Special:Wantedpages problem
Hey I don't think you're on right now, but if you get this, could you check out a problem that some people are having with the red links page? MiamiVolts says it might be that someone swapped in the test.heroeswiki.com domain this morning for the home page. I'm a bit clueless. See here for details. Thanks! — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:05, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- I think Admin's the only one who could have done so. We had the same problem back when he created the Episode: namespace, and he was able to fix it by running an update of some sort. I assume the same applies now.--Hardvice (talk) 21:02, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks. That's kinda what I thought, but wasn't sure. Techno jargon is not my strong point. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:21, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- What's this about test.heroeswiki.com? That's a test site I use personally and nothing here should reference it. Did something happen? (Admin 23:09, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
- Dunno. MiamiVolts said the main page and some templates are pulling from it, but I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary.--Hardvice (talk) 23:10, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

As requested, here is your [[User:Ryangibsonstewart/Rubber stamp|rubber stamp]]. Enjoy. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:51, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks
Thank you for helping format my posts. Sometimes I get so caught up trying to get information out to everyone that I don't concentrate on proper formatting. Thanks bunches!! Disney42 21:13, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
New Page
I was going to set up a new page for Goofs, but I was wondering what catagory I should put it under groups, or things, or something else? Get back to me! Thank You!--Patrick 16:42, 20 May 2007 (EDT)

Upgrade
- Not sure if you saw my note on the Administrator Portal, but I upgraded MediaWiki from 1.9.3 to 1.10.0 over the weekend. Has a few new features that are documented in the release notes (there's a link to them on the portal). (Admin 14:49, 21 May 2007 (EDT))
- I looked through the release notes a bit. Nothing monumental, but some nice little changes.--Hardvice (talk) 14:50, 21 May 2007 (EDT)
- One small thing that I like is that the amount of bytes are included in the history. It'd be nice to have the +bytes and -bytes, but that's okay, I can do some simple math. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:51, 21 May 2007 (EDT)
- They didn't release a patch from 1.9.3 to 1.10.0. I think they wanted a full upgrade, but I've modified some of the code and really didn't feel like having to go back and find all the changes. Fortunately a quick "svn diff" between their 1.9.3 and 1.10.0 releases gave me a nice patch file that I was able to test and apply successfully to bring the version up to date. Keep a lookout for any messed up PNG thumbnails. I had to pull that code out prior to applying the patch because it looks like they may have fixed that issue themselves. Why hello there
- There is a crazy person stalking me all over the internets, and I stumbled on this wiki with plans to wreak havoc and was surprised to see your name on the sysop list, so I didn't since I recognized you from ED and think ED is (or was) the shit. Anyway, this person months back put on your userpage that I impersonated you and now I'm edit warring with him over it... it seems like the polite thing to tell you. Miltopia 14:14, 24 May 2007 (EDT)
- So it looks like making Hardvice a sysop has definitely paid off! ;) (Admin 14:16, 24 May 2007 (EDT))

So Miltopia said he found this wiki "with plans to wreak havoc" which means he planned to vandalize and troll and it's doubtful he even watches the TV show. Good thing Hardvice is a sysop here. Of course Miltopia is lying as he is the one who stalks everyone (e.g. MONGO, Tbeatty, etc.) Also I only linked to diffs saying hardvice was impersonated on Wikipedia and the text links only said "here."
Miltopia also claims that everyone who hates him (and it's a lot of people) is just one person and if you want to have fun, if you revert Miltopia then his paranoid fantasy will include you as the one person who is after him. Bugmenot 03:03, 9 June 2007 (EDT)

Happy Birthday, me!
So I just got a DVD recorder for my birthday. Awesome. I've recorded a few episodes onto DVDs, but I'm wondering what the next step is. I know you recommend Virtual Dub, which I'm downloading right now. Is there anything else I should know? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:06, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

New Series Crew Portal
Hey there. I know you're not around as much lately, but on the off chance you might be checking in, I was wondering if you could help me out. I added Portal:Effects Department, and I have a feeling more series crew portals will be coming. Adding in the 64 combinations to the See Also list at the bottom of template:crewnav is, well, a pain in the ass. My thought is to get rid of the logic and just go for a straightforward list instead. That would mean the see also would include a second link to the portal for that person, but I don't think that's a big deal or a bad thing. Unless you want to work out the logic for adding a new portal (or give me some tips on how to do it), I'd rather drop the logic altogether. Thanks for your help, Hardvice. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:31, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
- *Sniff* I love that template. If you can wait a day or so, I'll fix the logic. It's a pain, but it does exactly what we want. I'd hate to compromise just because it's easier.--Hardvice (talk) 03:21, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
- That's cool, I'm in no rush. I love it too, but I haven't cracked it yet. I just wasn't sure if you'd be around to fix it up. I do plan to add another portal or two sometime soon, so you're in for some challenges. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:24, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
- Just a quick update: there's actually two new portals to add to crewnav: Stunts and Effects. By my count, that makes 128 combinations. Good luck. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:27, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

DVD ripper
Is there DVD ripping software you particularly like? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:58, 28 June 2007 (EDT)
- AnyDVD + CloneDVD. DVDShrink used to be the best, but I think it's been abandoned. For pure ripping (as opposed to ripping, reencoding, and burning), you can't beat DVD Decrypter. It's a bit slow but it does a fantastic job and has good error correction.--Hardvice (talk) 21:47, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

- Yeah, I still haven't replaced my laptop (long story), so while I'm still reading RC, editing anything is a bear until after 10 PM (by which time I've got a ton of other stuff to do) since I'm stuck using the browser on the Wii. But I'm still here, I swear.--Hardvice (talk) 01:14, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Hey, when you get a second, will you add Portal:Stunts and Portal:Effects Department to template:crewnav, or at least give me the lowdown on how to do it? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:38, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- I'll get on it tonight. I'd explain how, but first I have to remember how. :) --Hardvice (talk) 17:57, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- What is it you actually want to do? Expand the the "See also" list? Template:Stunts and Template:FX are already included as options...and when I look at people in Stunts and FX, links to Portal:Stunts and Portal:Effects_Department are already appearing on the left-side.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:15, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- Right, it's not expanding the "See Also" section to list all of the Series crew portals to which the person in question doesn't belong. That requires a lot of expansion of the portal's logic. It's pretty easy to do, but the number of options increases geometrically as you add new portals. So it's not hard, but it's a bunch of fiddly edits.--Hardvice (talk) 19:23, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- Here's an RTF file with the logic tree in it as it stands. Basically, in the first section, each {{#if: {{{other|}}} needs to be split into two options for FX, and each {{#if: {{{FX|}}} needs to be split into two options for stunts, making 4x the current number of combinations.--Hardvice (talk) 19:38, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- It's not or it is? If it's not, why the long explanation for doing that?--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:34, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- It is not currently set up properly. Instead of saying "See Also: Series Crew • Graphic Novel Crew • Cast", like it does now, it should say "See Also: Art Department • Directors • Effects Department • Producers • Writers • Other Crew Members • Graphic Novel Crew • Cast". Compare Elle Alexander (stunts only) to Tim Sale (art dept. only) and you'll see the difference. Plus, there's no logic in place for someone who is both an effects artist and a director or any other double/triple/quadruple threats that might come along involving effects/stunt people. Fixing this requires adding logic for FX and stunts to the template, which is what Ryan and I were discussing.--Hardvice (talk) 21:47, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- Ah, I understand your confusion. By "it's not expanding the "See Also" section", I mean "the template is not expanding the "See Also" section". You took it as me saying "the issue isn't expanding the "See Also" section." Damned antecedents.--Hardvice (talk) 22:00, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- Exactly... that was my confusion.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:04, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks for the logic tree, Hardvice--it helps a lot. Would you like to add the logic, or would you like me to do it? I'd feel more comfortable with you doing it, but if your computer is an obstacle, let me know and I'll go ahead and make the changes tomorrow. I just don't want to double the work if you're planning on doing it. :) Thanks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:03, 9 September 2007 (EDT)

Power names help page
- If you feel so inclined, do you think you could take your discussion on power naming and create a help page based on it? It looks like a good start to a policy on naming powers and it's clear the issue of naming powers isn't going to go away anytime soon. (Admin 02:40, 25 September 2007 (EDT))
Four Months Later synopsis
- Are you planning on doing one? If not, I might type one up in the morning. I'm not comfortable making FML the AOTW with the current synopsis. It's just not detailed enough and has a lot of style problems which need to be addressed. Lemme know either way.--Hardvice (talk) 03:57, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

- It's explained here. I'll bring over the CSS and JavaScript so we can retrofit the templates at some point. (Admin 22:33, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
- Hmm... though for people without JavaScript enabled it could be a pain. Plus since it's JavaScript based I've noticed a brief delay when refreshing where the borders aren't rounded and then as the JavaScript is applied it rounds them. The first part I'm not as worried about, but the second part could be annoying. (Admin 22:46, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
- Actually, the refresh issue only appears to be when I do a full refresh and it has to redownload the Common.js. So on normal page loads it would be ok. Not a big deal then. (Admin 22:51, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
- Would we be looking to replace the moz corners, or can we make the Javascript browser-specific? The rounded corners in Firefox are still better (in that they don't have to load), so it would be nice if we only ran the Nifty corners for non-Gecko browsers.--Hardvice (talk) 23:45, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
- The JavaScript can be browser specific and we can tell it to only use Nifty for IE... as long as it's possible for us to apply Nifty to those templates without any changes that disrupt the display in Firefox. (Admin 23:48, 29 September 2007 (EDT))

Red links on your page
- It looks like the red links on your page are a consequence of this bug having been fixed. Previously it apparently wasn't checking to see if any Special pages actually existed before marking it blue. It's only now after the MediaWiki 1.11 upgrade that it's following the standard behavior. (Admin 17:36, 30 September 2007 (EDT))
Maya's power
Hey, on Talk:Maya's ability do you know if you purposely clobbered my comment about the CBR interview, whether it didn't even show up for you when you edited, or whether you may have accidentally removed it? Check out the diff and you'll see my comment was replaced by yours. I don't really mind, but if it's a bug I want to investigate it. (Admin 23:26, 1 October 2007 (EDT))
- Nope. I didn't get an edit conflict or anything. That's happened to me (on the receiving end) a couple times, actually. I was meaning to ask you about it.--Hardvice (talk) 23:27, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
- Interesting. Ok. (Admin 23:28, 1 October 2007 (EDT))
- Happened to me once, too. I wrote it off as my own computer problems. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:41, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
- I have noticed that it generally happens (when I'm the one overwriting something) when I've had a page open for a couple of minutes--not long enough to time out, but longer than the average edit. I haven't looked at the timestamps yet, but my guess is that I probably opened the page before your change was saved, and something is wrong with the conflict detection.--Hardvice (talk) 23:43, 1 October 2007 (EDT)

Lizards's Heroes Interactive
Any chance you got screencaps of Lizards's Heroes Interactive?--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:56, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
- I tried doing Heroes Interactive for I think Landslide, but I just can't do it. It ruins the first viewing of the episode as far as I'm concerned.--Hardvice (talk) 03:00, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
- You don't have to. If you're on the East Coast like me and Ryan, just login to 2screen as a guest, change the time on your pc to Pacific time, and choose the PST option. Then wait for 12 midnight EST / 9:00PST, when it will air for the second time (do the reverse if you're closer to the PST airing). You might want to check it out anyways now, as it has an interesting character map/portal with summaries of many of the season one characters and their powers (names for each of their powers, if any, are given).--MiamiVolts (talk) 03:09, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
Octember
So you didn't like my new month 'Octember'? You should have changed it to 'Septober' instead. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/3/2007 17:25 (EST)
- I thought it was pretty nifty, actually. I just wasn't sure which it was supposed to be, as I haven't been following the BBC stuff too closely. (I was pleased to see that Bridget is a closet Robbie Williams fan. I've had "Supreme" stuck in my head all day for some reason.)--Hardvice (talk) 17:29, 3 October 2007 (EDT)
Episode Checklist
- Is it Kosher for newbies to add items to the checklist or is there a specific protocol for what can be added to the checklist? What has to happen before we can put an _X_ in an entry's blank? (NissanVersaDootDoot 23:08, 4 October 2007 (EDT))
- The checklists are there to provide a convenient reference per episode to make sure that everything that needs to be updated gets updated. For each new episode there are a ton of things that need to be be updated like per-character episode summaries, article of the week info, the sections in the episode article itself, etc. This way one can glance over it quickly and see what's left to be done. Anything significant in an episode that will require an article can generally be added to the checklist. So if there's something important in a given episode, you want to make sure that it gets updated/created, and it fits into one of the sections already on the checklist you can add it. Marking it with an X is done when the task is taken care of (e.g. Claire is marked off once her episode summary is written and added to Claire). (Admin 23:20, 4 October 2007 (EDT))
- And it's totally kosher for anybody to add anything that needs to be done to the checklist.--Hardvice (talk) 23:39, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

When you get a chance, could you work your magic and add Template:PortalDecember2006February2007? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:06, 9 October 2007 (EDT)

- Yeah. I tried to adjust the picture of the preeclipse calendars to fit, but only one of the months was able to be adjusted. I figured I'd ask the source. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:35, 9 October 2007 (EDT)
Mohinder's office
- Not sure if you noticed, but the most recent standardized version of Micah's file you uploaded is 158k. Think that could get knocked down to closer to 50k? That's about the size of the ones I uploaded and they still look good to me at 50k. (Admin 00:27, 11 October 2007 (EDT))
- Yeah, lately my images are coming out huge. I musta knocked the quality up on my jpg compression or something. In any case, as long as all the ones you uploaded are the same size (as each other, not necessarily 450x350), we can just delete that Micah ... it's a duplicate of the one you upped.--Hardvice (talk) 00:31, 11 October 2007 (EDT)

Group of 12 pic
Why not allow the composite of the several framed-screen caps stay? Yes the clarity was a little less because of the merging, but it gives us ...ALL 12...of the twelve, as the picture is without the hand overprints. We could add all the frames individually to the gallery also, but having a single picture containing all the 12 is better. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/16/2007 18:29 (EST)

- Really, it's all the OMG THIS VAGUELY BROWN WOMAN MUST BE MRS. DEVEAUX / NANA / PAULETTE HAWKINS / THE SUPERSPEED AGENT / ALL FOUR AT ONCE theories that finally did it. I've been thinking of adding that section for a while, but these theories reminded me to do so.--Hardvice (talk) 23:47, 16 October 2007 (EDT)
- BTW, if you can think of any more, please feel free to expand it!--Hardvice (talk) 23:49, 16 October 2007 (EDT)
Dawsons
Lucky you, I'll let you work on the Template:Dawson Tree :) The way I understand it, Nana and Paulette are either sisters or sisters-in-law. Nana's son is MIA, but he and Monica's mother had two children, Monica and Damon. That would make DL and Monica's mom first cousins. Micah and Monica/Damon would be second cousins. Nana is Micah's great-aunt. That seems right to me, but it's entirely possible that I'm way off. (Incidentally, I also think we should have an article about Monica's mom.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:06, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
- Hmm. For now, we have no real in-world confirmation of a lot of the relationships. It's probably best to just stick to the immediate Dawsons (Nana, Mom and Pop Dawson, and Monica and Damon) until we get an idea of how they're related to the Hawkinses. Then we can do one giant horking tree for everybody, which should be fun.--Hardvice (talk) 01:13, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
Image map problems
- Check out the discussion here about the Group of twelve image map not working properly for some people in IE. I switched the image back to the static one for now until it's fixed. (Admin 11:37, 17 October 2007 (EDT))
- Check the discussion here again. The IE bug has been patched on BionicWiki.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:40, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
Your user picutre gives me seizures...

Images for Portals
- I'm currently looking for an image for List of references to Heroes to go in the portal, but, right now, it's hit a dead end. I think the Simpsons trailer - "Save the Beerdrinker, Save the World" would be good for it, but I can't find a pic right now. Still looking though.-- Lost Soul talk contribs 04:32, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
Just wondering..
Do you have any suggestions you can make for my page on powers? Also, check out my most recent one, under Fan powers. I know my videos need a little work but I'm getting there. And, if you can get your hands on a camera, contribute some videos. :D--Riddler 22:50, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
PSA: Blonds
Missing from the theories public service announcement: every blond character is related to every other blond character. --FissionChips <talk> 17:06, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
hmm
Check out http://www.thelindermangroup.com which got added to our fan sites listing. Is it just me, or does this look like blatant copyright infringement? (Admin 10:54, 31 October 2007 (EDT))
- Oh my. I wouldn't expect them to last long.--Hardvice (talk) 10:55, 31 October 2007 (EDT)
- ARIN WhoIs says they are in Amsterdam, NL. I think they are outside copyright enforcement boundaries for the USA.--Mish 13:52, 9 November 2007 (EST)
- I'm not a lawyer, but they're probably still running afoul of some copyright law enforcable over there. Regardless of whether it's legal over there or not, it would certainly be illegal here in the US so to be safe their links were deleted from our fan sites listing. (Admin 13:56, 9 November 2007 (EST))
- The Netherlands is indeed a party to both the Berne Convention and WIPO. While the U.S. is in non-compliance with the Berne Convention on several issues (notably copyright term), there is indeed copyright reciprocity between the U.S. and the Netherlands.--Hardvice (talk) 14:29, 9 November 2007 (EST)
- Then I guess he's lucky he's not ripping off the RIAA. Or else they'd already have his testicles.--Mish 17:40, 9 November 2007 (EST)
