Synopsis
I'm good at writing these, I can cram in as much detail as possible and I've got good literacy skills, If no one will write one (When Season 3 came out they came up every MORNING in the UK literally 3 hours after it finished) but now no one even writes a synopsis until about 6PM (GMT) on the next day. If no one will take the job of writing synopses then I can write one in the morning when I wake up (after a new episode) or one when I get home from college (at around 4:40-5PM GMT). If everyone agrees to a task appointment, I can write the synopses every week (with every bit of detail) and everyone else can fix appropriate links (if required), sort out a few "hang-on" mistakes, etc? I'd like to know a vote for this :D --Arkillion 09:54, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- Are we really going to use colors to show what happens in the past? We've never done this before. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:45, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Sorry if you've never used them before, I've used colour on other wikis to distinguish past, future and alternate timelines from the present (if on the same episode) so people aren't confused. I decided to use it for memory, if there's no argument against it other than "no colour has been used" it's fine.. right? ^^ --Arkillion 12:50, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I've seen other wikis using it, but the thing is, here, we've always managed to show what's memory/alternate timeline/future without using colors, it doesn't feel necessary. I also think that this should be a decision of the community in general. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:52, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- If you want a consensus check regarding this then feel free, I personally (even if it is biased) think anything related to the past or future within a present period should have some sort of definitive tone --Arkillion 12:57, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I personally think it's a useful touch for making it clear where something is taking place. If it's something people like maybe we can formalize the process a little and use it to enhance the synopsis readability when we're working with flashbacks or completely different points in time (e.g. when people travel through time). (Admin 13:07, 24 February 2009 (EST))
- Personally, I don't like it, I think it looks quite tacky. I also think that if we have 'Two Days Ago' in front of the text, it is pretty self-explanatory. I don't think we need to use it if we never have before. --IronyUTC CH 13:17, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I don't oppose it as long as it's properly discussed and the community is ok with it, it can go either way for me, but if we do use it, then I suggest using another color, green doesn't fit the wiki's current color scheme. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 13:19, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Yeah, I would prefer a grey or just making it bold. --IronyUTC CH 13:46, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I don't mind any colour (of course yellow and pink are obviously no-nos) but bold just won't work. I guess Grey will work, I'll change it now and you can review it ;) --Arkillion 14:04, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Bright green? (Why is it that colour, I'm not suggesting it).--IronyUTC CH 14:16, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- There is no definitive colour, the grey or green you see is bright for some reason, the yellow, pink, orange and other colours don't clash well so >_> --Arkillion 14:18, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I don't like the colours, I think it is stupid. --IronyUTC CH 14:24, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I really don't see where the problem is. Arkillion just wanted to get creative. I think either way is good and we shouldn't make a big deal about it.--Alen (talk) 14:36, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- I don't think we should start adding colors to the text of episode synopses. That may be done in other wikis, but it is not our style. I think we should maintain a consistent style that spans all of the episodes. Also, imho, adding the colors makes it more difficult to read. I think if we were willing to change the style of all the episodes, the way to go would be italics.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:19, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- I'm glad that a new format was experimented and that there is some terrific discussion about it. My opinion is that we don't need colors or italics to distinguish past events. I think both look tacky and are quite distracting. I think the way to distinguish between past and present events is the way we have always done it--with text. Saying something like "Matt reads Bennet's mind and learns that he met with Danko. In the past, Bennet pulls out the address of Danko's apartment, and..." is fine. It's more professional and in keeping with the style of the wiki. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:40, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Couldn't have put it better myself. --Milbury 15:46, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- If we choose to alter the style, it should attain consensus before we apply it and not after the fact. In that spirit, I've commented out the colors while we discuss this. Something Admin may want to consider, if he is interested in this, is to add the Call extension, which would allow us to place link options on an episode page to reload the page with the parameters such as 'colors=true' or 'italics=true' which we could then pass to a formatting template to enable readers who want to see colors or italics to see them. My personal opinion is such formatting, whether it be italics or colors, detracts from the page, but using italics is the subtler method.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:03, 24 February 2009 (EST)

HOLY CRAP
Oh man. Up until the last 30 seconds, I thought this was an okay episode, but nothing special really... but DANG! What a twist! It's season one all over again! (though I'm kind of sad they got rid of the original explosion painting) -Sincerely, Thrashmeister » talk- 22:01, 23 February 2009 (EST)

- Interesting, I thought the first half was very boring and talked down to the viewer a little much. oh well.. im still watching! :) -Action Figure 22:19, 23 February 2009 (EST)
- I absolutely agree, Action Figure, this is probably the worst episode ever. 1st, we learned no new information until the reveal that Daphne was still alive. Everything else had been implied, we didn't need to see the conversations. They were talking down to us. 2nd, the cinematography was completely inconsistent, I know they're trying new things, but there were too many new things in one episode. This didn't even look like an episode of Heroes. Where were Matt's swing and tilt lens and SFX? I did like the B&W, perfect for the inside of HRG's head, but did they not notice the Uncle Leo like angry eyebrows they were rocking on HRG by lighting him from below? 3rd, the plot moved forward an inch. Mohinder was given an ultimatum, Noah and Angela are working together and Matt's going to blow up DC. Why hold off all of the new info until the last 5 min. of the show? On the plus side, the acting has never been better.--Mistyjo 05:22, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Just read Beeman's blog. There were budget cuts (obvious from lack of sets and VFX), NBC execs edited the script and took out some nice stuff, and a freshman director this episode. I hope they saved enough money to make next week a great week.--Mistyjo 06:23, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- From what we saw on the floor, either Matt has some pretty powerful explosives, Ando will supercharge Luke (or Sylar if he kills Luke) or we'll get another Ted Sprague. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:01, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- For all we know they may not even be bombs or explosives, they could be scrolls (reminiscent of the scroll Hiro had, of Isaac's ripped painting). Of highly classified information regarding certain evolved humans or even Homeland Security and DC gets blown up to preserve it? Hell I don't know, just a theory :D - And if Ando supercharges Sylar (which won't happen considering Sylar would kill him to begin with and all his powers would amplify, Telekinesis 500 metre slice and that's the kill! Also I do see that the budget must of been cut, all the drama wasn't there, I can't wait for Shades of Gray in two weeks! And I'm thankful that there's an episode every Monday instead of "Two weeks.. VILLAINS" >_>--Arkillion 10:11, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I'm glad there were budget cuts, to be honest. It grounds the show. It focuses the stories on the characters rather than the powers and effects. It also forces the stories to be less sprawling. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:31, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I think budget cuts are good sometimes too, especially in a struggling economy on a struggling network and a show that's struggling with ratings. It forces the writers to be creative. This episode was missing creativity. Who hadn't already figured out that HRG was roped into the gov't mess, Angela was unhappy w/ Nathan's plans, the company was disbanded, and the hunter was out for blood. It was like 45 min. of "Previously on Heroes".--Mistyjo 11:02, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- This episode was great because it really focused on the characters. I think this episode wasn't missing creativity at all. But I hope that the budget problems will be solved so they could mix a fair amount of special effects and character drama so everyone can be satisfied. Btw. I loved the Daphne part!--Alen (talk) 11:54, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I found Daphne's screaming to be a bit.....awkward.. I mean she sounded really REALLY weird. --Arkillion 12:24, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I think it was better than usual screaming. Everybody can scream. But not everyone can act they're in pain. I think the actresses that plays Daphne (Brea, is it?) did a great job! I'm glad she didn't just scream, she showed the pain without hurting our ears, lol. There was something real in that scene.--Alen (talk) 14:21, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Brea Grant did an excellent job, they all did. Just listened to the commentary, seems they were very aware this episode was different from the norm. In fact, they call it a stand alone episode several times. If that's the case, and we're going to start seeing more stand alones (like I believe Kring said would be good for the show), then I forgive them for not moving the plot along. I do think stand alones should be a little more distinct from the serial episodes. I've watched it 3 times now (twice reg. once w/ commentary) and now I'm over the disappointment that it wasn't as great as I thought it would be, It could have been much better, but it was still better than the majority of shows on tv. Also, Chuck lead in and had an especially strong episode, that may have made Heroes seem worse than it was.--Mistyjo 18:28, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- It's very likely that there's another nuclearman out there. Sylar had Ted's power in the exposed future (Ted being long dead, it must have come from someone else). There was someone in the pilot who had the nuclear ability, and it seems there's dead bodies all around Building 26, so it's not impossible that it's one of them. I don't think you could supercharge Luke to make an explosion (it might give X-rays/ultraviolets or widen the range) and it's unlikely Matt kills himself. Or Peter could explode again. That's always fun. As long as somebody kills Danko already. (or Sylar kills another SWAT team. Delicious) Llddz 18:49, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- Sylar also had precognitive painting in that future and was pretty unwilling to use his powers. He didn't want Noah to see them and had to be convinced to simply paint the future. Either he killed someone else with those powers before he had Noah or he simply regained his original copy of them at some point in the future. That future's gone though. Another thing from that future was Ando supposedly killing Hiro, Daphne references that as the reason Hiro can't be dead but that future's been changed so that won't happen that way as Ando supposedly killed him over the Formula which Hiro, Peter and Flint destroyed.--WarGrowlmon18 22:32, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- Not necessarily, in that future people could get powers if the cold afford or steal. Supercharging Luke into radioactivity is something perfectly logical, since microwaves are a form of radiation. Couldn't care less about Danko and his team, as long as they move the plot forwards. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:26, 25 February 2009 (EST)

Noah and Angela
Here's a good question: what are those two up to??? I think they're working to bring down this new program that is capturing evolved humans. Note that several times over the last few episodes when an evolved human got away mostly Noah is around. I think he's secretly doing what he can to help. For example he let Peter go twice when he could have easily killed him each time, he's been protecting Claire and I'm not really sure if he put any real effort into capturing Alex, he almost seemed to get away too easily like Noah was trying to give him a shot secretly, I mean Noah did subtle in his capture attempt and he's more of a taze em sort of guy. That's just not him and obviously Danko and his goon squad don't have any problems tazing people. He even tried to warn them not to go after Danko and to just run and it seemed like he was trying to give them advice. Then Noah escorted Matt out. That seemed a little suspicious to me. I had a feeling he was either going to let Matt go somehow or find a way to help him escape. I was right: Peter did rescue Matt, but notice how Noah was able to look at Peter's trail seconds later when he flew away: if he'd been stunned by that grenade he would have been blinded longer than that. I think he just took the oportunity to let go of Matt so he could get away. He knew Peter would come back if he escaped so he did his best to give him a chance at performing a rescue.--WarGrowlmon18 23:05, 23 February 2009 (EST)
I'm guessing Noah is really a good guy at heart and wants the evolved humans to be protected under a watchful eye during this time. --TrueBlueBrooklynite 00:09, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- I think Noah is just trying to take down Danko, and isn't too afraid of Nathan... Considering Nathan is probably just afraid of people like Baron Samedi, he could be influenced in any way. I thought the fact that he let Peter and Claire go was more because Nathan asked him to; it was like a "thanks for having my back" sort of thing when he didn't fire at Peter when he was sniping. Whatever it is, it's kind of nice to see that Angela/Noah connection. Llddz 18:52, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- I'm not so sure that Nathan wanted Peter to go: he personaly was responsible for his original capture (didn't Peter learn the last time he hugged someone he knew might be bad??? I was screaming to myself "don't be that stupid!!!!!!!) as was Noah. He obviously wants him contained but not dead. He does want Claire free but that's been made clear the whole time. However he obviously doesn't want Peter free although his heart may not trully be in capturing him as he came by himself to Danko's apartment and didn't send a team and repeatedly orders them not to kill Peter. I think Nathan still cares for him and if it comes down to it he may choose to save Peter and the day like he did at the end of season 1 but for now he's against him totally.--WarGrowlmon18 22:27, 25 February 2009 (EST)

How to Stop an Exploding Matt
Did anyone notice how the bomb straps (Now pipe-bombs I assume) or whatever they were attached to him on the painting went from a single "scroll" to multiple ones and then Matt? I didn't even notice they were "bombs" until I saw the explosion on the floor. And anyone understand the explosion on the floor? Any recognizable place? At least Daphne's alive, but I fear he's on the path of evil rather than good. --Arkillion 04:10, 24 February 2009 (EST)

I have to admit that when I saw the painting on the floor I groaned... my boyfriend and I looked at each other and said, people are not gonna like this. I still can't tell if I like the concept or not. Not to mention that the same thing happened in 24 last night... terrorist plot focused in Washington Dc. Oh well... I still heart Matt.--JessicaHeartsMatt 14:42, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Well, with the ammount of throwbacks to season one, this isn't really a surprise, but after this, I hope there are no explosion futures to avoid. Or any future for that matter: Volume One had the NY explosion future, Volume Two had the Shanti virus outbreak future, Volume Three had the exposed formula future, and now we have yet another explosion future. It got old the second time they did it. I hope they don't make another deadly virus future as well. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 14:46, 24 February 2009 (EST)

Earl's motel
Am I mistaken, or did they use the motel from My Name Is Earl to interrogate HRG? --DarrellG 14:19, 24 February 2009 (EST)

Matt's stomach strap
In chapter 3 of the agent, there is a drawing of a container with 9 vials of something... I guess it's the blood of people with abilities that they are testing, and Matt is going to take the vials to protect them.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:56, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Do you think that will be shown in the iStory or in the real series?--Alen (talk) 15:21, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- To be clear, the iStory doesn't conflict with the show--it's an extension of it. But to answer your question, I think we'll likely see Matt taking those vials in an episode of the show.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:08, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- We've found out that they're either: Bombs, Vials or Scrolls (I commented somewhere earlier that they were vials of blood of evolved humans and he gets captured, exposing them --Arkillion 19:31, 24 February 2009 (EST)

Synopsis (cont.)
Hate to be a nagging Nellie, but having a synopsis this disjointed this long since the episode aired is a little unprofessional. --Milbury 15:39, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- Feel free to fix it up. Don't even feel like the entire thing needs to be fixed in one shot, if that feels too daunting. Just do a section at a time. I agree, though, it definitely needs some TLC. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:15, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- It's better than anything any of you could be bothered to do considering none of you even bothered to write one for over a day, until I bothered to right your laziness. And what's funny is that I live in the UK and I went from Sleep -> College -> Home and there was still nothing. I also explained that I'd include as much detail as possible with nearly every scene implemented in the synopsis so that everyone could contribute over the week and slowly perfect it, but unless you want another first-person perspective from Christophek, do it yourself? --Arkillion 19:31, 24 February 2009 (EST)

Peter
Badass or just becoming fanatical? Discuss.--anguard 18:04, 24 February 2009 (EST)

- I think it's a not-so-subtle reminder of the future versions of Peter we've seen already. --Milbury 19:08, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- Peter is simultaneously fighting on the side of inalienable rights for all people, and living proof that unrestrained, these powers can cause more harm than good. Shooting the guy in the arm was really the only response he had after 'Hunter' literally put the barrell to his forehead. Peter had to call the guy's bluff and show his cards. However, it essentially means Hunter is right. Yes, Matt, Mohinder, and Peter have been pushed towards violence. It's not their fault. Ho::wever, they chose to respond to violence with vilence. So it is their fault. And the snake once again swallows its own tail. - ZachsMind 21:33, 24 February 2009 (EST)

Save Matt Parkman?
Remember that message from Rebel? How could Hiro save Matt and from what?--Themd 20:32, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- I think it may have been a warning about his capture in this episode or his future actions with the bombs. By the way I thought he'd said "this is why I don't want to paint the future" when according to other people its "this is why they want me to paint the future" or something like that.--WarGrowlmon18 20:58, 24 February 2009 (EST)
- maybe is matts son with janice--Cj31094 15:56, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- I can safely assume Rebel is not a precog (come on, typing that fast? Libertad? This screams Richard Drucker) so it might be that there was a planned attack on Matt Parkman. Or maybe Cj31094 is on to something and it's about Matt's "son" (is he actually his?) with Janice. The locations aren't really described, so it's hard to tell. Llddz 19:00, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- Drucker was also deleted, they better have a damn good explanation if it's him. And if they do it they better bring Hana back, I liked her. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:26, 25 February 2009 (EST)

Was that Appartment #9 Parkman Sr's appartment? (I didn't watch Seasons 1&2, diving straight into 3). Or is it just a Heroesque coincidence? Llddz 19:01, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- Maury Parkman's apartment is number 9. So is Danko's apartment. They're not the same apartment (or set) though. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:12, 25 February 2009 (EST)
more Company Man Paralells
Dunno if they're worth Putting on the page, but here are some more parallels between Cold Wars, episode 317, to Comapny Man, episode 117: Noah under duress at Matt's hand for a 2nd time, Black and white flashbacks. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:29, 26 February 2009 (EST)

- I think the biggest similarity (which is unusual for Heroes) is that it really focuses on one story only. Sure, a number of characters are involved, but it's just one storyline. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:08, 26 February 2009 (EST)
Ratings?
Alright, did Heroes get the lowest ratings we've ever had? That really stinks considering I liked the episode. (But from what I gathered from the discussions above, obviously, many fans did not.) Come on, Mohinder was in practically every scene. It was like the Mohinder show! Not to mention he got the sympathy vote at the end. They should do a Mohinder spin off. That would rock. --Mohinder613 (my talk page) 13:13, 26 February 2009 (EST)
- Well, this wasn't the worst episode I've ever seen, but it wasn't that great, IMHO. And, I'm afraid not all fans share your love for Mohinder. :)--Cro Magnon 13:42, 26 February 2009 (EST)
- There are two types of Heroes fans. Some watch it because of the abilities and the special effects and the others watch it because of the character drama and drama in general (emotions, connections...). This episode suits the second description which I personally love. Some people found this episode a bit boring just because there was less special effects and "adrenaline" produced by the abilities. I loved this episode because it put characters in the central position. I hope ratings after this episode will get better.--Alen (talk) 14:30, 26 February 2009 (EST)
- I watch it for both, I love the special effects, they really pull me in. However, my attention won't be held long without a deep character development. One thing that makes Heroes such a success, is that it balances effects with character development fairly well, only a few slips here and there.Dracomaster4 23:41, 26 February 2009 (EST)
- Alen, I think thats a very easy thing to say, but the entire reason this episode was awful was because it had no plot advancement, character development, or believable emotional drama. The first thirty minutes was the episode telling me things I already gathered from the first three episodes as if I were stupid. Simply attempting to do another "Company Man" isnt enough to make a good episode. The reason that episode was good was because of substance and emotion. It was an incredible show because of that... not because of mental interrogations and black and white photography. I honestly dont care if an episode goes by with NO special effects. I just want a good story. This was filler. When the season ends, you'll see we could have gone without this episode almost entirely.--Action Figure 00:57, 27 February 2009 (EST)
- Exactly! I love Heroes because of the story telling. Sylar kicking butt isn't cool because he's using his powers, it's because he's angry and who doesn't love angry Sylar or angry Peter? This episode was like listening to some boring person telling us about their day after we were with them the whole time. This episode had so much potential! I wish I was on staff.--Mistyjo 10:48, 27 February 2009 (EST)

- I'm a very big sci-fi geek, and so I suppose I love the special effects, but I believe that Heroes is such a success because of its neutral take on being special, and character driven stories. That's what I fell in love with in the first place. This episode was a change of pace, and yes, it was slow compared to some episodes, however, there has yet to be a Heroes episode that I dislike. This episode didn't reveal anything much and I suppose some of the plot seem jammed, but I liked the little things... like the tension and emotion between the characters. I love to see how far some of them have come, and the relationships that they share with one another. But I understand how other fans have different opinions. I just wish more people watched the show. (And again, they should do a Mohinder spinoff) --Mohinder613 (my talk page) 16:17, 27 February 2009 (EST)
- I enjoy Heroes because I like seeing on how the world acts towards "superheroes" before they were common. Such as normal comicbooks where Superheroes are a fact of everyday life.--

The Motel
I know it's not mentioned in dialogue at all, but was there ever a camera shot of the sign? I have yet to find one. I think it's a safe bet that it's not the same hotel at which Noah is staying. I hope one of you found one... It kinda bugs me that most of the episode takes place here and it's never named! Product Placement 14:29, 1 March 2009 (EST)
- No name is ever given. We know part of the address from a sign that is briefly seen when Danko's men storm the place. We also know that the name of the place is "<something> Tree Inn" since that's the name that's seen at the top of the stationary that Matt gives Peter (see Talk:Costa Verde motel#Name). But no, we don't know the name of the motel, and we don't know if it's where Noah is staying. In fact, we don't even know if Noah has actually checked in anywhere yet, though it seems unlikely that he would go to a bar at a random hotel and not the one at which he's residing. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:35, 1 March 2009 (EST)
One of the greats
Out of Geneisis, Homecoming and Unexpected were my faveroute episodes. Out of season two: Four months ago and Powerless. Villians: the first four in the volume, and in Fugitives: Trust and Blood, then this one. This was the sort of episode that made the original 14 millions viewers love the show. this had the perfect balance of memoral moments, intersting and original story telling and the shiznit that made the show amazing. Why would anyone dislike? Because people are never happy with anything, and can't tell when something good happens. I wonder if that's why so many preteen pains in the ass love the Twilight books, any thoughts?
