Talk:Portal:Recurring Characters/Season Three
Will vs Tuko
- How did we decide Will is a recurring character but Tuko is a minor character? Is it just based on the fact that Dominic Keating is a fairly big-name actor, or what?--Hardvice (talk) 00:09, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
- It was probably based on the Variety article that I believe we first found out from. (Admin 00:21, 5 October 2007 (EDT))
- That's cool. I'm just trying to figure out what to do with Tuko. Right now, he's a recurring character in the navbar and a minor character in the portals.--Hardvice (talk) 00:37, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
- I think I added it pretty arbitrarily based on how often well-known Dominic Keating and Adetokumboh M'Cormack are. There really was no rhyme or reason, and I am not opposed to moving them around at all. (Martha should stay as a minor character, though.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:26, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

Recurring Characters
- About these characters, i think Adam, Doyle, Knox are Recurring Characters. Arthur and Maury too. The others (Elle,Lyle,The German(because he's dead), Jesse(because he's dead)) should be moved to Minor Characters. Does anyone agree with this matter? --Futurepeter 15:52, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
- I disagree, on some of them anyway. Lyle has been recurring for the past 2 seasons. The German has been featured in two episodes, in photos, since his death. I say the best thing to do for now would just be to leave the portal alone and wait and see ... --LeoChris 18:46, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
- That's ok, i just wanted to know how people thought about it. Thanks for the reply. --Futurepeter 01:36, 16 October 2008 (EDT)

Characters
The German has had a bigger role than Adam Monroe this season, he appeared in a two part graphic novel and in some form 3 or 4 episodes of the season. He is definitely not at the same level as a guest.--Skywalkerrbf 17:22, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
- Hana Gitelman had a much bigger role than the German. So did Gael Cruz. It's not about the role they had--that would necessitate us inserting our personal judgments about a particular character's role. It's about how many episodes the character appeared in. See Heroes Wiki talk:Community Portal#About characters? It's a big discussion, but it basically boils down to the need for a character's designation as a recurring or minor character to be based on the number of times he or she appears. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:46, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
Hooray!
Finally there is some proper guidelines regarding how HW regards the characters and actors! Great work on RGS' part! Thanx! : --Pierre 20:26, 23 October 2008 (EDT)
- Now, shouldn't we make the same changes to Cast?Radicell 07:45, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- I think I made some of the changes, at least for the first two seasons. I'm still thinking we need to change some of the categories so they're more specific. Instead of Category:Guest Stars and Category:Season Three Cast, I'd prefer to see Category:Season Three Guest Stars or something like that. It'd make automating the portals much easier, once we tweak the code. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:55, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- Agree! I wouldn't mind moving the current content of Portal:Characters to Portal:Characters/Season Three, with the former being the main portal, linking to Portal:Characters/Season One, Portal:Characters/Season Two, Portal:Characters/Season Three, Portal:Future Characters, Portal:Animals, Portal:Webisode Characters, Portal:Unaired Characters, Portal:Graphic Novel Characters, and Portal:Evolutions Characters, each link using the {{PortalCharacter}} format. ---Pierre 08:12, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- We also need to change the navbar that appear at the bottom of each cast member's page. Right now it still has "Supporting" and "Recurring" as two different categories. Radicell 10:01, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- So who would like to make those changes? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:35, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- I'd be happy to do it as soon as it is greenlighted. --Pierre 11:53, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- The navbars are all correct now, and the characters and actors are put into the right category following the current format. I too would prefer Category:Season One Guest Stars, Category:Season Two Supporting Cast, Category:Season Two Principal Cast etc., but when I played around with it this summer, I had to conclude that I lack the proper wiki code programming skills to do so. Pierre 12:45, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, there need to be some changes made to template:minorrow and some other templates. I'm not the best with DPL, but I can figure it out. However, I'm busy tonight and most of the day tomorrow is no good. I probably won't be able to get to it until Sunday. (Thank goodness for an extra hour in the day this weekend! Too bad toddlers don't pay attention to Daylight Savings...) In the meantime, the categories can still be added. They should probably be done automatically, through template:characternav and template:actornav. If you can't figure those out, that's fine, I'll take care of that later, too. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:53, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- If you want, let me know what changes need to be made to template:minorrow, and I'll check into it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:57, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
- The Character and Cast portals are all fixed now. Now it "only" remains to upgrade the category system to match the portal system. I'm out of time for tonight though. :) --Pierre 14:04, 24 October 2008 (EDT)

Minimum limit
Would it be time to upgrade the limit for how many appearance counts as a recurring character to the "standard" 4? Right now, it is 3. If we were to change to 4, all characters but Lyle and Jesse would remain recurring. If we don't change, Baron Samedi is to be added (due to his recently discovered appearance in The Butterfly Effect), and, following next week's episode, spoiler, spoiler and spoiler, would be added as well.
Changing to a 4 appearance limit seems to minimize the work for us, and we will have to do it sometime during season 3. What do you think? --Pierre 10:13, 3 December 2008 (EST)
- I agree. Four sounds good...unless we want to do it by volume...but I think that gets messy with categorization. I would just go for four, like we did for Season One. I sound like a broken record, but we really need a Help:Characters, don't we! I'll probably write something up during the winter break, when Heroes is over, when work slows down, and when my graduate classes are finished. *sigh* -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:11, 3 December 2008 (EST)
- I've thought about doing it by volume as well... But then we have the categorization issue, as well as renaming the portals (Portal:Recurring Characters/Volume One) etc. It's really not worth it, IMO. Also, while the volumes isn't fixed in length, the seasons pretty much are (save for extraordinary events like past year's strike), which saves us discussions from how to draw the line for, say a 5episode volume, or a 17 episode volume. And yeah - Help:Characters sure would be a... help... --Pierre 11:17, 3 December 2008 (EST)
Daphne
Shouldn't she be in the main characters? She is really important...Meesa yoda 12:27, 27 December 2008 (EST)
- I think these character classifications have to do with the billing of the cast in the credits. Brea, last I checked, isnt on the Heroes payroll as principle cast, therefore Daphne isn't a Main character. I agree, she is a major character in the show right now, complete with character development. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 13:27, 27 December 2008 (EST)
- Exactly right. A principal cast member's contract basically states that they need to make themselves available whenever needed. The writers can also stick them in whatever Heroes-related fare they want, such as The Recruit. All others are guest stars. For Heroes Wiki's purposes, we've split the characters those guest stars portray into "recurring characters" and "minor characters". We define a recurring character as one who has appeared a certain number of times in a season (see Help:Characters). Everybody else is a minor character. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:45, 27 December 2008 (EST)
Luke
shouldn't we add Luke to recurring page he's been in three episodes his name along with his mother was placed on screen in Trust and Blood and im not sure if this is clear sign of recurrence. Datnymonster 16:47, 5 March 2008 (EST)
- No since he's only appeared in 3 episodes, not 4. We only add characters as recurring after they've appeared in 4 episodes. --Radicell 18:42, 5 March 2009 (EST)
- That's right: four times in Season Three makes a character recurring. See Help:Characters for more info. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:51, 5 March 2009 (EST)
By Volume?
Like this?:
Volume 3
Volume 4

Meredith Dead
- I think that we should consider Meredith Gordon as deceased. I have come to this conclusion after watching the show and reading the graphic novels. In Volume 3, Meredith was engulfed by flames and even if she survived, Primatech's collapse would have crushed and buried her. In Volume 4, Claire, Angela, Noah and Doyle never mention Meredith and if she survived, then we would know by now. Plus, in the graphic novel Puppet with No Strings, Doyle stated that only he and Sylar survived Primatech's destruction. Also, the producers have confirmed the deaths of Echo DeMille and Danny Pine, so it seems only natural that Meredith is indeed dead. However, the matter of Flint's survival is still a mystery. --JD101
Death toll
Should we note somewhere on Heroeswiki that Season 3 had the most recurring character death toll? That could be a trivia somewhere. --JLYK 20:35, 29 April 2009 (EST)
Micah Sander
Micah Sanders should be added he appeared in 4 episodes now.
Supporting and Recurring
I was wondering whether we could change the character portals. Obviously, we should leave the main page as it is but for the recurring characters with 4 appearances or more, could we rename that supporting characters? Then, we could create a new portal titled "recurring characters" and in that portal, we could put the characters with three appearances. Then, characters like Linderman, Chandra and Charlie could be seperate from the minor characters because they really aren't minor characters. Plus the minor character portals would be smaller and easier to navigate. Just like to see what people think :)--JD101
- I think its a very good idea but you'd probably have to get permission from one of the patrollers. Monroej
