Interview
- Hey Ryan, I want to ask you something. Could I interview the creator of Zeroes and post the interview on the Zeroes page? Of course I would tell him about Heroeswiki first and let him on insite before the interviewing? What do you think?
- It sounds like a fantastic idea. Any Heroes Wiki mention would be really nice, but not required, of course. Let me know if I can help in any way. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:17, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
Episode:EpisodeTitle
Hey Ryan, I don't understand I've red links on the Special:Wantedpages for each episode, red links looks like this [[Episode:Gensesis]](1 link), or 2 sometimes... but when I click to check out where the damn red link is, I get the 1342334234 pages that actually link to this VALID link. So wtf ? I don't get it.. -- FrenchFlo (talk) 15:52, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- All the episode pages were recently changed so that Episode: is now a valid namespace (much like Category: or Template:). It could be that your cache needs to be flushed. Depending on your browser, you'll want to type F5 or shift-F5, or whatever you do to refresh. Try that and let me know if it fixes the problem. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:15, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Hm, mine's showing it too. Just cleaned the cache too, still there. I click on the red link, and it shows the text of the article as if I just clicked the edit link (which, in theory, is a red link). Something wrong with the server?--Bob 17:17, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Someone swapped in the test.heroeswiki.com domain this morning for the home page and several templates. Someone with admin perms should check the server-side code for the special page to make sure it's not still in there. It's not editable or viewable by us normal folk.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:35, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Okay, I'm here now. I'm not showing any problems on special:wantedpages. I'd be glad to check the server-side code, but I'm not exactly sure how. If somebody wants to guide me through it, that'd be great. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:01, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- After now reading the help, I see that special pages are updated automatically by the wiki software, so now I don't think we have to mess with it (in fact, all the bad links are gone now). FWIW, special pages appear to be just protected pages. You can read more help on them here and more about how to unrestrict access to edit them/add new ones here. Essentially, it looks like you have to view/edit LocalSettings.php on the server.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:33, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- I'm not sure how you saw test.heroeswiki.com, MiamiVolts, unless perhaps you went there manually at some point or someone had a link here you clicked on? I was working on the test site today, but haven't touched the production site so there shouldn't have been any problems. (Admin 23:36, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
- Actually, it may be because I didnt define the new custom namespaces within the test site. Doh! Then when the test site went checking for wantedpages it couldn't find the Episode articles. Sounds like a possibility there. (Admin 23:38, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
- That was most likely it. The Main_Page of the normal site had all its links pointed to the test site but there were no articles. Thus, the test site's special:wantedpages article had a whole lot of bad links that somehow carried over to the normal site when changed back. It's fixed now, though.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:46, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- That makes sense. Thanks for figuring that out. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:02, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

New Article Buttons
- Can you give me a run-down on setting these up? (I know I did the welcome button, but I'm brainfarting). I'd like to add some more, specifically for things we already have layout templates for.--Hardvice (talk) 22:58, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Check out MediaWiki:Newarticletext. All the fun stuff's in there. (Admin 23:32, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
- Sure. That's one of my summer projects, but I'd love it if you wanted to add some now.
- Go to MediaWiki:Newarticletext.
- Copy one of the buttons and add it where you want. Make sure you change the name that appears on the button (which is located last) and the template you want preloaded (which is after preload, of course). For instance, if you want to add a button for references, make sure the button says "reference" and the template is something like Template:Newpage_Reference.
- That's basically it for Newarticletext. Now start the template you referenced. For instance, Template:Newpage_Reference.
- This is the hardest part. On the template, add all the layout stuff as needed. Unfortunately you can't add too much code to the page since it will preload exactly as you type. In fact, the only thing I've been successful in adding is the <includeonly> tags. And really you should add these tags at the very beginning and end of the template so that any categories you have on the page aren't attributed to the template.
- That's it, really. Just a note about adding the layout for the Template:newpage_whatever: I also made simple directions (Template:Newpage_directions) which appear at the top of the new page that is being edited. They basically say that anything in all caps should be deleted. I've been following the format you've used on help:layout--CAPS are for notes to the user....Hope that helps. Let me know if you have a more specific question. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:02, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- Could one of you change the lead description part so that it says "A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE '''PLACE''' "? I think that would be more descriptive and helpful. Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 23:38, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
- No problem. I agree, that is a better lead. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:00, 16 May 2007 (EDT)

Sylar's Unknown Power
- im just curious, did you take off the whole "is it radioactivity or is it pyrokenesis" thing on sylar (future)'s page?--Pred 0212 18:46, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- I'm not quite sure what you mean. I just went through the entire history for Sylar (future) and I never saw any kind of radioactivity/pyrokinesis debate. I saw that somebody had put James Walker as the originator of cryokinesis (which is preposterous) and that somebody else removed it (which is commendable), but I didn't see anything related to what you're talking about either in the discussion page or the main article space. There is, however, a good discussion about whether Future Peter has induced radioactivity or pyrokinesis over here. Is that what you're looking for? In either case, I didn't take anything off. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:18, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- oh....so it was under the peter petrelli (future) article. lol i guess i didnt remember where it was, i was trying to find it to show a friend and i just assumed it was under future sylar's...yea i fail. i wasnt accusing you just wondering what happened haha thx :)--Pred 0212 01:32, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Additional Fun with Sibilants
- The sibilant exception only occurs when a word's penultimate syllable is also a sibilant (meaning the possessive would result in a triple sibilant), not merely when a word ends in a single sibilant. "Belonging to Trunks" is always "Trunks's"; "Belonging to Isis" can be either " Isis's " or (more frequently) " Isis' ".--Hardvice (talk) 02:35, 5 May 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks, that makes sense. I've always seen " belonging to Jesus " as " Jesus' " and never liked it (though I know it makes sense). So you're saying that unless the second-to-last syllable is a sibilant, then it must be " 's " (like "Judas's"). Okay, got it. Thanks man. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:27, 5 May 2007 (EDT)
- Strunk, White, and I believe so, but it's really a style issue, not a grammar issue, so some others argue either it's always apostrophe-s (I think the Chicago manual does it this way) or always just an apostrophe (I know the AP used to do it this way and it annoyed me) when the singular ends in a sibilant. There was, incidentally, a huge debate a few years back about the possessive of "Arkansas" (which ends in an alleged "silent sibilant", which I feel is oxymoronic) which culminated in a group of grammar Nazis petitioning for (and getting) a State resolution declaring it to be Arkansas's by fiat. I guess that's what's meant by possession being nine-tenths of the law :)--Hardvice (talk) 16:53, 5 May 2007 (EDT)
- Ooh, Arkansas, never thought of that one. I'm sure the Nazis had different propaganda for their agenda, but yes, "silent sibilant" is a great oxymoron. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:35, 5 May 2007 (EDT)
- Wait, what the heck is sibilant? Heroe!(talk) (contribs) Random Page! 20:03, 5 May 2007 (EDT)

I went back to Albania where I spent another year or so, but was evacuated again because the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania was bombed. There were rumors that the dudes from Al-Queda were hiding out in Albania, so they evacuated us for good measure. Crazy times. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:32, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

My Characters Template Change
Ryan wrote: (main characters are not our distinction, but NBC's. Besides, Simone (and probably Isaac) will appear in 2 more episodes ... if we have a section for dead chars, shouldn't we list them all?) My intent on that change was not to promote or demote anyone from the 3 class-structures listed. I agree with you that NBC is driving those three distinctions....but they are kinda inconsistent in continuing to carry some dead characters as if they are main, supporting, or reoccurring; when many of them have been doorknob dead for half the season or more. My reason for the deceased category was simply to have a place to group dead people, (and if the resurrect, fine...we can easily move them out when they become alive again)....so that the three main categories (Main, Supporting, and Reoccuring) only contain live and actually active castmembers. It just makes it look as if some of the long-dead characters are active and alive the way they are listed in the three main categories...even though NBC continues to do it this way. If this idea is really not worth considering, could we do a superscript notation on those dead people until they are no longer dead, or a color, or something descriptive? Those of us who watch the show and follow it closely have no problem knowing who is who; and what their status is; but there are alot of folks who watch the show and haven't seen all the epis, and don't even know everyone's name yet, much less the fact that they died 4 or 5 months ago. Just looking for a better way to make that distinction with the template. Is there any way to do this other than doing nothing? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 05/9/2007 13:38 (EST)
- First, I like the idea of somehow denoting that they're dead. This should probably be done the same as we do it everywhere else: with italics. I'll take care of that now. I don't think separating them into another row on an already-bloated bar is a good idea. Besides, if we have a row called "Deceased Characters", we should probably list them all, not just a select few, and I probably don't need to tell you how messy that would look. :) As for dead people not being active, says who? Chandra has appeared plenty of times (and is still listed as a supporting character) and he's been dead since before the show began.... Personally, I really don't care what we do with the supporting and recurring characters since that's our own designation anyway, but I don't feel comfortable taking anybody (even dead-as-a-doornail characters) out of the Main Characters since that's NBC's distinction, not ours. I'm sure it'll all (necessarily) change during the summer, so we probably don't have too much to worry about. But for now, let's just denote the dead guys with italics. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:47, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

- OK, I'm off to bed. The synopsis for the new episode that got posted still needs a lot of work. It's missing quite a bit, there's tons of perspective problems, and I only made it about halfway through adding links, but it should at least be spelled more-or-less properly now. Other than that, all is mostly well. See ya!--Hardvice (talk) 06:48, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

- Yeah, I'm pretty honored....Jason is the first to admit he's not a colorist by trade, but I think he knocked this one out of the park....He actually said he was kind of considering paying Annette Kwok recolor it just to see how the two versions would compare. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:14, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

Sometimes, an entire sentence can be spelled the same backwards and forwards: Madam, I'm Adam. A man, a plan, a canal: Panama. For some very odd reason, I like to have my gas prices equal palindromic numbers: $31.13 or $29.92 (or, as it seems in recent days, $74.47). — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:02, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

BUT - The volume of activity on this site, from visitors to the ineveitable addition of pages, is seriously lagging this site out. I expected this anyway since it's the last episode. --Riddler 22:43, 21 May 2007 (EDT)

- haha. Don't worry, I'll probably be moving it over to a server of its own soon now. MediaWiki likes a lot of newer versions of things (PHP, MySQL, etc.) and getting multiple versions of that software to all play nicely together on my existing server is just increasing the complexity and reducing some of my options. Kaito Nakamura's possibility of power
A week ago I changed Kaito's power to "Unknown" and you changed it back. I didn't think that was fair at the time but because of work I couldn't spare the time to build an argument about it, which I know can.
I don't know if it is wiki policy to maintain "None" as the Power of the characters that do not have a confirmed power, but someone classified Charles Deveaux's power as "Unknown". That I know of, the only pointers to that are his appearances in Peter's dreams, but then again, Peter dreams about pretty much everyone throughout the season, so I fail to see where that constitutes a legitimate argument.
Furthermore, you are breaking that policy yourself by stating that James Walker has an unknown power. Although that is a fair assumption, as Sylar did kill him ("bogeyman" reference) and he never, that we know of, took the brain of a normal human (and he says several times that he has no interest in killing normal humans - both in The Hard Part and in How to Stop an Exploding Man), it is not 100% a fact.
I have difficulty in accepting such a blurry line of "here is None and here is Unknown", still I will add a section arguing about Kaito's power in Theories:People#Kaito Nakamura and leave your *opinion* in his profile. And more: I'll bet you he IS evolved... and I dare you to bet me otherwise ;)--N4d4br0v1tchk4
- "None" is the standard for characters that aren't confirmed to have a power. James Walker says "Unknown" because we know he had a power, we just don't know what it is. Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 20:21, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
- lol I don't see what you said that I hadn't said already... how do you KNOW he had a power? What constitutes KNOWLEDGE? ;P Anyway, Charles Deveraux is much less likely (IMHO) to be an evolved human than Kaito Nakamura and he has the right to a "Unknown". Why? Btw, as promissed, my arguments about Kaito's likeliness to be evolved are now in the Theories:People#Kaito Nakamura page. --N4d4br0v1tchk4 20:56, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
- Update: I just refreshed Charles' page and User:Ice Vision already changed it to "None".
- Charles, James, and Kaito should all read "None". The field is for "Known powers", not "Powers". Saying "None" doesn't mean the individual doesn't have powers, it merely means that none are known. The reason the field is labeled that way is to avoid these kinds of discussions and stick to confirmed information. There should be no need to debate who is "more likely" to have powers--we simply only mention confirmed powers. James Walker is a confirmed evolved human, but he still has no "known powers".--Hardvice (talk) 23:37, 22 May 2007 (EDT)

- Actually, when you put "Unknown" in the field, it changes "Known powers" to just "Power". There has been a lot of confusion about confirmed evolved humans with unknown powers. Though "Known power: None" is correct, so is "Power: Unknown". Putting "None" is misleading, and there has been a lot of confusion over this issue as of late. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:56, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
- Sylar took James Walker's brain, but not Mrs. Walker's. James was an evolved human. (The existence of his daughter's power is further evidence that James had a "power gene" to pass on.) The site's policy is to put "Unknown" for those who have a power but the power is unknown. Those that have not demonstrated a power or are not confirmed to be an evolved human have "None" entered for their "Known power". I'm not sure why you're daring me to do anything, but sure, I agree with you that Kaito probably has a power, too. However, that's just an opinion--it's just a guess, no matter how educated it may be. To put anything else would be speculation. As for Charles, I'm reserving judgment right now. I don't rule over the site any more than Ice Vision, you, or anyone else does. But I'm leaving Charles's page until we're able to make some sort of decision. If you want my opinion, I kind of agree with Ice Vision that it wasn't a very clear demonstration of a power, and was an even less clear confirmation of him being evolved. That said, with the exception of Charles, I don't see any blurry lines. I'm sorry you do. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:21, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
- James Walker's name has been stated to be on the List...Harter 22:24, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
- Yeah, that too. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:41, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
- Personally, I think that if it's such a minor character that the field should be left blank (like Frank). If it's someone more important (Kaito, Angela, etc.), then it should be "None" unless it is explicitly stated they are an evolved human and not someone who has "power" (I have power, it gives me electricity to run my house, doesn't mean I can fly).--Bob 02:41, 29 May 2007 (EDT)
- Okay, but every character right now, minor or not, has something written for the "power" line in their character box. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:25, 29 May 2007 (EDT)

Size
- Find out what size shirt he wears and I'll make sure to order an extra one for him once I see how the shirt comes out. (Admin 10:30, 28 May 2007 (EDT))
Blocking
Thanks for blocking the vandal.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:35, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
- I wasn't checking recent changes--I wouldn't have known if he hadn't vandalized my talk page. Duh. How stupid can you be? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:36, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
- Well no wonder no one was helping me! --Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 22:39, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
- Yeah, next time just alert an admin. That way we can block him and then take care of the reverts. Plus, admins have a rollback function that make it really easy for us to revert vandalism. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:40, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
- Exactly. I get notified on my Blackberry when my talk page is modified, so if you add a section labeled "Vandal" or something I'll see it quickly and I can block a user pretty quickly from my Blackberry regardless of where I am. (Admin 22:42, 28 May 2007 (EDT))
- So was Ikusagami also a vandal? Should we check for other graffiti?--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:49, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
- It's too soon to tell. He's only made one edit. --Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 22:51, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
- Nah, the IP of the vandal that was blocked was unique to that person. Incidentally, that vandal came here using a link from Encyclopedia Dramatica, so I guess his behavior wasn't all that surprising. (Admin 22:52, 28 May 2007 (EDT))
- So I take that back, Ikusagami was doing a little vandalism, but they did come from different IPs. (Admin 23:00, 28 May 2007 (EDT))
- Right. I did a 2-hour block just to have it logged. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:52, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

- Well, I guess I'm still living in the Stone Age, Mr. Blackberry! :) That's good to know that you get alerted. If I need your attention immediately, I guess I'll just label the section "You won the lottery" or something. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:50, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

The Engineer-Amid Halebi
Kring has confirmed Omid Abtahi's character as being named Amid Halebi.[1] Should we move it?--Cylon 21:18, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
- I'd rather continue calling him engineer and fix Omid Abtahi to redirect to his page. But his page should probably be updated to reflect his formal name. RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:41, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
