So...
I like the way the plot's moving forward, glad Bryan Fuller is back. I'm just overall feeling a good vibe about the rest of this season. How about you all? Dracomaster4 22:07, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- Agree. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:08, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
How did Sylar move so fast?
When he went from the backseat of Danko's car to the rooftop he did that alot faster than his current list of abilities indicate. --Snow Leapord 22:31, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- I'm guessing that's part of telekinesis, but I agree, it does seem rather rapid. Dracomaster4 22:32, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- Well the next appearance of Sylar after the car incident happened after a fade out--obviously indicating the start of a new scene. --Formless 22:35, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- He's done it before with telekinesis. I believe it was One Giant Leap. But my gut feeling says that it was just for dramatic effect... they weren't implying or discouraging the theory that he has a new power of some sort. -Sincerely, Thrashmeister » talk- 22:36, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- He can use telekinesis on himself? Wouldn't that be overlapping with levitation and flying? --Formless 22:39, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- Well, it's unconfirmed.....perhaps something to go on the ability homology page, though? --Crazylicious 22:42, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, he's implied many times he can make himself hover. I doubt its as sophisticated as levitation, but he's been able to do a bunch of impressive things seemingly thanks to telekinesis, including resist gunfire and avoid making footsteps. --PeterDawson 22:44, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- In response to the "overlapping" to bring in examples from... Jean Gray, Telekinesis is a VERY powerful and versatile ability that can be used for many things... such as flight. Pyrotics 22:46, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- No way, this was entirely to quick to be TK...in One Giant Leap i can understand that he could use it to propel himself upward away from Parkamn, but there wasn't even a car door close...it has to be something new...(unless Sylar is now using his TK to disassemble his molecules only to resturcture them on top of the building...but that'd be to complicated)--Anthony Gooch 23:06, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- No more complicated imo than supercharging super speed to travel through time. --Snow Leapord 23:10, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- lol, well unless Tim confirms that a TK user can disassemble their molecular structure...i doubt it--Anthony Gooch 23:16, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

- Are you thinking that Sylar may have a new mental ability?--Anthony Gooch 23:16, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- My thought was that maybe he somehow got to Rachel Mills. I'm sure that this thought will be dismissed through the iStory. --TitanOT 23:17, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

- I posed this question to BTE - we'll see if they answer it next week... --Jrrenola 09:52, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- Well, it isn't teleportation... http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=20707 --Jrrenola 07:05, 7 April 2009 (EDT)
- I described this incident in the Notes section, which seems to be the best place, since we don't yet know what really happened. --Ted C 10:14, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- TK? Surely not, i mean he didnt even make a sound getting out of the car, and then propells himself through the air? thats a tad ubsurd, my guess is that it is some other ability he aquired off-screen, similar to teleportation or illusion maybe --Lolwut 13:45, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- There wasn't a fade out, so it's all the same scene. Danko pushed the cigarette lighter in and Sylar wasn't in the car (we have a clear view of Danko and his back seat). Sylar appears in the car and they speak. Danko pulls his gun as the cigarette lighter pops back out and Sylar is gone. This shows timeframe, so it wasn't time lost in the edit. If this all happened in the minute it takes a cigarette lighter to heat up, then how did Sylar do it? I think TK is out because he would have to open and close doors and we would have heard this. Also, Sylar is soaked on the rooftop. Why would he be soaked after being in the rain only for a few seconds? Then we have the box in Danko's office. Sylar really got past security and all those people on the way to Danko's office with a cheap tie and accent? His face is plastered all over the place and I'm sure they've all memorized it as he's public enemy number 1. He's lying. He's still soaked on the rooftop. I think it has to be teleportation or telepathy. Both of which, he could've picked up from Arthur. --Mistyjo 14:43, 2 April 2009 (EDT)
- I think some how Sylar can project(for lack of a better word) himself, because it seems he was on the roof for quiet some time. Maybe somehow he gained some kind of Illusion, Telepathy, or even it was just a writing idea to make Sylar seem scarier like when he just appeared sometimes in season one.--Sylar Fan09 14:55, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Shape Shifting acquisition
Did Sylar do so through empathy like he did with Elle?
When Sylar heard/saw that James Martin was shot he acted as if he was scarred that James was dead. This implies that he can't acquire abilities if they are already passed on, but when he removes top of their skull removed that kills them before he can examine the brain. Claire would be an exception due to her ability. So why would he be scarred if James is dead? --Snow Leapord 23:21, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- I think Sylar did TK the guy to get to the guy's brain, but then he used another ability to heal the wound (regenerating it with his own blood would be my guess).--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:25, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- I think he removed the brain through the mouth or something similar so he didn't make the head wound.--WarGrowlmon18 23:27, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- ^ This. Just like with Robert Keep in the deleted scenes, to get impenetrable skin. --Action Figure 23:34, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- Did anyone else figure out that the guy had shape shifting before it was revealed? Because I did, I suspected when the guy vomited, I don't know why but that seemed really odd that this trained person would puke. But it was confirmed (for me) when the guy started talking about how Danko's speech was inspirational, almost in a sly taunting way. And I kept saying "he's a shape-shifter" all up to when Danko opened the box. Of course if there was any spoilers, then perhaps it was a sub conscious thing (though I try to stay away from them). So I'd like to think I knew because I'm intelligent rather than a hidden memory that slightly surfaced then and there. Dman dustin 00:22, 31 March 2009 (EDT)

- It seems to me that it took a long time for him to get Elle's power, but remember his innate ability Intuitive aptitude is "the ability to understand the structure and operation of complex systems", so once he went through the process with Elle he would now understand it much better and could now do it much quicker and without all the discovery work that was needed the first time with Elle. --Mas 20:35, 5 April 2009 (EDT)

Obvious reference to se7en
Did anyone else notice? --Acolyt3 02:46, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah i lol'd when Danko said "what's in the box"...i thought, no! the writes wouldn't take a page from seven...they just want us to think that there is gonna be a head in that box...and then it was, and i was like "Ha!"
- Never seen se7en, but I knew there was a head in the box. There's always a head in the box.--Mistyjo 12:22, 2 April 2009 (EDT)
Sylar's Rapid Cell Regeneration?
What did Sylar say about RCR? That he needs something (a knife) to be stuck in his head and a bullet to the brain to die? I thought only a bullet to the brain was needed to kill someone with RCR... Arthur died after being shot and he never had an obstruction in his head.. --Peter 07:33, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- He said that the spot needed to be hit was microscopic and Danko said he was a good shot. I think sticking something there afterwards was just to make sure. I think the bullet destroyed that particular spot of Arthur's brain as it went all the way through so there was no need to stick something in.--WarGrowlmon18 11:27, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
Clarie's drinking game
Okay, so this really bugged me while I was watching. How is it Claire doesn't get drunk but Adam Monroe can be the town drunk? --Markistoopimp 11:29, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- That was before he developed his power. He seemed to get it after that eclipse in the past given how shocked he was by his healing. I didn't really see him get drunk after that.--WarGrowlmon18 11:35, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- Adam took Hiro to a bar for a 'mean martini' or something which probably shows the liver could be damaged over time? Or he just likes the taste, meh. --Arkillion 14:14, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- I don't have any problem with how the scenes turned out, however when Claire made the comment about the tissue regeneration working on her liver, too, I replied in a snarky way, "That's not how intoxication works." :) I suppose a good question is how they drugged Claire when transporting her earlier in the volume when at a high level drugs like those function in the same way as alcohol (interfering with the normal neurochemical transmission and reception). I think a wizard did it. (Admin 18:28, 31 March 2009 (EDT))
- What bugged me is how this got past the NBC sensors. Then I thought about it, and I believe this is the third time we've seen underage drinking on Heroes. I also thought that the liver excuse was kinda lame, but maybe if she had said something about super fast metabolism I would've believed her. A constant stream of drugs from an IV would keep her disoriented so long as the IV was in her, but she should have sobered up quick once they were out. I think it was a great idea as far as awkward dad/daughter bonding goes, a bad idea for continuity. --Mistyjo 16:14, 2 April 2009 (EDT)
- I think that a side-effect of RCR is having a faster metabolism, although this theory would make more sense with someone with superspeed I suppose. Plus since Claire has RCR I suppose it's safe to assume that her blood isn't thin in the least.--Bonchilla 06:16, 3 April 2009 (EDT)

New actors/characters
Love the Music
Not quite sure when the decision to add all this great classic rock music to Heroes was made, but i couldn't be happier about it. Love how its used, love that its not played out crap that you hear on every commercial nowadays. I mean Steppenwolf, Fleetwood Mac, and now the Animals, couldnt be better. Anyone else get the reference that the two most animalistic people of this volume are listening to an Animals song? Anyway, keep up the good work, cant wait til Sylars walking down the road to Drivers Seat by Sniff and the Tears, or Spill the Wine by War. And just because....I was born and have lived in West Baltimore my whole life, and Sylar cannot do a decent West Baltimore accent, that was more like West Texas or West Virginia, but its a delicate bastardization of the English language to master. --HandsOffMyPeter 19:33, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
crap
IceGhost78 i believe this is so far the worst episode of volume 4, sylar was out of character, and it feels like every episode has the same crap coming from claire "how could you do (something)? there's always a choice! *crying*." Peter and angela was the only good thing, this episode was very bad bad writing music is being overused, that "to be continued thing" just seemed out of place, and as someone mentioned the writer stole a story from a show with a head being in the box
- I thought it was a great episode. It wasn't really terribly exciting, but I think they got some much needed character development out of the way in this episode. I rather liked it. -Sincerely, Thrashmeister » talk- 20:52, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- ^i concur with TM--Anthony Gooch 20:59, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- I agree with IceGhost. This episode was terrible and the writing was unoriginal and not very well thought out. Even for a television show where the watcher is supposed to suspend belief; it did a terrible job explaining why the shape-shifter would decide to simply take over somebody's life (the guy who shook hands with Danko) and actually go to his work and unnecessarily risk his life by shaking hands with Danko. Then he would just pretend life is fine and go back to the bar he seems to go every night ...AS THE MAN WHO IS HUNTING HIM. Then, to top it off, the shape-shifter decides to copy some guy, Sylar, and actually walk out of the bar with Danko thinking everything would be fine. Don't get me started on how he probably never met Sylar and he has no idea what he sounds like or how he talks. I was willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt by waiting until the Graphic Novel came out because it may try to elaborate but it didn't. In fact, I feel the graphic novel was a waste of time because it decided to be clever and give a touching back-story to how the agents were killed. Plus, why would Danko actually allow Sylar to have such a powerful power just so his men could get a 'win'. I'll just have to wait and see what happens from here; I'm sure Danko has a few surprises of his own. --Halfxwitted 21:48, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- Sorry, I think this was a terrific episode. It was well paced, had some great action and suspense, and introduced a really cool new power. I thought the acting was great. As with some of the best Heroes episodes, it balanced action and drama. The stories were clear, and I was really caught up by the characters. I'd gladly take more episodes like this one. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:16, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- I disagree with the pacing. I've only seen it once but I felt that everything seemed to move too slowly with Claire/Nathan and Peter/Angela. Even some of the Sylar/Danko scenes/conversations seemed unnecessarily long. Most scenes felt as if they should have just been condensed. And no disrespect but I laughed when I read "and introduced a really cool new power" because the power was barely introduced. It just randomly showed up and was taken a few scenes later by Sylar. There was no back-story given and no explanation as to why the shape-shifter acted the way he did which I chalk up to lazy writing. I also feel cheated as a fan when I couldn't figure out how Sylar 'teleported' in/out of the car and how he took the power without ripping open his skull. If the writers are just going to do whatever they want and then use excuses like "we tried to explain it but it was cut" then they are going to keep losing fans. It's only a matter of time before the hardcore fans such as myself say "enough is enough". --Halfxwitted 23:53, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- Well "hardcore" fans like you need to snap back to reality and realise it's just a show. The Sylar scene was merely dramatic effect. If you want me to explain it the "hardcore" way: He used the camouflaging ability he stole from "Chameleon Girl" (Season 2 DVD Extras, 3.01 A Second Coming)to get into the car unnoticed. TK'd the lock open, "camouflaged" himself back and left, most probably using telekinesis to "fly" (as done in 'One Giant Leap', if I'm not wrong) to the rooftop. Are you saying that you'd have actually wanted to "see" an invisible Sylar "fly" and/or state how he got there? Come on. I liked the episode. Not as good as the previous one, but definitely entertaining. I loved how broken bridges were mended and the new alliance formed. It also gave us more insight into Angela, Peter and Nathan's characters. What I found "crap"?

"You're supposed to be Superman." Worst. Line. Ever. (After "Mr Butler, what are you doing?" of course) Noah Bennet. You've established that the man has been painted grey. Why did he leave Angela and Peter? That moment when looks were exchanged really had me waiting, but he just let them go. Granted, the outcome of the Peter/Angela episode arc turned out well, but that was a little OOC, IMO. --The Spark 09:06, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- It wasn't a bad episode. I really liked the episode. Sylar wasn't really out of character, just showing parts of his character we don't usually see, but we've seen him act this way before. It started off traditional cat/mouse Sylar and I think the first time you can say he seemed out of character was in the bar. However, we've seen him act this way before around HRG, Elle, Mohinder, and in the future with Peter. I think the most out of character he got was when Danko asked him to kill the guy without cutting his forehead. However, I also think the overjoyed expression he had at that moment was more about freaking Danko out than true emotion. Gotta remember that Sylar is a master chess player and often acts a certain way around people to mess with them. I think the popular music they've been using is ok, Tim Kring used to do that a lot in "Crossing Jordan" and it fits the situation, plus they pick tunes that don't date the series. The head in the box was cliche, I don't think it was stolen from another show as much as it is a old, worn out horror technique. I think it's just in line with Sylar's affinity for leaving Danko gifts. He's able to invade Danko's space and evade capture; I think it was less about the shock of a head in the box and more about showing Danko that he'll never beat Sylar and how great Sylar could be at helping him. Danko would let Sylar have the power because it helps Danko just as much as it helps Sylar. I don't think we need to develop the shape-shifter's character right now. We're near the end of a story arch, why should we introduce a character, spend several episodes on him then kill him? They explained it good enough. He was in the database, they didn't know his power, Sylar and HRG look at Danko like he's a fool, Danko comes out looking like he killed the white whale, and we know all we needed to know about how the shape-shifter works and what the shape-shifter's motives were. Peter and Angela scenes were perfect and we won't be shocked when Peter starts helping Angela now we know they've reconciled. Claire and Nathan stuff was great too. We didn't know why he helped Claire, now we do. We know more about Nathan the dad now and Claire calling her dad "superman" wasn't lame, it was perfect. That's exactly what any teenaged girl who found out her bio-dad was running for Senate and could fly would think. I'm really shocked people didn't like this episode.--Mistyjo 15:42, 2 April 2009 (EDT)
- I don't know, to me this makes a fairly good "filler" episode, but as an episode alone? Not so much. The episode started out rather promising, but I felt that towards the middle till the end the writing went sloppy. Claire's dynamics with Nathan were great at first until the very next day where Nathan's sober and Claire goes back to being this tearful/naive little girl. It's really annoying when people say Claire is an annoying character because I truly believe that it has great potential; if only they could harness it right and prove to everyone that Claire isn't always in tears nor does she only have a one-sided "child like" view of the world. My favourite bit was within the Cathedral; Peter and Angela's scenes were the best bits of the episode by far. Sylar and Danko though, well. Honestly I felt Sylar was OOC. Yes, we've seen him display this sort of side before but the way others handled it before was better because you could still feel that he was being himself (think of his time with Luke). Here, though, he seemed too giddy and chidlike; he didn't seem like his usual on-guard, nonchalant, and calculated self. I think they could have handled their scenes a lot better. If anything the writing seemed rather rushed and sloppy; for example, Claire's line was tacky: "You're supposed to be Superman." It came off sounding as though the only reason Claire called Nathan as such is because he could fly; it's not like Superman alone has that ability. Then again I suppose its because of the way her character has been portrayed for so long. She seems destined to come off sounding as some little girl who is naive and oblivious - there is so much that can be done with her charter. I'm worried that Heroes might go back to the way it was during Volume Three. Hopefully the next episode will be redeeming though. Fingers crossed.--Bonchilla 06:10, 3 April 2009 (EDT)

- Into asylum is the episode with most character development in seaon 3 and character development is one of the things that season 3 has been lacking so into sylum was a very good episode--Cj31094 13:23, 4 April 2009 (EDT)
IceGhost78 you are trying to sprinkle coat this and i apologize but there was little character development, the whole episode just went nowhere, all we saw was syler out of character, danko contradicting everything he stands for by working with sylar, and claire being the typical naive girl
- I love every episode of Heroes, but I have to admit this one was missing something –well, more specifically someone. Am I the only one who misses Sendhil? Out of the last four episodes Mohinder has only been in one! But no, all Mohinder thoughts aside, I thought it was moderately well written. I loved the change of pace in the storyline. Despite what I had thought prior to the episode’s airing, I found that I actually liked Sylar teaming up with Danko. It gives him more of an overall importance in the main story arc. I thought the Angela and Peter scenes were unique and desired. Gorgeous and even a tad bit creepy, they were what the episode needed to remain balanced and my personal favorite story of this chapter. I can understand how some fans saw the Nathan and Claire story as a little cheesy, but you have to take into consideration how cheesy it could have been. I believe that Nathan fans are glad that he’s supposedly back on the “good guy side”. The writers should be very happy with the way that it turned out. There’s not another show on television that could have pulled off an episode like this. I can’t wait for tonight’s episode, and yes, Mohinder is in it! --Mohinder613 (talk) 15:11, 6 April 2009 (EDT)
Shape-shifter keeping his form?
I am curious as to how the shape-shifter still kept his Sylar form when he was killed. Remembering back to the whole Candice incident; she turned back to normal once Sylar killed her. Why would this be any different?--Halfxwitted 23:56, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
- Candice wasn't a Shape shifter. She was an illusionist. What she made you see wasn't real. What Martin made you see was in fact his body transformed.--Riddler 00:01, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- I just am under the impression that the brain controls the ability and once the brain has been damaged (or in this case, a knife into the back of it) then the ability stops working. Remember when Peter turned invisible in season 1 and was stabbed in the back of the head with glass, he turn un-invisible. This may closer resemble the circumstances as opposed to the Candice one. --Halfxwitted 00:41, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- Well i thought of it like this....for his body to change it needs the ability, once he died his body no longer could use this ability, once his body could no longer use the ability it couldn't change back....it's like crossing back and forth on a bridge, then one day your bridge falls...well, now you're stuck...lol, did this make any sense?--Anthony Gooch 00:56, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- Hmm. Yea, it makes sense. And actually, it probably is the best answer. But if that's the case then the question becomes why did Peter transform from invisible to visible when it happened to him?.--Halfxwitted 01:04, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- I think it's great that they gave us this little nugget of information. Candice's ability and Peter's ability are not the models for James Martin's ability. When he shapeshifts, it stays until he wills it to change. Even in death, he remains looking like the person he was when he died. He doesn't revert. Very cool. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:05, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- I'll say that James ability is like flipping a switch, you have to flip it back to return to your original self. Peter's invisibility and Candice's illusions were like a button you pushed for some duration, as soon as you let go, the ability stopped. Therefore, I bet we can classify all abilities in those two categories.--Ikkian 01:11, 1 April 2009 (EDT)

- Candice had Illusion not SS, her ability was better than Shape Shifting, she could create worlds, people (and even talking people), but shape shifting is totally different, and painful, and it's not an illusion--Themd 14:11, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
Has anyone?
Got a link to a working video of this episode? I can't use NBC or Hulu though. If anyone can help, thanks.--Steely McBeam - (talk) 00:23, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- Try Heroes France. I'm not positive, but I think they usually have something up pretty quickly that works outside of the U.S. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:11, 1 April 2009 (EDT)

Nana link
The Nana that Angela refers to is not the same person as Rebel/Micah's grandmother. I removed the link to the article about Nana.
