Getting lengthy
The GN list is getting pretty lengthy. I say we define all GN issues by TV season. So all September 2006 - August 2007 issues would be "Season One GN issues", etc. This could be an easy way to make the nav-bars smaller too. ---- 01:51, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- That or the first 50, and so on.--Bob 01:56, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
Check out User:Ohmyn0/sandbox for one idea. ---- 01:58, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- I like this idea a lot, actually. Even though cutting the GNs off by season is a bit arbitrary, we're eventually going to have to do it, and it makes for a nice parallel. The only other logical cut-off would be at the point where the printed compilation ends, wherever that is.--Hardvice (talk) 02:02, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- Which one do you like of the two I have in my sandbox. One or Two? (I've just labeled them) ----
02:05, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- Personally, I like number one. Unless we go more than four or five seasons, I don't think the line breaks will be a problem (and we can always put completed seasons on one line and the current season on another, even then). It just looks cleaner and clearer to me.--Hardvice (talk) 02:13, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- Another thing we can do, once we figure out who the main and supporting season two characters are, is do the same thing for characters: add a link to the season one portals, and then just list the current season characters.--Hardvice (talk) 02:14, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- I like the first option better, too. I'm fine with making the break at the first season (cutting it off where the Graphic Novel Collection ends leaves the summer GNs out in the cold), but I'm not sure I like doing it for the beginning of September. Since it's already somewhat arbitrary, I'd rather anything released before Four Months Later (#1-51) in one set, and anything released after (#52-??) in the next set. Either that, or cut it off at a nice number like 50 and call it "Issues #1-50" instead of "Season One". -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:26, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- Actually, cutting it off at 50 seems a lot safer to me, because then we're not assigning a season to something that has no season. Yeah, I would personally rather see "Issues #1-50", or whatever number we agree upon. I just don't want to make an arbitrary break and call it a season. If we're breaking it up for the purposes of the site, that's fine, but we should at least respect that the creators have not designated seasons for the graphic novels. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:30, 26 September 2007 (EDT)

I've made some changes. Better? ---- 20:02, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
- I personally like it, though I would either put both the "archived" episodes and graphic novels on the same line as the current one, or put them both on separate lines. Right now, the links to archived episodes are on new lines, and the links to archived GNs are on the bulleted line. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:49, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
Graphic novel links
There is a link for issues #1-50, but the page that links to is just a list of all of them, not specific to #1-50. Currently, there are pages for #1-12, 13-24, 25-36, 37-48, 49-58, and 59-present. Should the index have a similar breakdown? --Psiphiorg 03:16, 14 November 2007 (EST)
Add more categories
I think that we should add more categories/sections to this. I fixed it up a little in my User:Ohmyn0/sandbox. Since abilities are a major part of the show, I believe they deserve to be on the Main Page. If this idea doesn't fly, we could always change it up and make the index something like Nathan Petrelli (flight). ---- 22:34, 19 February 2008 (EST)
Example One
Example Two
- I'm only concerned this template getting too big. I'd actually rather see abilities than the supporting characters. Even then, there are a ton of abilities, and it seems like the list keeps growing. Perhaps we can just put a select few (maybe 15) with a "more..." link. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:49, 19 February 2008 (EST)
- I agree with Ryan. Adding abilities would make it rather large. I'd actually prefer for the Main Page to slim down, but I'm not going to actively campaign for it. Regardless, I think a link to the ability portal is plenty acceptable. -- Lulu (talk) 22:58, 19 February 2008 (EST)
- I wouldn't worry too much about the size of the template. It's intended to just sit at the bottom of the main page and act almost like a sitemap that provides a raw link to some of the most relevant pages. I think it's ok to have a long main page as long as the sections are essentially ordered from the most used to the lesser used. That way if someone finds the info they need they won't even necessarily have to go through the rest of the page, but if they don't (or if they're a search engine) then the main page continues to have even more information that's relevent. The extra links might be beneficial in terms of search rankings since the template sits on our main page. That being said whatever we add to the template we should make sure it's the most relevent. Perhaps, for instance, if we list abilities we could limit them to the abilities of the characters that are also listed in the template or limit it to just powers that appeared in actual episodes or something. (Admin 23:34, 19 February 2008 (EST))
- That all sounds reasonable to me. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:23, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- Listing only episodic powers seems like a smart idea indeed. -- Seclusion talk / contribs 00:31, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- I'll work on making two different prototypes that we can discuss. I should hopefully finish sometime this evening. ----

- The two are above. I personally like the first one because it covers a lot more story information, but I think the italicized abilities look bangin'. ----
17:47, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- My preference is for the first one as well. I don't really like the mixing of the characters with their powers, personally, since to me it's just supposed to be an index. Adding the powers after the character names doesn't feel right to me, I dont know about anyone else. It also feels more difficult to scan it looking for a particular character or ability. (Admin 17:50, 20 February 2008 (EST))
- I concur. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:02, 20 February 2008 (EST)

Since there hasn't been any major opposition to the update, I'm going to go ahead and change the actual template so we can see how it looks on the main page. ---- 18:48, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- Wasn´t clairsentience an Evolutions ability? In the first example, it´s classified as an episode ability :) --Referos 19:34, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- You're right, it wasn't shown in an episode, it was part of Bridget Bailey's story in the UK version of Evolutions. (Admin 19:47, 20 February 2008 (EST))
Elements section
To fill in the white space left in the elements section due to the number of abilities to the left, shouldn't we list more elements? We could either list things from the government's hunt or the Carnival. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:21, 3 November 2009 (EST)

Only current season abilities
We only list characters, episodes and GNs from the current season. Should we do the same with abilities? This would help clear the template a bit and reduce the whitespace due to the smaller size of the elements section.--Referos 15:46, 18 January 2010 (EST)

I don't mind only listing this season's episodes, webisodes, and graphic novels. However, I don't like the idea of only listing this season's abilities. It means a lot more maintenance, because we would have to add to the list every time an ability (old or new) is used, as opposed to just adding new abilities as we do now. (Does that make sense? It does to me, but rereading it, it sounds confusing.) If the issue is whitespace, we can switch columns around from the left to the right and vice versa until they even themselves out a bit. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:40, 7 February 2010 (EST)
- I understood it and I think that yes it will mean more editing, but after say 6 or 7 episodes, only few will need to be added. And like the first episode might give ten or twenty, making it easy to do in one edit. The only problem I see is that the webisodes section is out of place. ~~IHH—Talk 09:54, 7 February 2010 (EST)
Main Page Edit Button
On the Main Page, the Edit Button on this template goes to a "Bad Title." I have tried to fix this a couple of times, but for some reason it is not working. Can you help? ~~IHH—Talk 09:25, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
- It looks like #urlencode: does not work. It is used in Template:Querylink. There is also a #ifeq: used, I think that was having problems. -Lөvөl 11:10, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
