Saying he's had the conversation before, Mohinder finds himself in another dream. Chandra and Nirand, in the dream, argue about the trip to New York. In the same dream, Mohinder comes to Chandra, saying he read his book and wants to help his father. Chandra rebukes him for this, saying that he doesn't have the "heart of stone" needed for this research. Mohinder offers to make her dinner, but Mira shows him the box of his father's work from the 1960s. Mira says that they have a good life and is disappointed that he hasn't thrown it away. She warns that every time he studies his father's work, it leads to a dark place. Mohinder admits that she might be right and places the box in the garbage.

Later, however, Mohinder gets up to retrieve his father's box and then takes out a spool of film. He plays it and watches his father make an entry from the Coyote Sands Relocation Center on March 5, 1961. Mohinder reads the equations on his father's chalkboard in the film. He assembles a device and then dozes off. In the morning, Mira comes out and wakes him up, angry that Mohinder is doing his father's work again. Mira tells him that if he disappears again, she won't wait for him. As she leaves, Mohinder contemplates the compass.

Trivia

  • In 1996, the city of "Madras" was renamed to "Chennai", thanks to a reform movement in India that is eliminating colonial names in favor of native ones. However, most of the major institutions, including the University of Madras, continue to use the original name.
  • According to Heroes Interactive, some scenes that take place in Chennai (including those from Brother's Keeper) were filmed in Pasadena, California.
