Source/Explanation
"Dream manipulation" is explicitly named in Sanjog's tip in the Assignment Tracker Map.

I'm not really sure that "Dream Manipulation" is a good name for this ability. Consider that (1) the dream is never really manipulated - ie, nothing is changed in it. Mohinder simply watches it as though it were playing on a television; and (2) two of the times this ability is used, Mohinder experiences events that he was never there for to begin with (nor was the boy for that matter)--(Yoshie 10:52, 8 December 2006 (EST))

  • I would have to believe that if Mohinder dozed off at his desk, he would not have dreamed the scene between his parents. Therefore, I think his dream was "manipulated" by Sanjog to view a scene that he was not privy to when it first happened. After they watched the scene, Mohinder then intereacts with Sanjog via the soccer ball. I wouldn't call it Lucid Dreaming, because Mohinder doesn't appear to be aware that he is dreaming during the dream, nor does Mohinder really control the path of the dream. You are right, it is as if it is a replay, but I don't know what I could suggest in its place, other than the generic "manipulation". --Orne 10:59, 8 December 2006 (EST)
  • Yeah, I have no alternate name right now either. It almost feels to me like the boy is able to allow people to view the actual past from a different point of view. There is also the scene where Mohinder is supposed to meet the "real" version of the boy, but I honestly could not say if that was him, due to the way he is able to slip Mohinder in and out of the dream state so smoothly.--(Yoshie 11:20, 8 December 2006 (EST))
  • Though "dream manipulation" is technically accurate, something more specific would be appropriate. How about "Dream manifestation", or "Dream control", or "Dream materialization"? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:16, 8 December 2006 (EST)
  • One problem with those names is that, if Sanjog's word can be taken as truth, people come to him. That suggests that he is not fully in control of the dreams. Can he only enter someone's dreams if he is invited? Can he make them dream something they wouldn't want to? I'd second Admin's suggestion and say stick with dream manipulation until the show gives another name or more information is given about his ability. (Jared 18:42, 8 December 2006 (EST))
  • I would recommend just sticking with Dream manipulation for now unless we're given another name for it in show. He is, afterall, manipulating Mohinder's dreams. (Admin 18:31, 8 December 2006 (EST))
  • I know this is geekie in a 'Hiro' kind of way, but What if we gave homage to Jagang (reminds me of Sanjong) from the Terry Goodkind Novels, and call the power a 'Dream Walker'? --(HiroDynoSlayer-talk 9:36, 31 January 2007 (EST))
  • On a more important note, I would like to see us create a 'dream-list' that tells which episodes Sanjong has 'dream walked' in, and a short summary of what the dream sequence contained. I believe this too, would be a good reference page. I haven't seen anything like that in here, and would be willing to try to gather up the info, if you guys think it would be worth having. --(HiroDynoSlayer-talk 9:39, 31 January 2007 (EST))
  • I think "dream walker" describes a person, not a power. And I'm not really sure it describes Sanjog very well. What, does he walk through dreams? That doesn't make too much sense. I've seen the name bandied around on the forums, and I never really "got" it. "Manipulation" is not the best description either, but I think it's better than "walker".

As for a list of dreams, I think the examples section does a fairly good job of covering the info, coupled with the info in the episode pages. But if you want to expand the examples a bit, go ahead and take a stab at it. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:02, 31 January 2007 (EST)

  • It's ridiculously easy to create a new page (just type in something in the search box, and if it doesn't exist, create it). Out of kindness to others, try to make the name intuitive (like List of dream interactions... or some such), then link it back to similar articles by adding categories (such as Category: Powers, or Category: Lists) --Orne 11:47, 31 January 2007 (EST)
  • I agree that "dream walker" describes a person, not a power, and isn't very clear. As for "dream manipulation", I've never much liked it ... while it's nice and open-ended, it really doesn't tell much about how the power works. Unfortunately, the only term used on-screen is even less helpful -- "spirit guide", which doesn't even mention dreams and to me at least conjures up images of smoke lodges and vision quests.--Hardvice (talk) 12:34, 31 January 2007 (EST)
  • I suppose we could change it to something like "spirit guiding", although, personally, I've never really seen it as dream manipulation and more as post-cognition. Heroe!(talk) 10:29, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
  • I'm not sure there's any guiding of the spirit going on--at least it's never mentioned in the episodes. What is mentioned is that Mohinder was dreaming. That, coupled with all the dream and sleep research in Sanjog's file, probably means we should mention dreaming in the name of the power. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:02, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Agreed. Based on the little we know about the power, "dream" or "dreaming" really needs to make the cut; it's about the only thing we know for sure. "Spirit guide" kind of implies some sort of spiritual or astral involvement, which we don't know occurs. I think Mohinder uses the term more as an analogy to what Sanjog does (acting like a classic spirit guide in a vision quest) rather than a literal description of his ability. "Guided dreaming" or "Dream guidance" are possibilities, I suppose, but neither really sounds like a superpower as much as they sound like a chapter in the sort of book which permanently smells of patchouli and sandalwood.--Hardvice (talk) 12:29, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Retrognitive Dream Induction

"Retrocognition" is the parapsychological phenomenon of seeing the past. Why can't this be the name of the ability? I know the ability has not been discussed for years now but I really am intrigued by this ability. He makes people "see" the past significant to their own lives--Realistic

  • The name "dream manipulation" is used in Sanjog's assignment tracker, although your name is great, we should use the names from canon sources. AltesUTC CH 05:51, 12 January 2010 (EST)
