Slow Burn
In chapter 1 of Slow Burn, the milk can toss attendant tells Chris Bowman to ask Bo about New Orleans. When Chris goes to talk to him, he finds Bo playing multiple instruments with his power. The two friends talk, and Chris asks him if he is happy at the carnival. Bo says it is great there, and he has never been happier, because he can play his music all the time, and doesn't have to worry about hiding his ability.
When Chris asks him about New Orleans, Bo gets upset and asks who told Chris about that, but he refuses to tell. Bo says that after Hurricane Katrina, he had not been a good man and had led a criminal life. He refuses to discuss it anymore, and says the carnival is a second chance, a place to become a better person. He hands Chris a harmonica, saying music has kept him at peace no matter what, and that it could do the same for him.
In chapter 3 of Slow Burn, Chris Bowman returns to the sideshow tent to talk to Bo. Chris tells him that he has tried to play the harmonica that Bo gave him, surpising Bo. When Chris tries to aplogize for asking about Bo's past, he tells him that it is unesscary, and that he needs to learn to open up more. They move to a secluded area of the tent, and Bo bends a spoon above his head while they talk. Bo tells Chris that he lost his whole immediate family and his jazz studio to Hurricane Katrina. His cousin Lonny offered him a way to get back on his feet, and they began to rob places around New Orleans, and when his ability manifested, Lonny wanted to go after bigger targets. Bo decided he wanted to stop, and left New Orleans while Lonny robbed a Burger Bonanza. He made his way to the carnival.
Chris tells him that he understands, and Bo asks him if he has anything that he wants to get off his chest. When Chris doesn't ansewer, Bo tells him that whenever he feels like he can talk about it, he will be there. Chris gives him the description of the Watcher and asks if Bo has ever seen him. Bo says no, and is very disturbed by this, as he thought he knew all the other carnies, and tells Chris to give him a heads up if he finds him.
In chapter 7 of Slow Burn, Bo enters Samuel's tent and finds Caleb and Chris arguing. After Caleb runs away, Bo tells Chris that he has noticed that he and his family have been acting odd lately. Chris tells Bo about his past with Mary Krause and about how he let her get captured and eventually get killed. He claims that he could have done something more to help her but Bo tells him that while what he did was wrong, there is nothing he can do about it. He tells Chris that all he can do is move forward and seek redemption. Chris then tells Bo about The Watcher and Bo says that he will help him fight. He calls Chris his brother, which makes Chris feel as if he has finally connected with someone.
In chapter 9 of Slow Burn, Bo stands alongside Chris and Gail and tells them that it is time they fight back against the "The Watcher". Gail worries about Jennie's safety and Bo reassures her that he will help protect them. Bo then suggests they ask the other carnies about the Watcher. Deciding to find Evan, Bo and Chris talk about The Watcher with Evan. Evan reveals his own meeting with the target and Bo wonders if he is one of them. After this meeting, Bo and Chris go and find Aviv, who is helping his son with his ability. Bo gets straight to the point with Aviv and Chris tells him about The Watcher. Bo listens as Aviv reveals his connections and Bo states it is Chris' decision whether or not to take it to Samuel. Bo goes with the Bowmans and sees Samuel, who confirms they will hunt down the Watcher as a family.
In chapter 10 of Slow Burn, Bo ambushes The Watcher with the other carnies, and traps him by wrapping a piece of metal around him. However, The Watcher retaliates by blinding all of them. Bo tells Chris he can feel The Watcher trying to break free of the sheet metal, and when The Watcher realizes he cannot break free of the metal, he restores their vision. Bo suggests they take him inside Samuel’s trailer, where Lydia reveals his name to be Henry.
The Puppet Master
In chapter 2 of The Puppet Master, Samuel introduces Bo to Doyle. He welcomes Doyle to the family, to which Doyle replies he is just taking the tour. Bo demonstrates his ability by bending a spoon into a eagle, and tells Doyle that they can all just be themselves at the carnival.
Purpose
In chapter 4 of Purpose, Bo rushes past John Mulligan with Aviv and other carnies to join a gathering crowd. He and Pearl later join Chris inside his trailer when the Bowmans find John and The Watcher in it. He tells Chris that he should hear John out and tries to hold him back, but Chris breaks free and charges John.
In chapter 5 of Purpose, Bo fights alongside Chris and Pearl against John. When Pearl is knocked down by John, both Bo and Chris rush to help her. In an alternate event, Bo confronts John, who tells him to think about Samuel's actions. Bo nods in agreement with John and allows him to escape.
Evolved Human Abilities
Bo has the ability to control metal. He uses it to manipulate his instruments into making sounds no one could normally make, and to play multiple instruments at once.
