Ability Examples & Images

For those monitoring this page, if you can come up with any other examples of ability development please tell me and I will add it. Also, if you have any images I can use I would really appreciate it (I'm also looking for a better lead image)'--Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 02:27, 22 February 2009 (EST)

Modifications

I took the liberty of making some modifications, hope that you dont mind. I see Mainspace potential for this page! --SacValleyDweller (talk) 03:21, 22 February 2009 (EST)

  • Thanks for that. I'm glad you like the page. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 03:28, 22 February 2009 (EST)

SVD, a quick question. What pages link to 'list of abilities'? A couple days ago I tried redirecting 'ability' from the search bar to my ability (disambig) page but you undid the change. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 23:16, 25 February 2009 (EST)

  • See here. Looks like there are 205 links. No, wait, now there's 206. :) The list of abilities is a better page for ability to link to anyway--it almost always refers to one of the abilities on that page, and not something from the disambig page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:24, 25 February 2009 (EST)

Comments

If anybody wants to comment on my page, fell free to do so. It would be good to get some feedback. I'm hoping this page can go to mainspace. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 05:48, 27 February 2009 (EST)

  • I think all that's missing is consistently having initial limits on all the abilities and citing when the development of the ability took place (and maybe a cite on the initial state of the ability, too), and it would be ready for the mainspace! --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:47, 28 February 2009 (EST)
    • Thanks for the feedback; i'll make those corrections. Also, do you think 'mental manipulation' and 'poison emission' belong on this page? I'm not completely sure. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 02:09, 28 February 2009 (EST)
      • The revisions are done. Any other comments? (from anyone?) --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 02:14, 2 March 2009 (EST)
        • Cite the initial limits with when the ability first appeared in it's weakest state, and cite the images in the gallery, and it will be perfect. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:34, 2 March 2009 (EST)

If there is no more discussion on this page then I will move it to mainspace. -- Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 00:13, 6 March 2009 (EST)

  • I think the page looks good. There are a few very minor stylistic things that need to be edited ("evolved humans" shouldn't be capitalized, the "Graphic Novel" prefix doesn't need to be included in cites, numerals should be spelled out) but overall the page looks very good. However, when we're talking about development of abilities, it tends to lead towards speculation. I'm not at all opposed to this article being put in the main namespace, but I think it would be better off as a fan creation, much like the article about ability homology is a fan creation. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:27, 7 March 2009 (EST)
    • I hope that eventually this page will go to mainspace. I tried to stick to clear examples of ability development that we have seen (my only concern is poison emission, but I kept it seeing as she needed another ability to deactivate it first) to avoid speculation and ability development has been referred to in main canon and by the writers, so it's not as much a fan-made thing as ability homology. I'll leave it as a sub-page for the moment and hopefully I can get more support for a mainspace place in the future. -- Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 23:58, 7 March 2009 (EST)
      • I think it's ready to go in the main namespace now. But if you want to see what others think of it first, that's fine. See what others think about whether it should or shouldn't be labeled with the fan creation flag. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:01, 8 March 2009 (EDT)
  • Great page, I think it should go in the main space, don't mind if it has the fan creation flag. :) --posted by Laughingdevilboy

  • Hey mate, just congratulating you on a great page and for finally getting it moved into the main namespace.--Steely McBeam - (talk) 11:11, 11 March 2009 (EDT)

Hi

Was looking at your page and thought you could add a few things, like how some control their ability i.e. Elle being able sharp shoot her electricity or the fact Meredith only seemed to produce small balls of fire in her hand and went onto producing torrents of flame (even if pumped full of adrenaline). --posted by Laughingdevilboy Talk 14:37, 8 March 2009 (EDT)

  • They are good ideas but this page is more about the extra things that can be achieved with the abilities rather than controlling them better. -- Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 01:14, 9 March 2009 (EDT)

Adding to Power Template

I'm not sure how to add this page to the template. Help? -- Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 01:41, 11 March 2009 (EDT)

healing

I'd recon that rapid cell regeneration has up-graded because Clair used to be able to feel pain and now she can't.

  • That's not really development as she didn't mean for it to happen. Also, as a passive ability it can't be developed by the holder. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 02:34, 16 March 2009 (EDT)
    • In Adam, the ability developed to the point where he was immortal. Angela even explained it as a side effect of rapid cell production. Does that count?--ERROR 11:41, 27 September 2011 (EDT)
      • No. Claire has the same thing. She just hasn't lived long enough for us to see her immortality the way we saw Adam's. It's not really a development of the ability. It's a facet that's always been there, but we haven't had time (like 400 years) to see its full effects. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:17, 28 September 2011 (EDT)

Picture under Modifcations

That looks more like when Peter destroyed the Shanti Virus. Peter never held Nathan's hand like that to copy the power. He basicaly tackled him the first time, the second time he touched his shoulder and the third time he hugged him. -- WarGrowlmon18 21:57, 26 March 2009

  • I did some editing in the time you looked at the page. The image is gone now. But you're right, the image was not an example of anything written on the page... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:23, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

Empathic mimicry

I think you've missed a step on Peter's power, it should go

  • Have a power around others
  • Have a power whilst thinking of them
  • Forgot people but could still use their power
  • Lost his power
  • Gained synthetic power, only one power at a time by contact
    • Yes... yet the description says that Peter had to think of the orginal source of the power when he only really did from the first season... --Master Dave 02:37, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

Shape shifting image

I'm not sure if I should use:

for the shape shifting image. Thoughts? --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 02:25, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

  • I don't care much for the lighting in the first one, it makes it hard to notice. The other one is too good haha. Try to use one from when Sylar went through all his forms when he shook Peter's hand. --OutbackZack 02:59, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

"Undevelopable abilities"

The Notes section claims that there are three abilities that are "undevelopable": Rapid cell regeneration, Space-time manipulation and Flight. But all three develop:

He started with simple things, like making a second-hand arm to go back. He then learned how to teleport in time and space.

  • Flight: On West's first time, he only floated. Developing his abilities, he can fly high. Nathan can fly high and fast. Maybe developing them more, they can fly on space.

What abilities may really be undevelopable:

  • Wall crawling: We only saw it once, maybe it never was worst, maybe it was.
  • Acidic blood: Does the acidity of the blood raises?
  • Alejandro's ability: He was only shown to resist and reverse Maya's ability. Maybe he can reverse others, maybe he can't.
  • Aura absorption: Is killing animals anyhow less developed than killing humans?

...and many other, those were the first ones I thought. Mateussf 21:37, 3 June 2009 (EDT)

      • To be honest, I don't think the page really needs that section. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 03:47, 4 June 2009 (EDT)

Event or power?

The power allows the user to develop one's ability. The page isn't about a given ability, but about what happens with abilities. I say event. Mateussf 16:00, 5 June 2009 (EDT)

  • I gave it an ability infobox because all the related articles (Ability extention, ability immunity, etc) have ability infoboxes. Also, if you still want to keep trying to change it maybe you should ask what other people think first. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 02:19, 7 June 2009 (EDT)

Just a suggestion:

On this page (ability development) it clearly says that Tracy Strauss went on to develop water mimicry. The why hasn't her name been added to the Water Mimicry page ? She has the ability to mimic water.

  • People don't have more than one core ability, her water mimicry is ability homology. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 18:00, 15 January 2010 (EST)
    • I am positively sure that i've asked this before, but i just can't remember the answer every time i ask it; how do we know that we can only have one ability per person? --mc_hammark 18:02, 15 January 2010 (EST)

Does poison emission really belong here?

Maya's ability didn't change, she just learned how to turn it off. And if it does belong here, why isn't precognition in this article? Issac learned how to use it without heroin. Learning how to deactivate your ability and learning how to activate it without the help of drugs aren't that different.--ERROR 11:48, 27 September 2011 (EDT)

  • This page doesn't list abilities that have developed, but users who have developed their abilities. It's a fine distinction. I updated the lead description of the page so it reflects that. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:15, 28 September 2011 (EDT)

Space and Time development

Hiro is able to unfreeze certain individuals, while, freezing time. --Masterofgravity (talk) 07:21, 23 October 2015 (EDT)

Umbrakinesis development

Phoebe is able to negate abilites --Masterofgravity (talk) 07:26, 23 October 2015 (EDT)

You're right. I'll add that now. -Kon (talk) 13:36, 23 October 2015 (EDT)
