The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a United Kingdom-based broadcasting organization that aired episodes of Heroes in the United Kingdom. The BBC also provided additional Heroes-related content, such as Heroes Unmasked.

About

The BBC is a United Kingdom-based broadcasting organization with its corporate headquarters at Broadcasting House in London. The United Kingdom arm of the BBC operates as a public service broadcaster financed by a national license fee and is, per its charter, "free from both political and commercial influence and answers only to its viewers and listeners." Outside of the UK, the BBC operates on a commercial footing. It is the most extensive broadcasting organization in the world, employing over 25,000 people and serving radio, television, online and printed content in 32 languages. The original British Broadcasting Company was founded in 1922 as a private radio broadcasting company, before it was incorporated in its present format, under a royal charter, in 1927. It began television broadcasts in 1932.

The BBC began airing Heroes on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 9:00 pm on BBC Two. Heroes Unmasked airs afterwards at 9:45 pm for a quarter of an hour, and then another episode airs on BBC Three at 10:00 pm. There is also a radio program on BBC Radio 7 called Heroes The Official Radio Show with Jon Holmes and Xanthe Fuller, every Saturday at 7:30 pm. This program highlights what has been going on in the show in the UK, and listeners send in their theories.

Beginning in April 24, 2008, BBC Two began showing the second series of Heroes on Thursdays at 9:00 pm, followed by Heroes Unmasked for ten to twenty minutes, and then the next episode on BBC Three at 10:30 pm. Heroes Unmasked was moved to a new slot on BBC Two after the BBC Three episode of Heroes.

Beginning on the 1st October 2008, BBC Two reverted their showings of Season Three of Heroes to 9:00pm on Wednesday evenings. Heroes Unmasked continues to follow at 9.45, with BBC Three airing the next episode at 10.00pm.

The BBC also has a channel that airs certain programs in HD, during Season Three it only airs the BBC Three showing of Heroes because another program airing on BBC One is shown in HD at 9:00.

At the start of Volume 4 the BBC changed the time and date of Heroes to Monday's at 9pm. Heroes Unmasked was not continued alongside it. The BBC Three episode was shown at the later time of 10:30.

Volume 5 on the BBC started Saturday the 9th January, at a later time of 10.10pm. The BBC Three episode (it is unknown if this was a repeat or second episode) was shown at the even later time of 11.55pm. The first two episodes (feature-length; Orientation/Jump, Push, Fall) of Heroes were shown on the first Saturday, also available on the BBC HD channel at the same time.

Notes

  • The BBC bought the rights to show the second series of Heroes in 2008 after the first series ended. Episodes began airing in April.
  • During its time on the BBC, the average number of viewers has been approximately 4.1 million.
  • Heroes first aired in the UK on the niche Sci-Fi UK channel, which can only be received by subscribing cable and satellite viewers, so the average number of viewers was only around 450,000.
  • Heroes Volume Five aired on the BBC on January 9, 2010.
