Jacob Kurtzberg was the lawyer representing the Sullivan Bros. Carnival. He was killed by Edgar after attempting to free Samuel Sullivan from prison.

On February 9, 2011, Jacob Kurtzberg appears on a news show to discuss the unlawful imprisonment of his client, Samuel Sullivan. He tells its host that, even though he is his lawyer, he has not been told where Samuel is being held or even what he was charged with when he was arrested. Kurtzberg is sure that the only valid charge anyone could make against the Sullivan Bros. Carnival is setting up the carnival in Central Park without a permit. He insists that the carnival would be willing to pay whatever fine the city of New York demanded, but no demands have been made at all.
On September 20, 2011, Kurtzberg wheels himself towards his room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. After months of being stonewalled, he had finally succeeded in getting a judge to set up a meeting between him and Samuel. Kurtzberg knows that Samuel is guilty of the murders of Joseph, Lydia, and many more, but because it cannot be proved that Samuel committed them, he believes that Samuel should be free to go. Just as Kurtzberg opens the door to his hotel room, Edgar speeds through the door and appears in the middle of the room. When Edgar asks Kurtzberg if he is trying to get Samuel out of prison, Kurtzberg replies that he is. Edgar instantly slashes Kurtzberg's throat with his knives and Kurtzberg falls to the floor. The last words Kurtzberg hears are "Samuel's stayin' in his hole for's long as possible. Forever'd be best".
Kurtzberg's murder is reported on the news the following day and is attributed to an evo. Political pressure is put on The President to revise the Evo Registration Act as a result.
Notes
- Kurtzberg had close-cropped salt-and-pepper hair and was wheelchair-bound. He wore large plastic-framed glasses and a slightly rumpled suit.
