Interview

Hey all. Joe Tolerico is the producer/project manager for the Heroes Evolutions content. He recently said, "January is a big month for us. A couple of heroes finally get together. And they're making some plans to take down the Company." Very exciting. Regarding the hiatus, he said, "Our goal right now, in the situation we're in, is to bridge the gap between Volume 2 and Volume 3. We're not working without a net. We are working with the show; it's all show-approved." Joe is a senior producer for NBC (he also works on the Deal or No Deal sites), so he will have to run all questions and answers by NBC's legal department for approval. I plan to send the questions to Joe tomorrow, so we'll have to move on this one. Submit questions below. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:31, 2 January 2008 (EST)

  • I just went to email Joe the questions, and I saw that I had received an email from the press person at NBC Digital Entertainment. He wants to talk to me, but he didn't say what about specifically. I can only hope it's good. Anyway, I'm holding off in sending the questions to Joe, and I'll update as soon as I talk to the press person (yes, that's literally how he introduced himself). Probably tomorrow. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:55, 3 January 2008 (EST)
    • If he's the press person that's probably not a bad thing. Legal is the one that could be either good or bad. :) Though from what I've been told NBC "gets" the dedication of the fan base and doesn't resort to the knee jerk legal threats that I've seen in the past. If they ask any complicated questions, Ryan, feel free to conference me in. (Admin 23:01, 3 January 2008 (EST))
      • Thanks, Admin--I appreciate that. I was confused why he didn't just ask what he wanted to ask in his email, but I also figure if it were bad (like disallowing an interview) he would have just said so. But I'll be happy to have a contact or two at NBC. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:09, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • I'm sending interview questions so submissions should be considered closed. Thanks everybody! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:24, 5 January 2008 (EST)
    • Joe got the questions and "will be in touch". I imagine he has to run everything through NBC, so it might be a little longer on the turnaround, but that's okay. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:00, 7 January 2008 (EST)
      • The press guy also contacted me tonight, told me he received Joe's questions, and assured me that they'd get the questions back in a timely manner. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:49, 7 January 2008 (EST)
        • I just got an email from Joe. He said the interview is in review and as soon as he gets it approved he'll send it back to me. He's also sending some photos with the interview, but didn't give any specifics. Hmmm. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:37, 15 January 2008 (EST)

Questions for Joe

  • As producer and project manager of Heroes Evolutions, what exactly is your role?
  • What kind of experience do you have with producing other online content?
  • Who is responsible for the Heroes Evolutions content? Is it a select group of writers, or are there many people who work together on the content?
  • When storylines are stretched over an extended period of time (e.g. Richard Drucker, Linderman's voting tampering), how is it decided which story points will be released when?
  • How is the Heroes Evolutions content coordinated with other aspects of Heroes? For instance, the content sometimes pops up in the graphic novels and the episodes.
  • Are there plans to resurrect Hiro's blog or Claire's MySpace page?
    • One thing that becomes very difficult in websites that change constantly is that previous information can no longer be accessed. I know that Mohinder's office and the Bridget Bailey emails were done separately, but if NBC.com had not been updated with what is now called Suresh's Loft, the information on Heroeswiki.com would be incomplete. Also, taking a look at something like Votepetrelli.com, this site has many empty links after Nathan stepped down. Fans that have missed this information and that are trying to catch up would probably be disappointed that they missed out on some of this stuff. Is there any hope for an official archive of older pages? ---Heroes360 17:08, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • How are actors cast for Evolutions roles? For instance, Brian (from brianundaunted), the Global News Interactive team, the experts on Sword Saint, the experts on activatingevolution.org--are they found through Jason La Padura, or by some other means?
  • Who are the actors who portray those roles?
  • How are games and riddles constructed? For instance, Hiro's blog featured a very detailed crossword puzzle, and Richard Drucker recently sent a postcard with very complex code. Who writes these puzzles?
  • What can you tell us about what to expect in the future from Heroes Evolutions?
    • Heroes Evolutions is probably my favorite thing in my life right now. I love that Heroes spans television, comics, the internet, cell phones, email, and recently, novels. What other forms are being thought of currently? Are there good odds for more of what we have now (i.e. new websites or new novels)? ---Heroes360 17:08, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • Why was the name of the online Heroes content changed from Heroes 360 to Heroes Evolutions? Are there plans to change the name each season? Do you still refer to Season One's online content as Heroes 360 or is it all considered Heroes Evolutions now?
  • Any chance we could become the "Heroes Wiki" linked off the Heroes NBC website or at least added to the "Fan Sites" section? Ever since the inception of Heroes Wiki we've looked forward to the day when we might get the attention of NBC and be able to help out. (This would be an awesome chance to establish a relationship with NBC, though if you're uncomfortable asking such a thing I'd understand) (Admin 00:46, 3 January 2008 (EST))
    • I do feel a little uncomfortable asking Joe at this time, but maybe after the interview, I probably would feel a bit more ready to ask him. By the way, Joe says, "Hey Ryan, I love your site!" That's good news... :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:19, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • So, Joe, we've met Sylar. We've met Mr. Linderman. We've met Takezo Kensei. When will we meet "The Banker?" (Deal or No Deal reference) (Admin 00:50, 3 January 2008 (EST))
  • We'd like to setup an information page on you on the Heroes Wiki. If that's alright with you, could you give us some background on how you got started in "the biz" and any other projects you've worked on or will be working on in the future? Also, do you have a photo we could use? (Admin 00:56, 3 January 2008 (EST))
  • Heroes has been almost unprecedented in its use of alternate media (i.e. Heroes Evolutions) to help further the plot of the show. From graphic novels, to websites, to text messages it's genuinely reached out to the Heroes audience to go above and beyond simply presenting its story via television. Entire fan websites have been devoted to discussing and analyzing the Heroes Evolutions content. Did you have any idea when first starting that the experience would grow to this point or did you see it as a minor project that would casually compliment the show? (Admin 01:07, 3 January 2008 (EST))
  • One question: Windows or Linux? ( I hope he says Linux :) ) (Admin 01:25, 3 January 2008 (EST))
  • Can you give anymore clues surrounding Angela and Kaitos powers, or any other member of the twelve ---Ashwilson12 07:59, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • Heroes Evolutions introduced many new and interesting characters like Sparrow Redhouse and Richard Drucker. Will they eventually appear in the episodes? 09:16, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • Will Bridget Bailey continue to have a role in the Heroes Evolutions content? - Goldenboy 13:22, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • To add onto Chris's question, will we be seeing anymore of Sparrow Redhouse in Heroes Evolution? Are there any plans to continue Bridget's adventures? In the show? Jason Garrick 16:16, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • This is sort of a lump of Chris and Jason's question: Which characters are you planning on furthering in the next season and do you have any plans to include them into the main storyline? Therequiembellishere 17:34, 3 January 2008 (EST)
  • According to the commentary for Powerless, the virus was going to be released near the end of the episode, but the ending was reshot due to the writer's strike. Is there anything that you can tell us about how Heroes Evolutions was planned to tie into this before the storyline was changed? Conduit 19:49, 3 January 2008 (EST)

Next time

Just a note that according to Current events, the cutoff for questions was last night. If you have additional questions, please list them below and they may be asked in a followup interview.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:59, 4 January 2008 (EST)

  • Thanks, Miami. I'm not sure there will be a second time since Joe said he's really busy and but would be able to squeeze in an interview. And now I'm just waiting to hear back from the press guy at NBC, so it might be awhile. If anybody has any more questions, please post them here. I'll announce when I send them and that should be considered the official deadline. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:22, 4 January 2008 (EST)
    • Ok, cool, even better. BTW, is there a cutoff time for questions regarding Chuck's interview?--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:26, 4 January 2008 (EST)
      • Assuming we talk tonight at 9 pm EST, well, then 9 pm EST is the cutoff. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:34, 4 January 2008 (EST)
  • Any chance of getting an interview with Tim Kring? that would be the best day of my life Martinpetrelli94321 13:00, 5 January 2008 (EST)
    • You're telling me! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:24, 5 January 2008 (EST)
    • Going right for the big guy, eh? :) I think eventually it could happen, though if Ryan ever did get an interview with Tim I'm hoping we could come up with some really good questions. A lot of the interviews with Tim ask a lot of the same questions. (Admin 14:09, 5 January 2008 (EST))
      • I think that goes for any of the major actors too, though Ryan did a standup job interviewing James Kyson Lee (Ando), I think some of the questions we asked were repeats of questions asked already by other sites. It is tougher to come up with original questions for the stars of the show since they get interviewed so often, but it is indeed cool to have the opportunity.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:15, 5 January 2008 (EST)
        • I'm not a fan of interviewing actors (or reading interviews with actors) since a lot of the questions are the same, and I really don't even know what to say in the first place. I'd much rather talk to the minds that create than the talent that we see bring the show to life. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:24, 5 January 2008 (EST)
            • I hear Cristine Rose is a great interview. Very fun! And has a lot of inside on her character. But, hey -- if you don't want to interview her, I'll do it. :) --Nonredhead 21:07, 6 January 2008 (EST)
              • I'm not opposed to interviewing actors, they're just not interviews that I pursue. That said, if you have Cristine Rose's contact information and would like to interview her, feel free--I'd love to hear what she has to say (in the past, interviews with her have been very enlightening). If you don't want to do the interview, you can pass her contact info along to me at ryangibsonstewart at heroeswiki.com. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:19, 6 January 2008 (EST)
    • HA! No, I don't have her contact info. But, I'm sure she's very easy to get a hold of through her manager or agent(since she's just a working actor and not some huge star), that being said if I ever get the chance to ask you questions I'll be more then happy to pass the answers along. I'd love to interview if I got the chance:) Looking forward to reading your interviews with Joe and Chuck. I didn't miss them, right? I don't see them so I assume they aren't up. Or am I wiki impaired?--Nonredhead 09:21, 7 January 2008 (EST)
      • Chuck's interview is mostly up now if you want to read it at Interview:Chuck Kim. There's just a tad more that Ryan hasn't gotten to transcribing yet.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:22, 7 January 2008 (EST)
        • Right, I should be done with Chuck's interview either this afternoon or more than likely sometime this evening. (It takes me so long to transcribe!) I sent my questions to Joe over the weekend, but the answers won't come back for awhile because he has to run his responses by NBC first. There's a few other issues which might hold things up, but if all goes as planned, Joe's interview will probably be posted within a week or two. I'm also interviewing Nate Goodman tonight at 8:15 EST. You can submit your questions at this link. I'll probably start transcribing that one tomorrow. I doubt it will take as long as Chuck's, though, because I don't think Nate and I will talk for an hour. Probably more like twenty minutes. I'll keep y'all updated. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:26, 7 January 2008 (EST)
      • HA! I actually found Cristine's agents info, if you really do want it. I understand if you don't. Some people just love the behind the scenes stuff better. I love both. Let me know if you want it. I think you'd have a better chance for an interview since your affiliated with something. Adam Armus and Kay Foster is exciting. I look forward to it.--Nonredhead 13:13, 11 January 2008 (EST)
        • Are you kidding--I would love to interview Cristine Rose! Actor interviews are not ones I pursue, but I certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity. Plus, of all the actors, Cristine Rose is one of the few that I think really adds a lot of insight to the show in the interviews of hers that I have read. You can send me her agent's info at ryangibsonstewart at heroeswiki dot com. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:53, 11 January 2008 (EST)
  • I don't know if there'll be a next time, but here's a few questions that I think are relevant now:
  1. Last season, you mentioned that NBC and the executive producers review the Heroes Evolutions content. Is that still the case?
  2. Are the reviews happening for each new page addition or just for the framework of each new site? Do you know if the editors of the show (Donn Aron, Scott Boyd, Jon Koslowsky) get to review the Evolutions content as well?
  3. Is the process of review for Primatech Assignment Tracker entries any different than for other Evolutions content? Will we be seeing a separate research knowledge database of characters and their abilities from Pinehearst?
    • I don't know about future plans for Pinehearst, but I know AT 2.0 profiles get submitted and then get reviewed by the writing staff. They are edited and discussed a lot. I don't know more details than that. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:50, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
  • Ryan, maybe you already know the answers to some of these questions?--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:09, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
    • Some, not all. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:50, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
      • Thanks, hopefully we'll be able to learn more eventually. Have you been able to get in touch with Aron, Boyd or Koslowsky?--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:59, 23 October 2008 (EDT)

Images

Joe sent me a ton of images. Most of them we already have on the site (like this and this). I'll use some to illustrate the interview, though I don't think there will be too many new ones... In the meantime, if anybody would like to add some pictures, please feel free. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:12, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Digg

Does somebody want to add a Digg entry for this? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:13, 19 January 2008 (EST)
