Those new accounts

Looks like you have a lot of banning to do. --Ciwey 23:05, 28 November 2008 (EST)

  • Thanks for bringing that to my attention! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:08, 28 November 2008 (EST)
    • There's a bunch more to block now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:43, 28 November 2008 (EST)
      • Isn't there a IP ban for cases like this? --Piemanmoo 23:47, 28 November 2008 (EST)
        • Admin does the IP bans. I'm not quite sure how. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:48, 28 November 2008 (EST)
          • This is bullshit. It's obviously one of those new members that have been sprouting on the wiki with their stupid subpages.--Citizen 00:33, 29 November 2008 (EST)
          • If you're interested in learning about IP blocking, this may help you. IP banning is part of the Special:BlockIP form which only administrators can view, so I'm not sure how Admin has configured it here, but I do know the default allows you to leave a checkmark that blocks the last ip of a blocked username and autoblocks any subsequent IPs the user tries to edit from. Also, there's normally a link at the bottom to the other special pages that show the history of what is blocked and why.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:52, 29 November 2008 (EST)
            • Yeah, I know how to do IP blocking...I don't know how to find out the IP address. Once I have the address, I can block the IP no problem. I've done it in the past by using my wife's blog, which records all the IP addresses that visit the blog. However, TEN seems to have stopped visiting my wife's blog (thank goodness--she has nothing to do with stuff that happens on the wiki, and it's not fair for her--or my kids--to see the messages he's left there), so I can't figure out what IP he's coming from. Thanks, though. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:10, 29 November 2008 (EST)
              • Ah, I see. From what I can tell, then, only Admin can do the IP search and he does so by manually performing a scan on the database. However, there is also an extension Admin can add, called Extension:CheckUser, which will enable ip access to users he gives a special 'checkuser' permission. Perhaps you can ask if would consider adding it for you?--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:37, 29 November 2008 (EST)

Might legal action be in order if this keeps up? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:02, 1 December 2008 (EST)

  • Yes. Admin is looking into it. I believe he will be contacting the guy's provider. The idiot has used his school computer, too. Dumbass. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:04, 1 December 2008 (EST)
    • I'm working up an e-mail to Admin with a couple other suggestions to consider about this. I'll copy you, though have you already asked him about extension CheckUser?--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:40, 1 December 2008 (EST)
      • I'm not comfortable making that information available to others yet. He's using some proxies so it wouldn't be terribly effective in this case anyway. If this changes I'll consider the extension. (Admin 00:45, 1 December 2008 (EST))
        • Ok, e-mail sent, subject "HeroesWiki user creation". Have a good night.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:35, 1 December 2008 (EST)
          • Any news on the matter? He created two accounts right now. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:21, 21 December 2008 (EST)
            • The only bad thing is that it seems TEN is making new accounts on different comp's and that he is making lots off different email addresses Gabriel Bishop 16:11, 1 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

Proxies

Is there anyway to block proxy access to the site? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 07:34, 1 December 2008 (EST)

  • Dunno. I'm sure if there is, Admin will look into it. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:55, 1 December 2008 (EST)
    • You can block the IP's of the proxies used, but then depending on where the proxy program is hosted, you could also be blocking other people's valid use of the site. That's why IP blocking is sometimes a bit tricky.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:02, 1 December 2008 (EST)
      • Is there anyway to make sure the site is accessible only via a fix IP and not by a proxy? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:53, 1 December 2008 (EST)
        • Many ISP's also use dynamic IP's for their customers, so it isn't that easy. If you're interested in learning more about proxies, see here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:24, 1 December 2008 (EST)

Episode Talk: Eclipse 2

Baldbobbo deleted the talk page for Eclipse 2 at some point last week, and no one in their right mind is going to recreate a topic deleted by a mod. As a result, nothing is happening on the topic. Perhaps you could create it?--Falcomadol 22:02, 1 December 2008 (EST)

  • Nevermind, someone broke what would be taboo for me :)--Falcomadol 22:05, 1 December 2008 (EST)

Kristin

  • Hah. Kristin called Sam and Frack "a walking Heroes Wiki of storyline trivia". :) (Admin 01:52, 2 December 2008 (EST))
    • Love it! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:52, 2 December 2008 (EST)
      • Awesome, a Heroes Interactive ref and a Kristin E-Online ref all in the same night. Great! :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:02, 2 December 2008 (EST)
        • Oh, very cool. I don't usually follow the Heroes Interactive so I didn't see it until you pointed it out. (Admin 02:05, 2 December 2008 (EST))

Noah's Brother

I made my own page on Noah Bennet's brother and it has got my name before it! But can you just scale the image down a bit please? Cheers.  :) Noah Bennet And The Whale 13:09, 2 December 2008

DMB shows

It looks like he definitely has both shows, but I wanted to make sure about the Newport News/Va. Beach show before proceeding. Looking at the list of shows from 2003, was it the one at Old Dominion University on 3-26-03 you were looking for? --Stevehim 13:42, 2 December 2008 (EST)

South Park Heroes

Hi I Have This Image I Would Like To Put It On The South Park Heroes Page. Here It Is... Gabriel Bishop 16:55, 2 December 2008

  • I think we generally add images of one character at a time. Perhaps you could break the image into several images? I don't personally have any objections to the image, but I don't have a whole lot invested in that fan creation page. I would take it to the talk page and ask if anybody has any objections there. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:04, 2 December 2008 (EST)

Deleted Scenes

  • Hey Ryan, I created a page for the deleted scenes of heroes, but i dunno where exactly to place it... User:NiveKJ13/Deleted Scenes
    • This better be accepted, I worked on it for like 2 hours, lol XD and by the way, can you somehow help me improve it, it looks kinda messy...tnx --NiveKJ13 17:59, 2 December 2008 (EST)
      • I don't really like having acceptance demanded of me, so I sure hope you're saying that lightly or jokingly. In any case, a brief summary of deleted scenes can go on episode pages (see Episode:Fallout#Deleted Scenes). More detailed information can go on the DVD pages (see Heroes: The Complete Second Season (DVD)#Deleted_Scenes. Pertinent information can go in the notes of appropriate pages (see D.L. Hawkins#Notes). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:26, 2 December 2008 (EST)
      • I was jokin man, lol XD the "this better be accepted" is clearly a joke...lolz...nevermind about it...
        • No worries. It's sometimes hard to tell a person's tone when it's read on the internet. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:10, 2 December 2008 (EST)
        • I really dont get it, cant we just make a new page for Deleted scenes? like that one that I did?....--NiveKJ13 18:51, 2 December 2008 (EST)
          • I'm not a big fan of it personally, if you're asking my opinion. I'd rather include the information on the DVD pages. But you can take it to the talk pages (like here). Incidentally, there was an old discussion about this when the first DVD came out, which you can read here. There's a newer, more definitive discussion after the second DVD came out, which you can read here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:09, 2 December 2008 (EST)

Samedi's assignment tracker file

can you give me the password of Samedi's assignement tracker, please?

where do you get Samedi's assignement tracker? Jethap 09:29, 3 December 2008

  • I would if I could, but I don't have the password. I simply changed the URL to get the image. His file will be at C010. The password will probably be released next week. Sorry! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:56, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • when you changed the URL, you only get the image, or you can read his profile too, because if yes, you can write his profile in his page at least. Jethap 09:29, 3 December 2008

A Favour

Without Banning Him Can You Tell Noah Bennet And The Whale To Stop Editing My Page Negatively. We Edit Eachother's Pages But He Is Starting to Be Negative. Gabriel Bishop 13:37, 3 December 2008

  • Have you told him? I don't see any messages on his talk page. I suggest you approach the subject first, otherwise he might not be aware that there is an issue. Then, if the issue persists, you can find an administrator to intervene...but an admin should really be more of a last resort. I also suggest that both of you stop editing each other's pages if there is a problem. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:12, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • Thanks ryan.I dont about you in the states but in the uk there is a show called doctor who.I mader a page about him on here becuase he is in my series but used the page from wikipedia.could you help me sort it out? Gabriel Bishop 15:38, 3 December 2008 (EST)Gabriel Bishop
      • I've seen exactly one episode of Doctor Who. I loved it. I don't know much more about it. What kind of help are you looking for? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:52, 3 December 2008 (EST)
        • Actually, looking at that page, you've got to take out all those red links. None of them are pages we need at Heroes Wiki. You've also linked to templates that we simply don't have here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:56, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • That's what you get for bringing your obsolete subpages and BS to this wiki. "We Edit Eachother's Pages But He Is Starting to Be Negative", listen to you, you sound like 'ef buddies.--Citizen 15:54, 3 December 2008 (EST)

                  • Ha,Thanks anyway. gonna watch the eclipse part 2 tonight :).Oh What About James Kyson Lee, i Saw You Talked To Him.
                    • Yes, I did. He was very personable. I don't give out people's contact information, though. I find it in poor taste to give out personal information about people just because they are famous. Sorry! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:25, 3 December 2008 (EST)

cast changes

hey, i know i don't really need your "permission", but do you think i should make this article an article in the mainspace? i think the design of it looks decent and it adds good information to the wiki. i won't take offense if you disagree though. thanks. - Tristan0709 23:24, 3 December 2008 (EST)

  • I think it's one of those great articles that has terrific and useful information, but doesn't really have a place on the wiki's main namespace. The information belongs in notes and such, but not on its own page. There's a bunch of those kind of pages, like User:Chrisyu357/comic, User:Level/Credits, User:Ryangibsonstewart/Meta, or User:SacValleyDweller/Release and Arc Order. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:53, 3 December 2008 (EST)
    • Yeah, i think you might be right. thanks anyway! - Tristan0709 00:03, 4 December 2008 (EST)
      • But please keep updating the page--I check it a lot when you edit it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:04, 4 December 2008 (EST)
        • Wow, thanks. I like the format of number three a lot better than one or two. Also, do you think I should leave Maya as a regular for the whole season so far? - Tristan0709 01:24, 4 December 2008 (EST)
          • Yeah. Contractually, she's still a principal cast member. (You can tell because she's credited first, with all the other regulars.) Usually an actor's contract is good for the whole season, whether they appear or not. I don't know if Heroes chose to do a volume-long contract or not...I guess we'll have to wait until January to find that out. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:35, 4 December 2008 (EST)
            • Yeah, it's safe to exclude say, Simone after Parasite, but it's harder with Maya. - Tristan0709 01:41, 4 December 2008 (EST)

Should we archive the iStorys in a Blog also?

I realize we'd pretty much be copy-pasting them, but if NBC decides in the future to remove them, then we'd have a backup archive. We would also have a searchable text location in one place, and not have to browse manually through the NBC pages. Thoughts? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 12:38 (EST)

  • I don't see the harm in an archive. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:50, 4 December 2008 (EST)
    • OK, I'll put them up. May need you to come back after me, and do your dropdown box magic later. I'll add the link to the other blogs when I've got it up. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 13:39 (EST)
      • Whew...this first one was a mess to do. I'm not convinced I like it at all, because of how the iStory series have alternate choices of how the story is presented. Initially, I just tried to write it with some goto-type comments, telling the reader which paragraphs to skip and where to pick back up with; but that looked really bad. Then I tried color-coding the text to make it easier to follow each alternative path. I don't think I like this approach much better. Take a look, and see if you have any better ideas of how to make it flow in a way that it is easy to follow and understand. http://heroes-transcripts-istory.blogspot.com. If we can't come up with a good presentation, maybe transcribing the iStory series may not be worth the trouble. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 15:17 (EST)
        • I would think jumps to other blog entries might not be a bad idea...but maybe you're right, maybe it's not worth it. Besides, the summaries that MiamiVolts has been writing at Operation Bad Blood and Operation Splinter are terrific. Maybe that's all we need? I'll take a deeper look when I get home tonight. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:19, 4 December 2008 (EST)
          • Sounds good, I want to get around to starting the S3 epis, but not sure when...can't do them at work, they take too long. I think next, I'm gonna start doing all of the Sylar-related GNs, and some of the GNs that are more pertinant to the main, active episode storylines. I've done the last 11 current ones, and think that's a pretty fair start for getting this season going. Will wait on the iStory series until you have time to look into it, and see what you think tonight. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/4/2008 15:34 (EST)
            • Actually, I don't think it's worth it at all to do the iStory transcripts at this time. Maybe if we had a bigger team, more time, and more knowledge in how to make it "work"...but at this point, I just don't think it's worth it. Let's focus on the graphic novels. By the way, I have the original script for a few of them, like Road Kill. I'm not allowed to publish the original script, but I'll at least take the dialogue from them and post them. Gimme a few... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:27, 4 December 2008 (EST)
              • Oh, never mind, it looks like you just did the Road Kill transcript. Don't worry about the scripts for Trust Issues, Part 1, Trust Issues, Part 2, Past Experience, War Buddies, Part 4, or War Buddies, Part 5. I have those original scripts, too, so you can save your time there... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:30, 4 December 2008 (EST)
                • If you wanna send those that you have to my gmail account, I'll format them and add them in today; otherwise I think I'll add String Theory and Walls, Part 1 and Walls, Part 2 today. Since I am transcribing them by hand, and have done several of the most recent ones, I'm just gonna start picking the series I like best and transcribe them. 114 is still a long way to go, but if I can do 2 or 3 a day, they'll eventually get done. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/5/2008 11:26 (EST)
                  • I swore under penalty of death that I wouldn't let the original transcripts out, so I'll just take the text and format it myself. Maybe this weekend. By the way, you're doing a terrific job with the transcripts. They've very nice to have, and I've already started using the to search for things. It sure makes searching the Heroesverse a lot more comprehensive. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:10, 5 December 2008 (EST)
                    • There will come a day, when everything is finished and transcribed. The day following that day, a new blog will appear that will be all-inclusive of every transcription. That will allow the world to do full one-stop searching in one place. That will be real handy. I should get Walls 1 & 2 finished today. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/5/2008 15:31 (EST)

hi, how do i check my inbox and how i can contribute to fan creation using my user name..thanx ! Jayshizzo326 08:09, 6 December 2008

  • There is no inbox on a wiki--if somebody sends you a message, it will be at on your talk page, which you can find by clicking this link. What's great is that if anybody does send you a message, you'll get a big orange-yellow bar at the top of your screen alerting you to the message. Just click the link on that bar and it'll take you to the message on your page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:41, 6 December 2008 (EST)

Question about capitalization

What's the protocol for capitalizing the futures (eg - Explosion Future vs. Explosion future vs explosion future)? From looking at some of the edits, it seems that they are not capitalized except when headers or at the beginning of sentences, but they are proper nouns so should be capitalized based on that. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but I'd like to start cleaning them up when I run across them (I've been going with the lowercase version, but am not sure this is correct, looking at a few of the pages), to keep it consistent throughout the site. Thanks.  :) --Stevehim 11:57, 7 December 2008 (EST)

  • They're not proper nouns, they're descriptions of the future that we've assigned for the purposes of naming articles and organizing which future is which. We should avoid using the fan-created names in articles whenever possible: "In a possible future, Peter has a scar" is much better than "In the explosion future, Peter has a scar." As well, if we ever do have to use the name we've assigned (like on disambig pages or when we have to distinguish between two futures), we should use scare quotes. Matt is a douchebag in the "explosion future", but not in the "exposed future". Hope that helps...and thanks for being willing to help clean that up! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:00, 7 December 2008 (EST)
    • Thanks. Actually, I had another quick question. When listing people as deceased, are we supposed to italicize the word as in this infobox, or not, as in this one? And do we use the same rule when it's not in an infobox, as it is here? Thanks again. --Stevehim 03:21, 9 December 2008 (EST)
      • In general, I don't think we've been italicizing the word "deceased" in infoboxes. Every character page I'm looking at lists the word "deceased" without italics (like next to Simone's name on Charles Deveaux's page, or next to Elle's parents' names on Elle Bishop). For ease, let's not italicize the word "deceased" anywhere. Good catch! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:55, 9 December 2008 (EST)

bit of help

hey, just wanted to ask you a question. if i wanted to make all of the rows on this collapsible, how would i do it? only because the help page confuses me. thanks. - Tristan0709 18:19, 7 December 2008 (EST)

  • Okay, here goes. It's actually not too difficult to do, you just have to sift through some technical mumbo jumbo to "get" it. Let me see if I can explain...

Basically, you have to put each row (or really, it's not the whole row, but two columns from each row) into a collapsible table. Keep in mind that the tables below won't look exactly right because I'm not adding in all the information to make the full navbar--just the information you need to change. Right now you have this:

style="font-size:11px; text-align: center; background-color:#CCD5F4"|Volume One
colspan="2" style="font-size:11px; text-align: left; background-color:#ebebff"|
Genesis •
<a bunch of links> •
How to Stop an Exploding Man

...which gives you this:

Volume One

Genesis • <a bunch of links> • How to Stop an Exploding Man

You need to add a collapsible table around the links you want collapsed. You also need to add a heading (which is denoted by an exclamation point, and it's mandatory for collapsed tables) and all the formatting (the blue background etc.) to the collapsed table. I also add a width=100% so that the collapsible part will reach all the way across the navbar when it's collapsed. It doesn't do much difference here, but play around with it and see how it changes things. Anyway, you're going to change the above to this:

style="font-size:11px; text-align: center; background-color:#CCD5F4"|Volume One

click "show" to reveal links

Genesis •
<a bunch of links> •
How to Stop an Exploding Man

...which will give you this:

Volume One

Notice the table within a table. I made the above change to one section of your navbar so you can check out exactly what I changed. Click this link to see the changes. The changes I made are in red. I'll let you make the other changes so it's a good learning opportunity for you. If you have other questions, let me know. My son is threatening to go to the hospital again tonight, but if he doesn't, I should be around for awhile tonight... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:17, 7 December 2008 (EST)

  • Thanks, I'll try doing that now. - Tristan0709 20:19, 7 December 2008 (EST)

        • Thanks! Yes, I did, only to stuff it up again, and then fix it again. - Tristan0709 20:36, 7 December 2008 (EST)
          • That's how we learn. "And why do we fall, Bruce?" -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:38, 7 December 2008 (EST)
            • Haha yeah. And, what do you know, I just stuffed it again. - Tristan0709 20:41, 7 December 2008 (EST)
              • Fixed once more. Thanks again for your help. - Tristan0709 20:42, 7 December 2008 (EST)
                • Here we go, another conundrum for you. when i put all the column as hidden, the left column becomes as large as half the table. huh? - Tristan0709 20:55, 7 December 2008 (EST)
                  • Try specifying the width of one of the columns. I chose 20% and it looks pretty good. See here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:02, 7 December 2008 (EST)
                    • Thankyou so much. Is there anything you don't know? - Tristan0709 21:04, 7 December 2008 (EST)

Mess

I added a theory to Nathan's theory page, but I accidently messed it up and I don't know what I've done wrong. Can you help me with this? :)

  • You just accidentally removed the closing tag for the table ( |} ). I put it back and the table's fixed now. (Admin 11:49, 8 December 2008 (EST))

Another mess

Ryan, Can you take a look at this userpage, and see why it is doing the weird trascripting link in the See Also section at the bottom? User:CmdrCash/New_Main_Page. The page is set to not allow editing, so I can't figure out why it is doing what it is doing, but somehow it seems to be involing the Seealsotranscripts template against the userpage; which it shouldn't be doing. It is also causing this userpage to appear in the list of episodes here: User:HiroDynoSlayer/List of Transcripts, where it doesn't belong. Also, I'd like to move that Transcripts page off of my userspace into the mainspace if you think that would be OK. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/8/2008 13:42 (EST)

  • The page transcludes Episode:Nothing to Hide, so anything on that episode page is shown on the user page. That means the transcript template is used too. Since the transcript template uses PAGENAME, it uses the user page's pagename. I simply noincluded the template on the episode page, and now it should be fine. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:50, 8 December 2008 (EST)
  • I don't think it's a good idea to move the list of transcripts page out of the user namespace. See User talk:HiroDynoSlayer/List of Transcripts. If you want it in my namespace, that's fine, but since it's not about Heroes, I don't think it belongs in the main namespace. :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:04, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Eclipse vs Petrelli

We already know what he's here for after seeing his "funny" invisibility stunt. Why not just have him banned right now to get it over with?--Citizen 13:52, 8 December 2008 (EST)

  • We've had people in the past come here and do some silly things before getting their act together and even becoming very productive members of the community. We try to give people the benefit of the doubt except in cases of extreme vandalism. (Admin 13:54, 8 December 2008 (EST))
    • Some people come to this site and think it's a RPG or a site where silliness is allowed--especially when their friends are making silly user pages that resemble RPG pages. If their silliness creeps into the main site, then they need to be warned. If it continues, then action can be taken. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Citizen! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)
      • I'm sorry, then, because I think I'm going to refrain from contributing to the wiki. Haven't you noticed that in the last few weeks, Heroes Wiki has been nothing but people joining and vandalizing the pages, creating multiple accounts and making terrible and offensive subpages? Highly a motivator for people who want the wiki to thrive. And it's not "silly", it's plain stupid. This was great and all during the Summer and the whole of 2007, but I just don't want these people to "kill" the wiki like that anymore. I'm out, guys.--Citizen 13:59, 8 December 2008 (EST)
        • Citizen, you're a strong editor, and I sure hope you don't let silly--or even stupid--edits by a few yahoos to determine whether or not you edit the wiki. Believe me, there are a select few I have on my watchlist, and I'm just waiting for one more wrong edit. But it really is important for us to give the benefit of the doubt. I can name at least one person who used to make edits that were a lot worse than that who is now a patroller. It sounds cliche, but sometimes all a person needs is some correcting and instructing. I hope you reconsider and don't let the actions of others determine your choices.... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:04, 8 December 2008 (EST)
        • Can I just add... Didn't Gabriel Bishop (sorry to bring him into this) say that one of my other accounts kept on editing his user page and now he's editing mine! Can someone do something about it? I will change the picture back but can someone ban Gabriel Bishop or something? -- User:Eclipse vs Petrelli 19:26 (UK time), 9 December 2008 (EST)
          • To be honest, EvP, I'm getting a little tired of the issues that are being brought to me in regards to multiple accounts, "stupid" edits, and people editing each other's user pages. You shouldn't have more than one account--there's no need for it. You have no reason to edit another person's user pages--there's no rule against it, but if it's causing problems, I can make a rule for you, and that rule will be to not edit any user pages that are not your own. I suggest you choose one user page and abandon the others. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:55, 9 December 2008 (EST)

Watching

Hi Ryan, can I just ask, how would I know if someone is watching me? Coz I have a feeling somebody is spying me and my edits, and keeps on counteracting with it... --NiveKJ13 18:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)

  • You can see every edit made in the wikia at recent changes. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)
    • That's right. All edits made to the wiki can be seen at special:recentchanges. I watch your edits just as much as I watch anybody else's. It's called patrolling. A person's specific edits can be seen at their contributions page (for instance, Special:Contributions/NiveKJ13). I would actually encourage all editors to watch each other's edits. That way we all make sure all edits are quality and we've got lots of pairs of eyes making sure we're right on track. There is no way to know if one particular person is watching you, though. However, if you feel that somebody is targeting you and making unfair edits, you can let me know. If you would prefer to speak with me privately, my email address is ryangibsonstewart at heroeswiki dot com. However, I should say that a look through some of your edits and the edits of others doesn't show any maliciousness on anybody's part. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:23, 8 December 2008 (EST)
    • Aaahh.ok. LOL I've juz haven't known about the "recent pages" till now. Maybe thats why when I edit, its either being removed, edited etc. LOL, I felt like being watched. XD Tnx btw... NiveKJ13 11:09, 9 December 2008

Here i am for help again! how would i make, say, Curtis Hovespian or Teresa Hue Pham redirect to List of evolved humans? Thanks. - Tristan0709 20:47, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Spaces

Why is that most articles have double spaces after a full stop? I never quite understood that. There's no need to have two spaces. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:51, 9 December 2008 (EST)

  • No, there's no need at all. Luckily, the wiki automatically makes it a single space. You can add all the space you want, and it still formats it the same. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:51, 9 December 2008 (EST)
    • Please, don't do that again, one my pet peeves is to leave everything as tidy as possible, I lost count of how many pages I skimmed through correcting double spaces, even in the edit window. If you check my edits in theory pages, you'll see that most of them are about formatting. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 13:45, 9 December 2008 (EST)
  • Are you referring to two spaces at the end of a sentence? You know, that's how I've always typed and I actually thought it was proper grammar when typing. I think it may have been the old-fashioned way back when there were typewriters, but someone must have taught me to use two spaces when I was younger. I'm not about to change, but now that you mention it I'll research it so at least I don't try to correct other people when they don't use two. :) (Admin 17:44, 9 December 2008 (EST))
    • Yeah, in the wiki I always try to use one space after a sentence since it's rather pointless to use two as the wiki doesn't recognize it. It also takes up database space if every sentence is separated by two spaces, so I try and trim out the double spaces when I can. If we were to follow MLA or AP style, then two spaces would be correct, but since we have our own style the format I have been applying through most of the site has been to use only one. Perhaps using one space is also W3C standard, I don't recall.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:52, 9 December 2008 (EST)
    • See here for a FAQ on MLA format. Looks like it's less well-defined than it used to be. I first started typing up reports for school in 1987 probably. Things were different back then and double-space after a period was the norm. You're going to have to learn to bare with us old-schoolers. :) (Admin 17:54, 9 December 2008 (EST))
      • That's how I learned to type, too, Admin. (Birds of a feather...) But I switched over some time in college when I learned that either way is acceptable. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:40, 9 December 2008 (EST)

Can we please change Lightning already?

Pretty much everyone wants to change the name to Electrical manipulation, but only 3 people want to keep it. I know admin wanted to reach a consensus, but I don't think it's going to be unanimous anytime soon. Shouldn't the majority be considered before the minority? --Piemanmoo 01:53, 9 December 2008 (EST)

  • I agree with you. I don't think we should always go with a majority, but I think a super majority should be enough. However, that's not up to me. I'm an administrator, but we only have one beaurocrat here, and that's Admin. I defer to him in developing policies like that. If he would like my input, I'm willing to share, but I will not override a policy that's already in place... But I should also point out that I think the bigger issue is not the name of the power, but tweaking our naming conventions to place explicitly given canon names at the top, then explicitly given near canon names, then canon descriptions, then near canon descriptions. I mean, if Zhang Yang ever appeared in an episode and they described him only as the CEO of Yang Industries, we wouldn't change his name to "Yang Industries CEO" just because canon sources outrank near canon sources. More pertinently, if Walter appeared in an episode, but he was only known as "Mr. Smith", we would keep the name of the page as "Walter" or "Mr. Smith". We would use everything we know to make it "Walter Smith". But I digress... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:51, 9 December 2008 (EST)

  • Hi, I'm having problems about the Signature...

-see, I created the page for the signature here... User:NiveKJ13/sig

-then, I've put the code " { {subst:User:NiveKJ13/sig} } " in the nickname part of the preferences page. -It all came out all right --- User:NiveKJ13/Edits

-but then when I look at the edit of my signature, the whole code comes out instead of just { {subst:User:NiveKJ13/sig} }. [2]

Help pls... Thank you...

--NiveKJ13 (talk2me) 11:18, 9 December 2008 (EST)

  • I had the same problem. You need to place on a page called User:NiveKJ13/autosig. use in that nickname space. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 11:24, 9 December 2008 (EST)
    • Right. Then you also need to change your preferences. Under the "user profile" tab of your preferences, find the field called "Nickname". In that field, type . Also, make sure that the "Raw Signatures" box is checked. Check Help:Signatures#Creating a signature template page for more help. Apology

I wanted to apologize for the rash behavior and negativity I displayed a few days ago when I said I was leaving the wiki. I was just feeling frustrated because somebody was vandalizing the wiki that I, and many others, care for and put in hard work to make it the best Heroes site on the internet. I have reconsidered and decided that I won't let those morons get to me, and I'll continue contributing like before and aide you in reverting any unnecessary and ill-intended edits that people like EvP tend to make. That being said, I look forward to contributing again.--Citizen 19:45, 11 December 2008 (EST)

  • Glad to have you back. :) There's no need to worry. Troublemakers either clean their acts up or they get booted from the site. We've had plenty of troublemakers in the past... some have changed their ways, and others are no longer here. :) (Admin 19:51, 11 December 2008 (EST))
  • Thanks, Citizen. I think that's a very mature approach. Believe me, there are times that I throw my hands up and get very angry at...my computer screen. :) I sometimes have to sit back, relax, and remember that the Internet is not such serious business. And then I tell myself that I probably would have done the same stupid vandalism when I was twelve years old (or had the mindset of a twelve-year-old). But I know you're keeping an eye out, and there are some people who are pretty much holding that last straw over my about-to-break back. Welcome back--the wiki just sucked in a breath of strength from you. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:55, 11 December 2008 (EST)
  • I'm glad you guys agree with what I'm saying. Once again, I have to say I've been pretty PO'd the last few weeks because the Recent Changes started changing from smart and productive edits to MULTIPLE EDITS made on a whole bunch of crappy subpages. How do you think people would react to that? I'd like to read your thoughts on that. That being said, kudos for getting an interview with the writers of Destiny. Hope my queries get answered.--Citizen 20:14, 11 December 2008 (EST)
    • What hooked me on this wiki, believe it or not, was the Theory:Red page. Ridiculous, eh? (I think I still have some unsigned, unformatted, unbulleted comments on that talk page.) A lot of people like making the wiki sort of their own personal RPG. Cool, whatever floats your boat. I hate having to sift through those edits (and the theory edits, and the spoiler edits--which I don't like to see, but which I'm certainly not avoiding like the plague). I hate it even more when a person adds tons of red links and inappropriate categories to their user page, then people have to go get the mop bucket and clean it all up. But I guess that's the nature of the work, right? And Admin makes a great point--there are tons of people here who start by doing the user subpage thing, or the theory thing, or whatever. Even some who have had to be warned for what I can only imagine is editing while drunk. But most of those people either fade away, are blocked, or turn themselves around and become fantastic editors. It sucks to wade through that garbage, but we're all on different learning curves, and we're all at different levels. I wouldn't turn somebody away just because they don't make quality edits. Vandalism is one thing, priorities on subpages is another thing. Plus, I never want Heroes Wiki to become an "elitist" site like some other wiki sites, full of dense dicks. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:32, 11 December 2008 (EST)
    • Seeing that Sonic subpage had literally given me a terrible headache. How can people even ASSUME we'll make Heroes-unrelated articles just because they have them in their pages? I can't believe people can be so stupid by thinking that. The ironic thing is, the user didn't even use the link enhanced speed in the infobox.--Citizen 20:44, 11 December 2008 (EST)

Spinach Why

Hi Ryan why do you want to delete my spinach page? and you still have pie. Gabriel Bishop 11:02, 13 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • I don't have anything. There is an article about pie because it was mentioned in five episodes. My reasons for nominating the spinach article for deletion are listed at talk:spinach. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:42, 13 December 2008 (EST)

New Character and Typos

Hi. Two things. First, I found this article that you can add to the HEROES NEWS column of the home page: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/12/john-glover-cas.html - It talks about the newest cast member of Heroes. And I also found an interview with Bryan Fuller: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/12/exclusive-bryan.html . Hopefully, you can use those. Second, I noticed that the title for the next episode is spelled 2 different ways throughout the website. "Duel" and "Dual". I assume it is supposed to be the former term, but whichever one it is, someone should change the incorrect terms (such as on the main page under "NEXT ON HEROES".) Thanks again for maintaining this awesome website. -Dan

  • Thanks, Dan. I'll hold off putting the John Glover article in the news section since it's a pretty big spoiler. As for the other article, I've already put it at Bryan Fuller#External Links. Is there somewhere else you think it should go? As for the spelling, I've seen it written a few different ways. Plus, it was changed from War to Duality to either Duel or Dual (which oddly enough, sound very similar, but are synonyms for the original titles!) I'm not really sure which spelling to go with, so maybe we should hold off until we see it on Monday? I don't know, what do you think? ... Thanks for the heads up and keeping me informed! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:59, 13 December 2008 (EST)
    • I went to check NBC's website and they also have it listed as both "Duel" and "Dual" in different places. I suppose waiting for the actual episode is probably the best way to go. And I wasn't aware that you already had the Fuller article. Thanks! -Dan.

Hiro "bu! bu!"

  • Hi Ryan, can I ask a favor?. I can't find my Heroes memory stick right now and I need the image of Hiro in the episode "Hiros" where he asked Nathan if he can get a ride, and Hiro acted out that he's honking a car. Can you please, if you have a chance, get an image of Hiro doing the "bu!bu!" act...thank you in advance. --NiveKJ13 (talk2me) 17:44, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Moving a page

Hey, Futurepeter. I saw that earlier this week, you cut and pasted the information from Spoiler:Chad Faust into Chad Faust. This is not an ideal way to despoil a page. The best way is to use the "move" tab at the top of the page. That way the history is intact, a redirect is created, and it gets logged in Special:Logs/Move. If it won't let you move the page, for some reason, let an administrator know. Thanks! — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:25, 13 December 2008 (EST)
Hey Ryan, thanx for your message. I didn't realize that i had to use the move tab, will do that from now on. Thanx a lot! -- Futurepeter ( U - T - C ) 19:59, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Notable visitors

With regards to your question on your recent edit, I'm not sure where to look for official policy on listing visitors as deceased. I was under the impression that, on lists like that, we updated people's statuses. I'm not sure why visitors vs employees would matter. We have listed it in the visitros sections here, here, here, and here (though I was probably responsible for a bunch of that over the last few weeks), and is not listed here, here, or on most of the location pages (eg - places in NY) (though I assume that is because nobody noticed it or hadn't gotten around to it yet). Since there doesn't appear to be any official policy on this yet, I guess it is up to you guys (administrators) to decide what is proper. My two cents would be that there seems to be no reason not to include it, as it is more accurate information and doesn't hurt, but if you decide it is not protocol, I will change the pages accordingly. It should be noted that another section (residents) should also be addressed in this regard. --Stevehim 17:25, 14 December 2008 (EST)

  • The difference between the visitors and the employees is that you wouldn't want to look at Primatech Research#Notable Employees and think that Bob still works for PR because he's dead. Whatever is decided, everything needs to be standardized, and I know you're as keen on standardization as I am. My personal opinion is that we shouldn't list visitors as deceased because that requires a tremendous amount of maintenance. I don't have a strong opinion one way or another on the residents or the employees--though it makes sense to me why their status would be listed, I'd rather keep it simple. What do you think? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:31, 14 December 2008 (EST)
    • It's fine by me either way, as you were right about my main goal...standardization. If it's simply a matter of maintenance, I'd take responsibility for updating it just to make the information more accurate, but if you think it better to keep out of the visitors sections, I'll switch those four pages (and any others I come across) back. Assuming I interpreted your position correctly, I'll also start updating the 'residents' sections to include their statuses. On a separate note, whenever you get the time (I know you have a lot on your plate), let me know how you want me to send the DMB shows. I'm guessing mail is the best way (as I'm not sure exactly how to set up a server for download...though I could probably find out relatively easily). If this is the case, you can send the information to my email (stevehim at yahoo dot com). --Stevehim 17:41, 14 December 2008 (EST)
      • I think the deceased status is fine for residents and employees--that way it shows that they are no longer employed or residing at the location. But it strikes me as really odd to do it for visitors--it almost seems like we're saying they were visiting when they were deceased. It's just odd, and probably too big of a hassle to update...Let's just take that out. Re DMB: I'll email you. Thanks so much! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:18, 14 December 2008 (EST)

abilities

hey ,don't know how to do it myself, but could you remove User:Syph3r/Push from the abilities template? thanks. - Tristan0709 17:26, 14 December 2008 (EST)

  • It already is. The wiki just needs to refresh or purged. Try hitting CTRL + F5. If that doesn't work, try purging: first edit the page. Then change the word "edit" in the url to "purge" and hit "enter" or "go" or whatever it is that you hit on your browser to get a url. If that doesn't work, let me know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:33, 14 December 2008 (EST)
    • Hmm, that's weird, it didn't. I tried the first option, and i have a strange keyboard so F5 means open. Thew second option i did but it is still there. Also, quick un-related question, how do we refer to the graphic novels from a person's POV? IE, would The Caged Bird, Part 1 be Daphne-centric? or is there another word used?- Tristan0709 17:42, 14 December 2008 (EST)
    • I also tried both options and neither worked. --Stevehim 17:44, 14 December 2008 (EST)
      • I just removed it; please confirm it on your end? You have to purge the page that was added to the category, not the template itself.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:18, 14 December 2008 (EST)
        • Gone on my end. --Stevehim 18:33, 14 December 2008 (EST)
          • Yep, gone here too. - Tristan0709 18:39, 14 December 2008 (EST)
      • I would say that The Caged Bird, Part 1 is Daphne-centric, but I would never refer to a graphic novel in the Character History section of an article. Where are you writing something like that? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:42, 14 December 2008 (EST)
        • Oh, I was just experimenting around with templayes for each character (this is one for Noah. I was putting in GN appearances, and then thought i would split it up to narrated and normal appearances, but wasn't sure what the official wording was. - Tristan0709 20:03, 14 December 2008 (EST)
          • Well, you're making a fan template, so you don't need any official word on anything--just have fun making it! :) But yes, I think where you have "Centric Graphic Novels", it looks very good. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:08, 14 December 2008 (EST)
            • Thanks, I'll probably make them for all main characters eventually but I don't really know why. Just something to do, I guess - Tristan0709 20:15, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Caching

Please check out User:MiamiVolts/Help:Caching and move it to the helpspace if you think it's ready, deleting the redirect thereafter. I'm guessing it's more of a general topic, but I'm not exactly sure how we are defining what's general and what's special...--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:50, 14 December 2008 (EST)

  • Thanks, Miami. I'll take a look when I get home tonight. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:06, 15 December 2008 (EST)
  • I'll make a few minor edits and then take care of the move and delete. I don't know if there's a strict definition for what's "general help" and what's a "special topic". I'd say that anything that I'd like a brand new reader to definitely read before editing would be "general help" and everything else would be a "special topic". I think caching is a special topic. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:50, 15 December 2008 (EST)
    • That makes sense, and the added section/changes look good. Thanks.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:41, 15 December 2008 (EST)

The Recruit, Part 1 Transcript (inaudibles)

Ryan, there were two inaudible phrases from David in the new webisode, The Recruit, Part 1, that I couldn't make out when I transcribed it. Both were just after the explosion. I listed them in the transcript as (inaudible). Can you check when you have time, and see if you can make out what he is saying? I just can't get it..really quick and mumbled. (transcript link) --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/16/2008 09:14 (EST)

  • Wow, geez, I have no idea. I'll ask my wife when I get home tonight--she's always much better at figuring out inaudible speech than I am. (Maybe it's because she stays home with toddlers all day long!) Good job on the transcript otherwise... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:45, 16 December 2008 (EST)

SAVEN CHALEY

I finally got my copy of Saving Charlie, so I'll be updating that page with a chapter-by-chapter synopsis soon, just so you know.--Citizen 16:26, 16 December 2008 (EST)

  • Very cool! I haven't ever shelled out the money for it, so I can't wait to get some more details. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:28, 16 December 2008 (EST)
    • Citizen, I have half the book summarized already. If you want to work with me on finishing the summary on a blog like the one set up for the transcripts, let me know.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:29, 16 December 2008 (EST)
      • You guys might want to just do it on the actual article--that way others who have read it can contribute, too. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:31, 16 December 2008 (EST)
  • I feel more comfortable putting the info on a blog for the same reasons that the transcripts was put there. The book is a published document that is being sold for money, and my summary is rather detailed (I've been working on it for a few months). I'd rather take down a blog than to have the wiki shut down.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:34, 16 December 2008 (EST)
    • Why would it get shut down?--Citizen 16:42, 16 December 2008 (EST)
      • I think he's worried about copyright infringement. --Ted C 16:52, 16 December 2008 (EST)
        • Any summary that is appropriate to go on the wiki does not infringe on copyright laws. A word-for-word transcription may, but that would not be appropriate for the wiki. A summary that is as detailed as any of the iStory summaries or any of the episode summaries is fine. Anything more detailed than that doesn't belong on the wiki. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:04, 16 December 2008 (EST)
          • Well, no disrespect intended, though since I'm writing it, you can read it when I'm finished and think what you'd like, but I don't feel comfortable putting my version here. If Citizen wants to write a version for the wiki, I'll understand, but I will not be giving permission for my Saving Charlie summary to be added here. I will add information to each of the character articles using the summary, afterwards, though, if that will be welcomed.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:24, 16 December 2008 (EST)
            • Guess I'll have to write my own summary, then. Also, I too want to create/update characters pages with things from the book.--Citizen 19:04, 16 December 2008 (EST)
              • Miami, no disrespect felt. :) If you don't feel your summary is appropriate for the wiki, that's fine. I was just trying to suggest an easier way for group collaboration. Whatever works for you....Citizen, great, thanks. Remember that Saving Charlie is not a canon source, so information from it about Hiro or James Walker or anybody like that should be confined to the notes. I'm not sure how to go about creating pages for the likes of Mr. Roiz or Herbie. Since we don't have images of them, maybe the best thing to do is subpages, like "Saving Charlie/Mr. Roiz" or "Saving Charlie/Herbie". Perhaps that's something that should be discussed at Talk:Saving Charlie, though. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:26, 16 December 2008 (EST)
                • Has it been officially said that it isn't canon? Like, if it were confirmed in a Behind the Eclipse, what would happen?--Citizen 21:53, 16 December 2008 (EST)
                • I think we should make a separate category for Hardback Novel characters if we want to add them, though you're right that this should be discussed on Talk:Saving Charlie. I'll add my comments there.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:10, 16 December 2008 (EST)

season summaries

On all of the charcter articles, the summaries are split into seasons, so there are articles like Nathan Petrelli/Season One etc. I think that Volumes Three and Four should be archived like this separately, and Seasons One and Two changed to Volume One and Volume Two. Each volume tells a distinctly different storyline for the character and the people that make Heroes have decided that their storylines are separated as such. Why are we sorting archived summaries under seasons and not volumes? I'd be happy to transefer some of it if no-one else would.- Tristan0709 talk 18:18, 16 December 2008 (EST)

  • I was thinking something similar. It would mean a ton of work--it doesn't just affect the character summaries, it affects the way templates are organized, categories, portals, almost everything on the wiki. It also means that some volumes would be super long (Volume One) and some much shorter (Volumes Two and Three). Who's to say that they can't do a three-episode volume. I'm not against the idea, I just have some serious reservations against it. I had the same idea somewhere back during Season Two, and the reasons I haven't gone forth with it is because 1) it's a lot of work, 2) we don't really have consensus on the change, and 3) sometimes it's just easier to leave good enough alone. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:31, 16 December 2008 (EST)
    • So you think maybe I/we could start with the character summaries and see how we go? - Tristan0709 talk 17:20, 17 December 2008 (EST)
      • Overall, I don't think it's a good idea...and I'm not saying that to slight you--I had the same idea. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:24, 17 December 2008 (EST)
        • No, that's fine - no offence taken. I just thought that it would be better for use to sort the show by the same methods that the people that make it do (no sarcasm intended). - Tristan0709 talk 17:27, 17 December 2008 (EST)

Levels on images...

Why fix them? On things like title cards and images used in the episode infobox, it seems to me like one would expect to see it as it appeared in the episode, and not adjusted. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:09, 16 December 2008 (EST)

  • Filters and colors are added to the show all the time to add effects, style, etc. In the first season they really distinguished locations by colors--Odessa was Orange, New York was blue, LA was bright. It looks great as an entire episode, but when you take one image out of context, it doesn't look that great. Plus, not fixing the levels makes the images just look really shoddy, I think. Compare this to this. For me, it's less about recreating the exact image (otherwise we would leave watermarks on image) and more about just making the wiki look good. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:26, 16 December 2008 (EST)
    • Call me crazy, but I like the former version of that screen cap. If it were me, I'd be all about documenting the show as shown, complete with the show's coloring schemes (sans watermarks of course). --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:40, 16 December 2008 (EST)
      • Okay, you're crazy. :) Fixing levels simply enhances the image. This versus this. Or this versus this. Or this where you can't see Arthur, to this where you can. And I think Elle looks better here than here. If you don't agree, you're certainly entitled to your opinion....(and no, I don't really think you're crazy...at least not too crazy!) :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:50, 16 December 2008 (EST)
        • Good points! Stylistically, however, I think leaving it un-leveled, exactly as it was aired, is less confusing to the casual reader, at least when it comes to Ep lead images and Title Cards. But, this is small potatoes compared to things like naming abilities! :) --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:59, 16 December 2008 (EST)
          • Oh yes, people certainly get into digital fistfights over ability names. It's ridonkulous! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:01, 17 December 2008 (EST)

Parris Island?

Did David Sullivan say he was from Parris Island in the webisode? I didn't notice him saying that, but I spotted that in David (disambig).--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:00, 17 December 2008 (EST)

  • Tracy went to Parris Island to recruit the marines under Arthur's orders in The Eclipse, Part 1, so it's pretty much confirmed that all the marines came from there. --Ciwey 07:09, 17 December 2008 (EST)
    • Ah, thanks, but Ryan volunteered and wasn't recruited... is there any other indication he was at Parris Island and didn't just travel straight to Pinehearst HQ?--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:08, 18 December 2008 (EST)
      • I understood it to mean that he volunteered either to go to Parris Island, or volunteered to go with Tracy from Parris Island to Pinehearst. Tracy was sent to Parris Island to get all her soldiers, and I think that includes Ryan. I don't think he's different than any of the other Marines that were there. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:55, 18 December 2008 (EST)

Unkown Escapees

  • Hi, is it okay if I make pages for this 3 unknown escapees?

--NiveKJ13 (talk2me) 14:08, 17 December 2008 (EST)

    • Just my input, sorry to intrude here, but I'd say since we don't know their names or anything about them, just keep them on the Level 5 escapees page, otherwise each one would have one paragraph at best.--Riddler 14:10, 17 December 2008 (EST)
      • I wouldn't even put them on the Level 5 escapees page. They were people Noah had files on. Who knows if they ever were in Level 5 (one folder said Level 5, but not all of them), and who knows if they escaped with everybody else? Plus, what do we know about them other than that Noah had a file on them? Not much. Not even whether or not they have powers. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:05, 17 December 2008 (EST)
        • I also apologize for intruding, but might we make this into a BTE question? I'm not sure of who or how to contact the person that interviews the writers. But it would be a great question to ask as to who they are, have we seen them already (i.e. RedEye and Anna), and if not, will we ever see them?--OutbackZack 08:13, 18 December 2008 (EST)
          • No apologies needed--even though this is my talk page, it's a public forum that anybody can join. I think the Level 5 escapees question has been asked before in various forms, but it doesn't hurt to ask again...especially if it's asked in a very direct way. I'm not sure if there will be another BTE next week, but this week's BTE says there will be one next week. Email heroes@comicbookresources.com by Thursday evening. I suggest making questions short, simple, and open-ended without feeding them any answers. Something like "Noah's files contained images of <fill in the names> and three other people. Who were these people?" It might even help to attach pictures to the email. Another great question would be, "Flint's assignment tracker file says that there were twelve escapees from Level 5. Who were these twelve?" -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:56, 18 December 2008 (EST)

I'm sorry for uploading that image. I wasn't aware that there was an Adrenaline image or an Adrenaline page. I only found out after I'd uploaded the image. Heroeswiki didn't inform me that there was another image with that name. --Bentonyang 23:04, 17 December 2008 (EST)

  • Understandable. When you upload an image, make sure you don't have the "Ignore any warnings" box checked. If it's not checked, Heroes Wiki will let you know that there is another image with that name. It will even show you a picture of the existing image. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:06, 17 December 2008 (EST)

Believe Me Peter Is Still A Mimic

Hi i hate to tell you this but most of the contributours are WRONG ! . Mohinder states and i qoute your ability depends on the adrenalin in your body. So if peter had that power then obviously it wont have changed because its based on the person.do you get me.plz say u understand Gabriel Bishop 15:36, 18 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • Mohinder also royally screwed up his formula that was based on adrenaline. I totally understand what you're saying, and I very much agree with you that Peter has his empathic mimicry restored. But that hasn't been confirmed yet. Once it's confirmed, we can change it. Until then, we put what we see. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:55, 18 December 2008 (EST)

THE TIME HAS COME..

i think the folks deserve a chance...on the fan creation part I realized people had unique creativity in terms of article writing on categories like heroeswikiheroes, fan powers and villains.I think some of these articles should be taken a good look at and appear on the next volume of heroes.i think it's a blessing heroes wiki is surviving ,and so the heroes staff should make good use of it. Jayshizzo326 13:01, 19 December 2008

  • You saying us fans should be on the show or our powers should be on the show? If the former, I'll gladly act. ;] Haha.--Riddler 13:21, 19 December 2008 (EST)
  • Jayshizzo326, I don't really know what you're talking about. Are you saying that powers and ideas from different fan creations should appear in episodes? I'm not employed by NBC, and I have absolutely no say over what is included or not included in the episodes, or in any content for that matter. But I do think that NBC is making excellent use of Heroes Wiki--they have linked to us from just about every single page on their site, they advertise for us in Heroes Evolutions walkthroughs, and in Heroes Interactives. We also receive revenue from NBC for letting them be our exclusive advertisers. Additionally, the writers use the wiki quite frequently (I could give tons of examples, but there's probably not room to list them all). I think they're making pretty good use of Heroes Wiki. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:24, 19 December 2008 (EST)

Invisiblity Sylar ?

Hey ryan did you notice in dual about sylar when he appeared behind angela there was the invisibility noise.Well i was wondering could this be the guy who got flint ???.tell me if you heard it too :) Gabriel Bishop 17:01, 19 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • No. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:05, 19 December 2008 (EST)
    • well do you think we could add it on his page ?.Becuase if you watch it again youll hear it . Gabriel Bishop 17:07, 19 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
      • I watched it and I didn't hear an "invisibility noise". I don't know how Sylar would have obtained the ability to become invisible. I don't know what you mean by "the guy who got Flint". -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:20, 19 December 2008 (EST)
  • I did hear it. It was actually when he appeared by Meredith after Sylar escaped from Eric Doyle. In one of the scenes originally from season two Sylar obtains what I believe was referred to as dynamic camouflage. Now while we can't accept deleted scenes as canon, based on some responses from the writers in CBR interviews there's a decent probability he has it. Unfortunately since we didn't exactly see anything concrete it's possible they just reused the sound effect, but they don't have a habit of doing that. Until we actually see Sylar disappear or reappear I think we can't say for sure. (Admin 17:28, 19 December 2008 (EST))
    • Ah, that makes sense. I just assumed the noise was a cool sound effect, not an indication of a power being used. Thanks for clearing that up, Admin. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:31, 19 December 2008 (EST)

TEN again...

Director Parkman

I wasn't sure about that, but I figured it might qualify as non-speculative since he was called 'Director' and was Director of HS in that timeline. It's similar (imo) to assuming that Nathan/Sylar is President of the United States even though they only call him President. I'll try to find the pages that need rectifying, but I'm not sure how we can do that without creating a separate page for an alternate Future Matt, since on their pages it lists them as working for Future Matt, and he was the Director of HS, as is listed on his page when through said links. I actually stumbled across it in my plans to rename the Moab agents, and I was investigating HiroDinoSlayers suggestion and the pages that would need to be changed. However, if we don't know that he's working for DHS at that point, then we can't call the agents DHS agents (nor can we associate Moab with DHS at all), and so I was thinking about replacing DHS with Moab in his suggestion, yielding their new names as:

Moab electric manipulation agent
Moab enhanced speed agent
Moab prison ambush agent

What do you think (and the entire idea of renaming them...I think it makes sense to do so to differentiate them and it is consistnet with thigs like 'Magnetism terrorist')?

I also had a few other quick questions I was hoping to get your opinion on, whenever you have a second:

  1. When a character dies, we have to change everything except the episode synopses to past tense, right? This would include the evolved human abilities sections on their pages?
    • Yes. I don't think it's important for Notes or Trivia sections to have the proper tense since they're often written from an out-of-world perspective. The tense in Abilities sections can be changed -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:23, 20 December 2008 (EST)
  2. I was thinking of (eventually) linking all of the "(deceased)" markings to the death page or the Deceased characters portal.
  3. I recently changed Hank's status to being fully deceased on all pages I could find it. It was that way on about half the pages and 'presumably' or 'probably' dead on the other half, so I chose to go with dead, since he most likely is (similar to Echo), and since nobody objected to the talkpage post about it. Was that ok?
    • I saw the change and by patrolling it but not reverting it, I showed my consent. Yeah, I think it's safe to say that Hank is dead. If anybody has an objection, they can revert or discuss it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:23, 20 December 2008 (EST)

Thanks. --14:41, 20 December 2008 (EST)

  • The thing to remember about Walls is that it takes place in 2007, not in 2011. Matt becomes the DHS director sometime before 2011, but we don't know if he was the director in 2007. I see you have some other questions, but I don't have time to answer them right now. I'm going to work on Edward's ability, then I gotta run. I'll respond more in depth later. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:45, 20 December 2008 (EST)
    • No problem, whenever you get a chance. I did edit my point about Matt above as you were responding, so I'll restate it here briefly. If we're assuming that he was the director of something else, then we should really remove all links from those agents to Future Matt, or create a separate page for Future Matt of 2007, since it lists him as Director of HS in the opening sentence on his page. Either that or change the existing page to reflect him in both 2007 and 2011, since it can lead to confusion. --Stevehim 14:50, 20 December 2008 (EST)
      • That's a very good point. I should also say that we're not assuming Matt was the director of something else. We don't know what he was the director of, so we should be trying not to assume anything. I think the one page about Matt Parkman (explosion future) is fine since the 2007 Matt becomes the 2011 Matt in that timeline. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:52, 20 December 2008 (EST)
        • I don't think we should call the agents "Moab" anything because we don't know where they lived, and I don't think they worked for the Moab Federal Penitentiary. I don't mind taking the parenthetical note off and making agent (super speed) into "super speed agent". Either way, really. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:23, 20 December 2008 (EST)

Jessica's Power

I think Jessica doesn't have enhanced strength power.She uses Niki's ability.Just like Peter.In Jesse's body Peter can use Jesse's power. - Nbcheroes 20.12.2008

  • Jessica is the name of Niki's alternate personality. In other words, Jessica is Niki. What's true about Niki is true about Jessica. If Niki has enhanced strength, so does Jessica--which she has demonstrated numerous times. On the other hand, Peter is not Jesse. Peter was stuck in Jesse's body. He was able to access Jesse's ability, but he does not possess Jesse's ability, as far as we have seen. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:16, 20 December 2008 (EST)
    • People think Peter/Jesse = Niki/Jessica? That's a new one.--Citizen 18:55, 20 December 2008 (EST)

south park

  • Hello , i wanna to add a south park image , but i dont know how , do you know how i can do it? User:cj31094
    • Start with the South Park character creator. If you need help after that, let me know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:19, 20 December 2008 (EST)
      • I already do the image , i only need to know hoh do i posted in the page Cj31094 20:45, 20 December 2008
        • Upload it. Add a description and links and where you got the image (you can say that you made it on South Park character creator). Add a category ( should do fine). Then edit South Park Heroes and add the image to the gallery in alphabetical order, following the format of the other images on the page. If you still need help after uploading, let me know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:02, 20 December 2008 (EST)

            • When you are on the upload screen, hit "Browse..." to find where you saved your image. Then in the larger text box, write a description with links, a source for the image, and a category. Something like this will do:
South Park Claire

Merry Christmas Guys

Hi ryan just would like to say thank you for helping me on this wiki since i have joined. You and other people(Nivekj13,citizen,admin,thrashmeister and others) have helped me fix links on my pages and given ideas so all those people who have helped me and this wiki MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR Gabriel Bishop 14:34, 21 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • Thank you. Merry Christmas to you, too. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:42, 21 December 2008 (EST)
    • Thank you, Gabriel Bishop. I'm sorry if I've been too hard on you since you joined the wiki. I was just blind to the fact that you're new and young. Merry Christmas to you, too.--Citizen 12:54, 22 December 2008 (EST)

A Clear and Present Danger Spoiler Edits

Was it really necessary to eliminate the supposition regarding the future direction of the show from the "fan theories" section? I won't be adding it back (because I respect the fact that it has been taken down), but I am still kinda bummed about it getting removed. ShadowSylar 20:12, 21 December 2008

  • Yes. The "theories" that were there were pure silliness, and some quite crude. They became a discussion rather than a list of theories. And Heroes has not plans to move to Cinemax. Nor is that a theory about A Clear and Present Danger. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:16, 21 December 2008 (EST)

Are you on the list ?

Hi ryan should we put a disambigution on the list so they could go on chandra's list or the company list (elles phone) ? Gabriel Bishop 08:19, 22 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • Elle's phone is not a Company list. Elle's phone lists some of her contacts (don't know why they weren't in alphabetical order). Some of those people are confirmed to be evolved humans. Others may or may not be. More than likely they all are, since Elle has said she doesn't get out much and the Company is her "whole life". But since those people aren't confirmed, and we're not sure where Elle's contacts all came from, we shouldn't consider that a Company list. However, I do think a link to Portal:Lists would be good at the bottom of the list. I'll add it now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:56, 22 December 2008 (EST)

Brain penetration

the Brain penetration link appears in the Powers template... i tried to get it off(as it isn't an ability) but i guess i don't have the right touch, can you work your mojo?--Anthony Gooch 17:22, 22 December 2008 (EST)

  • It should be off now. A page will show up in the main space of the template:power navbar if it is categorized as an ability but not as a list, and if it's not on AbilitiesPortalNav. However, if it's on AbilitiesPortalNav, it will show up in the See Also section of the power navbar, right where it should be. So all that had to be done was add it to AbilitiesPortalNav, and we're golden. Now, you might need to clear the cache, but trust that it's fixed. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:52, 22 December 2008 (EST)
    • Great, now seeing as how i have your attention, i need one more thing added to my "Ryan just may help me yet again with a favor i need" list (its a working title, anyways)...is there a screenshot out there aimlessly wondering the wiki that includes Hiro, Ando, Matt, and Daphne?--Anthony Gooch 02:02, 23 December 2008 (EST)

This is what the pic is going to use for...DAHM, tell me what you think, what i should do, and should we make it wiki-official and put it on the relationship page once its done?--Anthony Gooch 00:39, 25 December 2008 (EST)

  • I don't touch the relationship pages much, so I'm not the best judge of the page. You'll want to ask others, I think. However, if it does move to the main namespace, the lead image will need to be 450 × 350 instead of 300 × 200. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:50, 25 December 2008 (EST)

Our Father Got Shot

Hi Ryan im just gonna upload 2 photos from Our Father. Could u put them on the our father images page. Thanks Gabriel Bishop 10:33, 23 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

Narrator

  • Hi Ryan, I'm just gonna ask if, is it possible to insert the name of the narrator in the infoboxes of episodes. Because I just noticed that Mohinder isn't the only one narrating anymore i.e.
  • Linderman - 0.7%
  • Nathan - Angels and Monsters
  • Sylar - Dual

and by the way, can you check out the ability demonstration I've made, I know its crappy but tell me what you think LOL

--NiveKJ13 (talk2me) 21:07, 23 December 2008 (EST)

  • I think all the information about the alternate narrators is in the trivia section of the episode pages. Since it's not an integral part of the show, the trivia section is probably the best place for that information...Your videos are cool. I especially liked the invisibility. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:30, 23 December 2008 (EST)

Use templates in user namespace

Hi, is there a way to use templates that are stored in a User's namespace, and not the main one? So that means that wouldn't work since it's not in the main namespace... --Radicell 01:55, 24 December 2008 (EST)

  • Sure it would. Just be sure to add the full name of the page, meaning add in the user namespace: . For instance, MiamiVolts has a template at User:MiamiVolts/Abilitiestarrow. Check out how he uses it. In fact, any page can be made into a "template". When you put the name of the page inside the curly brackets, it transcludes the page. By default, if there is no namespace specified, it uses the Template namespace. To transclude a page that is in the main namespace, simply put a colon beforehand. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:59, 24 December 2008 (EST)
    • Wow, thanks! I understand where I was screwing up now. --Radicell 02:12, 24 December 2008 (EST)

Template:ep question

Since you're more of an expert on such things as punctuation than I, is what I've done over at Template:ep with regard to the webisode subtitles the proper way to do it?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:04, 24 December 2008 (EST)

  • In English, there is no exact rule or standard for separating the title from the subtitle. It's generally done mostly with a colon and a space. That's how we do it on the wiki, too. (See a the first random book I found on Amazon.) However, I'm not sure I would italicize one half and not the other, especially since ep is used on epp, which means the italics change, right? I actually don't know if we even need the subtitle. It's cool to have, but I think it might make for an extra long citation. Generally, we've just been citing with the name of the series and the part, not the subtitle. Destiny, Part 2, or War Buddies, Part 4. Does that answer your question? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:14, 24 December 2008 (EST)
    • Good enough. :) I just put it there to have the subtitle automatically put in my release order page, like here on it. Feel free to revert if it you think that shouldnt be there, and I'll put subtitles of things in manually. :) --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:21, 24 December 2008 (EST)
      • I never use template:epp for anything except episodes, so I won't revert it. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:22, 24 December 2008 (EST)
        • Cool. I might slap in the GN subtitles as well, unless others are using the template to cite GN's. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:26, 24 December 2008 (EST)
          • Check out the sandbox. Right now, it lists all the pages that use template:epp, and what letters or numbers are used in the template on that page. It's kind of yucky since it's all squished, but a simple search for "gn" will show that 47 pages use template:epp for GN cites (some multiple times). Searching for "wb" shows that only one page uses the template for webisode cites. Just make sure that if you make any changes to template:epp that you check all the pages that use the template to see if there are any funky behaviors. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:40, 24 December 2008 (EST)

Hi

I have made two pages for cast who hadn't previously had one. I was wondering if you could check them for me. If they are no good you may want to delete them. I just wanted to test my skills at making pages, if they are good I could make some more if you want, as there are a lot of broken links. thanks --laughingdevilboy 13:02, 24 December 2008 (EST)

  • Sorry to intrude, but I think you did a great job, especially if they were your first pages. Keep up the good work ;).--Citizen 13:14, 24 December 2008 (EST)
    • Thank you Citizen it is much appreciated--laughingdevilboy 13:17, 24 December 2008 (EST)
      • The pages look great! I made a couple of changes which you can see here and here. Sometimes it helps to look at the changes that are made to get a better idea of small formatting things that are specific to Heroes Wiki, etc. But overall great job--better than many on your first try! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:06, 24 December 2008 (EST)
        • Thank you, I will make some more, I will remember the changes you made so in the future you wont have to clean my pages up lol. --laughingdevilboy 14:08, 24 December 2008 (EST)
          • Great! If you keep making pages like those, you'll be a strong contributor. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:58, 24 December 2008 (EST)
        • Just an update, as far as I know (by looking on the wanted pages) all the cast and crew have pages :) I hope i helped. I think you should just have a quick look at the wanted pages as some of the pages needed might need links deleting, and a couple already have pages just named something else. Just thought I would let you know. Ohh and I think someone has added a power on the power navigation bar called Aresues/Mirroring. I would delete this myself but I dont know how to edit the bottom navigation bar. Hope you had a great christmas. --laughingdevilboy 17:04, 26 December 2008 (EST)
          • Thanks, ldb. Thanks for all your work on those pages. I'll take a look at them and at the wanted pages when I get home later tonight. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:16, 26 December 2008 (EST)
            • I'll look at them now. Most look really good. I'll make a few minor changes here and there. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:01, 27 December 2008 (EST)
              • Just a heads-up that many if not all of them seem to be lacking categories. I just saw your comment in the recent changes that the Heroes: Countdown to the Premiere show is technically not part of the series, but it seems odd to me to put so many of them in the "Other" category with other series crew members. So I've made a category and portal for the crew of that show and added a list of credits to be added there on its talk page. I'll try and grab some photos tomorrow.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:42, 27 December 2008 (EST)
                • I'm sure that the missing categories were an oversight. I haven't gotten to all the pages yet--I'm slowly making my way through. :) I think a separate category and portal for the premiere show is a good idea. They definitely don't fit in portals like Portal:Directors and Portal:Writers, but they seem odd in Portal:Other, too. Good call, MV! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:16, 28 December 2008 (EST)
                • That would be a great idea, as when I created the pages I didn't know where to add them, I thought you would come up with something :) I was just making my through the red links trying to get rid of them lol. Thanks for checking over them. I seem to have made more work for you, if I make any more pages I will try to keep mistakes to a minimum --laughingdevilboy 11:25, 28 December 2008 (EST)
                  • You've actually made my job much easier. Mistakes are inherent to any page. (I don't think I've ever created a page here that hasn't been edited and edited after I was "done" with it.) I'm making minor formatting changes and adding some credits here and there. What takes me such a long time is that I look for opportunities to correspond with cast and crew members, and I'll search more than just the "usual" websites, like IMDb or Wikipedia. I work under the philosophy that as we reach out to cast and crew members and get their input into the site, it influences more than just the articles about them, or about their characters, but it has many more far-reaching effects than I could anticipate...But your articles are great. Don't stress about a couple of edits that I might make afterwards. If you didn't make the base article, then they'd either be still sitting there as red links, nagging items on my to do list! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:00, 28 December 2008 (EST)
                    • Well since yoy put it that way lol :) If I see a red link I will do my best to create an article and if I can't complete it I will know there are people out there who can fill in the blanks. --laughingdevilboy 13:07, 28 December 2008 (EST)

Deleted scenes

Hello, Ryan. I'm working on the deleted scenes section of the Season One DVD article, as it is a stub. • I don't know what you mean by past characters. Do you mean a separate page for, say, Claude Raines and "Claude Raines (1990)?" If so, I don't think that would work so nicely. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:16, 26 December 2008 (EST)
    • Great idea! Maybe then we could make articles for past locations and items, too!--Citizen 17:29, 26 December 2008 (EST)
  • I don't get it. The future articles are there because futures change and usually don't ever become present. The past would always catch up with the present, so if there was a "Hana (child)", the physical character would eventually become "Hana (present)", but we know for a fact won't become "Hana Gitelman (explosion future)". Additionally, the lines between time are blurred in Heroes: would Flint's character history in Villains be considered as "Flint", or Flint (past)? This only opens up problems and clogs up the wiki, in my opinion. -- Tristan0709 talk 04:08, 28 December 2008 (EST)
    • You're exactly right, Tristan. Past characters automatically become present characters. Since they're one and the same, there's no need to separate articles. Future characters cease to exist when events in the present change, so articles are created about characters who only exist in alternate futures. The other two issues with past characters is that sometimes the exact time of the past is unknown, so it's hard to say which past character came before or after another--that's a moot point with future characters since they exist in alternate futures which may or may not take place at the same time. The other issue is one you touched on, Tristan--where do we draw the line? We've had characters travel back in the past one minute, a few hours, a few days or weeks, a few months, a few years, a few decades, and a few centuries. At what point do we say the character is the same, and at what point do we say the character is different? Further, sometimes we'll learn one tidbit of information about a character's past--like the fact that Elle set her grandmother's house on fire when she was six, or a just seeing a childhood picture of Gabriel Gray. Should we create separate articles just for those tidbits of "past" characters? It's all solved by one answer: keep past histories on the same page as the present character. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:34, 28 December 2008 (EST)

Lobotomization, need input

Something seems fishy as to the way the page was made (split out of mental manipulation) and subsequently renamed to Neurocognitive deficit. Would you mind weighing in on the conversations? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 17:35, 26 December 2008 (EST)

  • Yeah, I see that it's a little awkwardly done. I'm not set to do anything tonight (I just got in after a long car trip) and I'm a bit busy during the day tomorrow...but I'll take a look tomorrow night. I've got a lot of catching up to do. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:30, 26 December 2008 (EST)

Protectall

If I'm not mistaken, a sypop member of this wikia once used a management tool to temporarily protect all pages from editing by those without sypop rights in an attempt to thwart widespread article blanking. In a wiki where I'm a sypop, we've recently came across with a vandal that in order to bypass the usual protection level for pages with a history of vandalism (block unregistered users) created an account, and blanked several articles, only stopped by the timely intervention of a sypop that came online shortly after. I searched all the special pages in the wikia, and it seems that feature isn't available there. If it isn't troublesome, could you email me explaining how to use that feature? Thanks. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 18:23, 26 December 2008 (EST)

  • No trouble at all. :) I don't know your email address, so I'll just respond here. I'm assuming you're familiar with the "protect" button (or link) at the top of each article page. If not, it's just beyond the "discussion", "edit", and "history" buttons. I know you can do cascading protection (check the box that says "Protect pages included in this page (cascading protection)") which will protect any page included in the page being linked. That still doesn't protect every page on the wiki. That I don't know how to do. I don't know if any sysop here has ever protected every page on the wiki. You might want to ask Admin and see if he knows any tricks I don't know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:44, 26 December 2008 (EST)
    • I think you can do global move and/or edit blocks with the Title Blacklist extension. Check out the help. If you have questions, let me know and I'll try to answer. BTW, just a reminder (I think someone mentioned this to you before), this is a wiki but not a wikia. Wikia is another brand of wiki and our competition.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:39, 27 December 2008 (EST)
      • Anyway, I found out how to do it, it's an extension that has to be requested in order for staff members and local sypops to be used. Not sure how it works here since this isn't connected to the main wiki community. It's a lot less complex than I thought, and it works both for a single persistent user and mobs of vandals. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:30, 28 December 2008 (EST)
        • Thanks for the info, guys. I don't know if a "protect all" function would be needed here at Heroes Wiki. Even with our most persistent vandals, we've never had a problem quickly undoing their vandalism, and there are plenty of people who watch special:recentchanges that alert us to people who need to be blocked, or to changes that need to be reverted. Maybe I'm being naive, but I'm not sure of any vandalism that would require a lockdown of the entire site. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:37, 28 December 2008 (EST)
          • I have an option to set the entire site read-only, but I've only used it a couple times in the past for maintenance. I think using it to stop vandalism wouldn't be quite so effective. The worst instance we've had in the past was long ago when some spambots started hitting the site. We had to pay attention and block them as quickly as possible, but we never locked down the whole site. As soon as I added the captcha for user registrations that spam attack was eliminated. I think you've grabbed the wrong one. See my comment here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:43, 28 December 2008 (EST)

I was wondering

Is there a list or portal of synthetic abilities? If not it might be a good addition. since graphic novel abilities and show abilities are on separate portal and together on the list, it might be good to do the same with synthetic and natural. Just a thought but I don't think there are enough synthetic abilities to warrant a portal. But like I said it was just a thought. I found it lol under the most obvious place by clicking synthetic next to someones ability. :) --laughingdevilboy 18:38, 28 December 2008 (EST)

couple of speedy deletions...

If you'd be so kind as to perform the please, Image:Eden's first command.JPG and Suggestion (which redirected to persuasion) are no longer needed. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 19:44, 28 December 2008 (EST)

  • Thanks for the heads up. I'll leave suggestion as a redirect, though, since there are other fan sites that call her power "suggestion". -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:59, 28 December 2008 (EST)

How do I visited wiki?

Ha, I just can't browse the wiki anymore. I think one moves from read to contributor to patroller. Weird, huh?--Citizen 20:46, 28 December 2008 (EST)

  • Next stop: wiki owner. (Watch out, Admin!) :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:48, 28 December 2008 (EST)
    • What I mean is, it's not the same to browse the wiki when you're on the "behind-the-scenes" part of it.--Citizen 20:51, 28 December 2008 (EST)

Some more innappropriately named accounts made today

Just a heads up; the banhammer has some more friends to make. The names are pretty obvious. GabrielPetrelli 16:09, 29 December 2008 (EST)

Webisodes order

Last week, we used NBC's Heroes news to sort the webisodes. I think the order that they appear there should be the order that we list them. This week's webisodes aren't listed there yet, though.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:16, 29 December 2008 (EST)

  • It makes sense to string all the Hard Knox stories together and all the The Recruit stories together so that when somebody is reading Part One, the next one they read is Part Two and then Part Three. It's jarring to go out of order just because they are being released simultaneously. But in the end I don't really care how it goes. I can find the webisodes I'm looking for--I'm just trying to make it easier and more intuitive for people who are more casual readers. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:21, 29 December 2008 (EST)
    • Right, though I'm just suggesting we follow the order that NBC specifies, or else we should go back and also renumber a lot of the graphic novels since there are a bunch of those that were released out of order as well. We could add an extra item to the infoboxes, perhaps "nextpart" to link to the next part instead of just the next video so we have both links and maintain the consistency. Would that work?--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:48, 29 December 2008 (EST)
      • I like that "Next Part" idea! --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:05, 29 December 2008 (EST)
        • As I said on other pages, Hard Knox isn't considered Webisodes, it's just extra clips they couldn't put on the show. The Recruit should have priority in the Webisode box and we should always go with the most recent.--Riddler 23:18, 29 December 2008 (EST)
          • But if we are considering them webisodes ourselves, we should be consistent. If we don't want to consider them webisodes, we should move them to either the main or a new namespace.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:31, 29 December 2008 (EST)
            • I don't care how we order the webisodes. I did what makes sense to me, but if somebody wants to go back and change them, that's fine. As for what's on the main page, we should either put boxes for both The Recruit and Hard Knox, or just for The Recruit. (I prefer both.) We definitely shouldn't put just Hard Knox. I also don't think we need to have a box for Dual anymore--it's very big, takes up a lot of prime real estate, and clutters up an already very busy page. I would change the aotw to The Recruit (and fix the heading from "Latest Heroes Episodes" to "Latest Webisode") and use aotw-web to feature Hard Knox. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:41, 29 December 2008 (EST)

Couple of questions

Hey. I just had a couple of things I wanted to get your input on, whenever you get a free moment (no rush). One that you voiced your opinion on, but that I feel reather strongly about so was wondering if you could look at my arguments whenever you have the time (and if you still disagree, I need to go change a bunch of pages for consistency). The other was a technical question about how many pics we can upload and how much space can bve used, and a small copyright question/proposal about an A.T. page. I posted it on Admin's talk page a bit ago (to try and spread my questions around, so I wasn't constantly bothering just you  ;)), but I'm guessing he's either very busy or it got lost in the shuffle. Anyway, anytime you have a free few minutes in the next week or two, your input, as always, would be much appreciated. And a happy new year to you and your family.  :) --Stevehim 12:36, 30 December 2008 (EST)

E-Mail about Anna's ability

When you ask about Anna's ability, can you ask the writers if they should get credit for any of the iStory too and/or if they can help you to get the credits? I would think that should make them want to answer you more...--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:38, 30 December 2008 (EST)

    • By the way, EVP and Linderman Mendez ARE the same person. LM wasn't just using a signature with a banned user's name, he IS that banned user. See here: User_talk:Admin#Truce --GabrielPetrelli 17:28, 30 December 2008 (EST)
      • Yes, I'm well aware. But if he's going to sign as a banned user, he will be banned too. It's difficult to turn a blind eye when one flaunts their flagrant disregard for policies. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:32, 30 December 2008 (EST)

I Got A New Signature Today

Hi Ryan. Sorry for posing as Admin earlier but I got a new signature. Just wondering how you get it to come up when you click the signature button. Mine comes up with this (--Linderman Mendez 15:40, 30 December 2008 (EST)) but I want it to come up with this (30,30px Linderman Mendez (Talk) | (Contributions)). Is it possible? Hope you had a happy Xmas and will have a Happy New Year. Also wondering what you got for Christmas. I am very curious. And nosey. Anyway I got a PS3 and tons of other stuff. Happy holidays! 30,30px Linderman Mendez (Talk) | (Contributions) And by the way, I had to type that in.

  • I got a bunch of sweaters. I was a happy daddy...Very cool signature, LM. The yellow is a bit hard to read. To get your customized signature to automatically appear when you hit the signature button, you'll have to actually create a "sig" page and an "autosig" page, and then make a change to your preferences. Read Help:Signatures#Creating a signature template page for the details. If you still have a hard time with it, let me know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:51, 30 December 2008 (EST)

iStory Artist..Who??

Do we have anything anywhere that tells us who is drawing the artwork for the iStory stuff? Is it all from the same artist, or is each iStory chapter using different artists like the GNs do? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 12/31/2008 09:12 (EST)

  • I don't know who does the art. I've asked a few key people, but they either didn't know or have been (understandably) too busy to respond. The art sure looks like it's all from the same artist, though. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:21, 31 December 2008 (EST)
