First Time?
- Could the fire that she created have been her first time using her powers? Claire also survived the fire because of her power. --Jnezon
- Very possibly - she was young. I wouldn't add that though, since it's speculation, and we still know very little about the fire 14 years ago. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:38, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- The fire was definitely part of a deliberate conspiracy. Her comment to Claire's bio-father in the preview for next week gave that away.--E rowe 11:48, 30 January 2007 (EST)
Things to add
This article needs the name of the town where Meredith Gordon lives; I couldn't recall it when I wrote the article. --Ted C 10:41, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- Kermit! :) (Admin 10:42, 30 January 2007 (EST))

Control
So far it isn't much to go on, but when she lights the cigarette, you will notice that the flames don't move naturally. They are pulled towards the tip of the cigarette. Weather this means she is a living flamethrower or not remains to be seen, but she can direct fire at least a bit. -- Cuardin
- It definitely looks like something's up, but it also might just be the visual effects not quite simulating reality: when one lights a cigarette, the flame often is drawn to the tip as the smoker inhales, just not so dramatically.--Hardvice (talk) 03:03, 2 February 2007 (EST)
- Agreed. It is a bit thin ATM. -- Cuardin 20:35, 2 February 2007 (EST)
- According to what we saw in Distractions, Meredith doesn't appear to require a source of fire in order to create it. She also appears immune to at least the fire which she creates (she neither showed signs of burns on her hand nor any notice of the heat that the fire would have been giving off). It's still unclear if she can "control" fire.. but she can definetly "create" it from nothing. --Yoshie (talk) 12:10, 2 February 2007 (EST)
- Agreed. It is a bit thin ATM. -- Cuardin 20:35, 2 February 2007 (EST)
Just adding it here for future reference. Meredith apparently thought Claire died in the fire. Assuming she would have wanted to save her daughter, Meredith must not have been able to survive the flames of the house to go rescue Claire, or at least not known she could. Of course, we may learn later that she had other reasons for not going to her daughter's rescue. At present, we haven't seen any ability to control/resist fire that she isn't producing herself. --Ted C 12:03, 6 February 2007 (EST)
- Why do we say Meredith has this Power, when she has clearly only been shown to create it as in Pyrogenesis? Maarten however, does have pyrokinesis. Random guy 15:19, 3 November 2007 (EDT)
Haha oh man.
Well this IS discussion... I had a dream last night I had Pyrokinesis... and I must say, it was the coolest dream EVER. Just snapping with the effect of a lighter. It was awesome. I definatley think this is the power I would want.--Riddler 23:14, 6 February 2007 (EST)
Five Years Gone
Are we sure Peter uses pyrokinesis and not Ted's power to induce radioactivity. Ok ze clearly see fire but is it sufficient to assume it's pyrokinesis as we know it from Claire's mom ?? -- FrenchFlo (talk) 03:31, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- I am confused on that point as well. Tfo 03:37, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- In my opinion, I think it's Ted's powers... Just look at the new comic... How could he melt the [don't know the name] of the door to break Niki out? Fire can't melt it fast enough, radiation can... --Densus 05:20, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Actually there is already is a discussion about that here. -- FrenchFlo (talk) 06:04, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Having Ted's power doesn't mean he doesn't have pyrokinesis. He could easily have both.--Hardvice (talk) 16:06, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

- Peter absorbed Electromagnetism and Enhanced speed --Densus 12:02, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
- Oh that scene makes alot more sense now --- he was talking about Enhanced Speed
- think that Future Peter's version is different to Meredith's 'cause the flame if over his whole hand, it is flaire red in color.
- Meredith's fire was red as well, and she has finally shown greater flames in volume three. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:28, 11 January 2009 (EST)

Future absorptions
So some of our powers pages (like this one) show that Future Sylar or Future Peter have absorbed powers. Others don't. We should really do all or nothing. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other. Any thoughts? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:28, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
I have teh phire.
Haha, long time no see, guys. Just wanted to share, this little test is Heroes inspired. Ive always though Pyrokinesis to be one of the coolest powers. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ui06TZnmw30 --Riddler 23:23, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
-Ahw, no love.--Riddler 14:48, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- Nice effect... ok, here's a tip: change the color scheme on the flames...you could make it appear greenish-blue like if you were looking through night-vision goggles.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:34, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- Not bad. What did you use to make it? I know there are some nice tools on my MacBook, but I've never checked them out... might be possible to do something like that on there, too. Only tip I have would be to make the fire track the fingers when they move (like near the end) before its blown out. Actually, maybe you could make a "Sylar Collection" with you demonstrating all different powers. That might be neat. (Admin 16:03, 5 September 2007 (EDT))
- Did it with Vegas and premade effects. I wanna go on to learn how to do some of my own. I can try a Sylar type thing but it'll be fairly limited. The video was much brighter until I uploaded it to youtube, it was weird. I'm just learning effects, so I know they need work =P I did a flamethrower today, not really heroes based this time but it still works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3tP0p7YZFA--Riddler 16:37, 5 September 2007 (EDT)

- Haha, I don't think I'll take that path. I just like video editing, me and my friends film (well, did, we haven't in a while) - so now I'm learning effects in case we do any movies. I wanna try electricity next though.--Riddler 16:45, 5 September 2007 (EDT)

Image Caption in gallery
The last picture in the gallery - I'm not sture 'extinguish' is the best word to use because you can't extinguish water. The only thing able to be extinguished would be Maarten's flames. I don't know what the intent was when this was written, though, so I'm just asking.
Flint's ability?
The same than Future Ando's ability. I don't think that this ability is just "Pyrokisesis". I don't anything about blue fire, but i don't think that they're normal flames. Sorry for my english, I don't speak it very well :)
Blue flames are just flames that are hotter than orange and red.SPARTAN-077 17:25, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Hey, now that now that this has been in an episode (it was called "Pyrokinesis," in Flint's AT file), could we change it to a name from canon? Super-Hiro 14:31, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
- Yep! Good call...I'm taking care of it now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:01, 28 September 2008 (EDT)

Meredith
I think we should remove the comment under Meredith:
She is not hurt by the fire she creates, and she seems to be resistant to other consequences of its use; her flames generated enough heat and consumed enough oxygen from a shipping container to nearly suffocate Claire, but Meredith seemed completely unaffected, not even breaking a sweat (One of Us, One of Them).
It was suggested in the episode (waterboarding torture) that the oxygen was not really gone from the container, and that Claire was only 'suffocating' because she believed she was. In addition to the apparent lack of time to burn all of the oxygen in the container, if the oxygen was gone, Meredith would have needed some other oxidant to burn to maintain her flames.Stevehim 05:04, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
- What? When was it suggested that the oxygen wasn't gone or that Claire was only psychologically suffocating? And I don't think we know how long the two of them were in that cargo container. I'm not saying that Meredith is or isn't affected by her power, but I certainly don't want to use speculation as a basis for my position. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:21, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
- I don't think it's speculation. Consider Meredith's comment about waterboarding torture:
Meredith: Do you know what waterboarding is, Claire?
Claire: No.
Meredith: It's a method of torture. You're not drowning, but your body tells your mind that you are. You think you're gonna die. Trapped. Panic. ...
I don't see another reason for that exchange, and it sufficiently explains why Meredith can still breathe, why she's still able to maintain flames, and the time problem (ie - the amount of flame used would not burn the oxygen in that container in that time). As for how long they were in there, I was assuming we saw the entire exchange, based on the way the dialogue went (it would be hard to insert dialogue that made sense for the one cutaway segment, and I don't think it's reasonable to assume they were standing there silently). Cutting away to the bank for a minute in between shouldn't imply they were in there for time we didn't see. Additionally, Claire doesn't seem to feel any negative effects until Meredith mentions that she thinks the air must be getting pretty thin, at which point Claire begins to breathe heavier and asks her mom why she's 'doing this.' I can't believe that in that one second the air difference was substantial. Finally, once Meredith stops creating her fire, Claire seems to stop suffering the effects of suffocation, and the oxygen content wouldn't suddenly increase due to the flames going out. I felt the entire point of the scene was psychological...to show Claire that she can still feel (she even seems to feel pain in her hands when she touches the wall at one point). Stevehim 07:52, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
- She's not burning the oxygen, she's heating it up. Hot air is much thinner than cold air. Infact, Meredith even says "I bet now the air is getting thin in here". When the air is thinner, less oxygen is inhaled in a normal breath. You'll get the same effect if you breathe in when you open the hot oven.
- She must be burning some of the oxygen since she needs an oxidant to maintain the flames, and she can only increase the temperature of the container so much before the requisite pressure increase begins to have an effect on any number of things. And that's kind of my point anyway...you don't actually suffocate by breathing in air that is less dense (ie - warm air)...it was in her head due to Meredith's psychological prodding and her weak emotional state (due to the atack). In any case, it still doesn't explain the point of bringing up waterboarding (which only serves to illustrate that it's in Claire's head), or why Claire would suddenly feel the effects at the exact moment Meredith brings up the 'thinner air,' and why she all of a sudden stops feeling them when Meredith stops talking to her about it. I truly feel it's clear from that scene that it was all in Claire's head. Stevehim 05:22, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
Absorbed From?
- In the page it says Future Peter (Dark Future) absorbed his abilty from Meredith. I'm a bit confused about this, how do we know this? -- Futurepeter 09:12, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
- It was assumed from the scene where he's facing off against Sylar and emits what appears to be fire from his hands (while Sylar emits what appears to be ice). Since Meredith was the only one with that power at the time, it was attributed to her. It should probably be changed to unknown now, as it could have come from Maarten (or someone we don't know of) instead. Stevehim 09:28, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
- It was confirmed in the BTE Summer Spectacular that it was from Meredith.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:50, 2 October 2008 (EDT)

need a few more example images
When Meredith moved into the Bennet's home, she made some fire in her palm and almost lit her cigarete with fire at another time. She also had palm flames again in Angels and Monsters and her use of fire in the shipping container needs to be in here as well. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 17:58, 18 October 2008 (EDT)
I put them all up earlier (: User:Samstorey 21:13; 20 Otober 2008
Separate Examples Page
We are getting quite a few images for this ability, now. Perhaps a separate examples page should be created? Isaacthepainter 06:41, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
- Definitely. In fact, there are a whole bunch of examples missing from the page--like from Peter (explosion future) and Maarten. See Image:Fire man 1.png and Image:Fire in moab.JPG, to name just a few. I think HiroDynoSlayer had worked on a few over at User:HiroDynoSlayer/Pyrokinesis/Examples of pyrokinesis. In the meantime, I'll undelete examples of pyrokinesis and mark it as a stub so it can be worked on. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:50, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
- By all means. When the number of examples gets beyond twelve, an expanded Examples page is perfectly appropriate. --Ted C 12:21, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
Vulnerability
Considering Thompson was able to prevent her from using her abilities with the gloves, should we mention that pyrokinesis can be used only with ones hands? Or at least that Meredith can only use it with her hands? Intuitive Empath 18:06, 15 November 2008 (EST)
- Sure, why not? Nice catch; I didn't notice that... Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 18:24, 15 November 2008 (EST)
- Actually, I just noticed this one because Ryan uploaded a picture of it, I went came here to see if there was any mention to it and there wasn't. My only real catch so far is the "Meredith-might-meet-Nathan" at the end of Playing with Fire. Intuitive Empath 18:55, 15 November 2008 (EST)
- I think it's very significant that she was wearing flame retardant gloves. Thompson also threatened to place her in an asbestos-lined cell, which would resist heat. I'd be willing to bet that Flint's cell was lined with asbestos. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:36, 15 November 2008 (EST)

Bit late on this discussion but doesn't Claude mention that she exploded? Wouldn't that require flame coming from more parts of your body than just your hands?--Steelymcbeam 03:50, 25 February 2009 (EST)
- She did kind of explode in the end of Dual, but that was after she lost control over her ability cause Sylar pumped her with adrenaline. I would say it's possible, but that Meredith has never had enough control to channel her ability in a way other than her hand. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:12, 25 February 2009 (EST)
Worth mentioning?
Assuming the color of their fire is based on the same factors as in the real world then Flint's would be 1670 K (1400 °C) & Mer's would be 1070 K (800 °C). Source for numbers. --Snow Leapord 12:49, 19 November 2008 (EST)
- Definitely worth mentioning in the notes section. Good call. ~~ Darmenos 16:06, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
Different Elemental and Biological levels
I don't know if this is worth mentioning but if you look at the AT of both Meredith and Flint you can see that they have different elemental and biological levels
Maybe their control indexes or the way they developed and used their abilities influences this kind of stuff. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:33, 9 December 2008 (EST)
And maybe that also causes the different colors in their flames. -- Signyour Poste
Only if those differences account for temperature change, cause that's the only difference between regular and blue fire. Peter?
Peter has now been exposed to blue pyrokinesis. Should he be listed as no exposed but unconfirmed???also do you think when he next shows an ability he will use blue or orange, if this is the next ability he used perhaps it is a tell tale that he has regained his old abiltiys if he used red and got to start over if its blue??? Fred1793 09:46, 18 December 2008 (EST)
- We can't confirm that Peter has any ability other than flight right now. That is all that he has shown manifested onscreen since he injected himself. We don't know conclusively yet if the injection brought back his original power of Empathic mimicry (probably), or if it just gave him flight only. You will probably be right...but we need to see Peter manifest another different ability besides flight to confirm that he now has his original ability back (and the exposure to Flint also gave him pyrokinesis. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/18/2008 10:27 (EST)
- Perfectly said. Once Peter demonstrates another ability, we can say he was exposed to pyrokinesis (but not "blue pyrokinesis", since that's not a distinct ability). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:02, 18 December 2008 (EST)
- The only difference between Meredith's and Flint's power is heat. Hotter flame will appear blue. The only reason Peter had "blue fire" in I Am Become Death is because he was exposed to Flint (and his advanced control of the power). --Ricard Desi 12:17, 18 December 2008 (EST)

How does anyone feel about changing the main image to Flint burning the bystander Just a suggestion to change things up. --Catalyst 20:17 11 December 2009
